    P.S. In my case, letters were assigned after disk cloning from SATA to NVME SSD was done via MiniTool Partition Wizard

      Went through the same exact procedure.. quick question: after cloning c-drive onto the new drive and changing reboot priorities and options to the new drive, is it safe to format the old drive that has the previous OS files on there..? since all those files are cloned onto the new drive..

    it worked, but every time i restart my PC it shows up again. how do i permanently get rid of it?

  • @stephenc1111
    @stephenc1111 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    It is worth adding to this, that this worked but the drive letter returned after a re-boot. To get rid of it permanently required these instructions+editing a key in the system registry. Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices (Delete the value for Dos device with the drive letter in it.) Backing up the registry first is a good idea!

    so if i "hide" my "E" drive, I can reset my PC and reinstall windows without my hidden "E" drive data being lost?

    • @ElectronicsComputers
      @ElectronicsComputers  ปีที่แล้ว

      If we're talking about E disk as a system partition that should normally be hidden but it's not and you put your own files into that disk then whether you hide it or not Windows will restore that disk you may loose all your data. If we're talking about E disk as a separate partition or another drive then your data will be fine in any case.

    • @epacrisimp
      @epacrisimp 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bit late to help you but may help others with the same problem. After following the instructions in this video. You then need to
      Open regedit:
      Start→Type regedit
      Find the right key/folder:
      Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices
      If the EFI partitions drive letter is still in the registry, delete the value:
      e.g. \DosDevices\X:
      Close RegEdit and reboot. ( from superuser.com) This worked for me.

    This is not "hiding a drive" what you are doing is removing the drive letter and that means most of windows and other programs can not use that drive anymore, unless you mount it to a folder.

    • @ElectronicsComputers
      @ElectronicsComputers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's right! System partitions don't have assigned letters and sometimes after conning drives those partitions get letters and my video shows how to fix it.

    Hi, I have 2 additional drives E and F (not partition but actual internal drives).
    Can you tell me why for no reason it starts to spin and run continuously for 20-30 minutes each day?
    I don't have daily scheduled tasks or virus scan. I had also disabled disk indexing. I had scanned for trojan and virus but didn't find any.
    Any recommendations on how to find the cause of this problem beside disconnecting the actual E and F drive?
    Could this be a polling session from operating system on a daily basis? If so, how come its not showing in task manager or process server during the incident?
    I'm hoping its not a virus sending out data from my E and F. Please advise, and thank you in advance..

    • @ElectronicsComputers
      @ElectronicsComputers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      try to go to start and type: Indexing Options and press the enter key. In appeared windows you'll see the list of apps that use indexing. Select one and click modify and see if that app uses that drive then simply uncheck it. And repeat the process for the whole list. Also go to your computer right click the drive you want to stay off and uncheck: "Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties".
      Also make sure that you don't run any diagnostic software that checks SMART, or even HDD temperature and other specs. Also make sure that the paging operation does not interfere with that drive. Even windows update can wake up that drive because it collects data about your hardware and checks for drivers updates.

    • @garyomglol
      @garyomglol 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd disabled paging and did all of your recommendations. Will windows update still have access to those drives to scan hardware/collect data? I might have to disable windows update too.
      Thanks again for the reply, it was super helpful.
