    Is this part a coolant temp sensor or cylinder head temp sensor? I changed the same part that you changed. The aftermarket called it a coolant temp sensor, i bought one and put it in and no difference. I went to the ford dealer and ask for a cylinder head temp sensor, they gave me a totally different looking part. A screw in sensor. Same car same year same engine same code. Dealer said there is a cylinder head temp sensor in the front left side of the head and there isn't.

    Great Video!! I purchased a 2013 Ford Fusion from an auction site with a prior salvage, got it home and it said it had no power steering, was told the power steering rack/gear box was bad, when I took it to the repair man he took it apart and found that the frame the gear box sits on was bad so he repaired that and put it back together than while still at the shop it threw the code engine over temperature so he replaced the sensor but he still can't get the code to clear, any suggestions?

    There are 3 coolant valves that are electrically controlled that can cause various overheating symptoms. That c valve is one of them. Always do a koeo and koer test after the repairs to confirm no other issues. Ford really overcomplicated the cooling system on this engine. You find out if you ever need to change the thermostat on one. Peace

    I have a 1.6L Escape that “overheated”. Code 1299 but replaced the thermostat, checked the temp, did a pressure test and everything was perfect. My engine doesn’t have a cylinder head temp sensor and after clearing the code at my local AutoZone, the code has no popped again nor has the engine had any trouble. Any chance an issue with a sensor sent bad into to the computer and threw a false code?

  • @0104blackpearl
    @0104blackpearl 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you sir!!! You just saved me soo much money!!! I did this and it worked. However it is still reading the code P1299 Cylinder Head Overtemp. Does that mean it's something else? I do have a leak that was too small to diagnose months back. Had to refill coolant every so often. Along with P0135 02 censor heater circuit, PO132 02 sensor circuit high, & P0014 B Camshaft position timing over Advanced or system performance ban. What do you recommend I do from here? I am now able to drive my car.. but I'm afraid I will have to buy the part again if I don't fix whatever is leaking that caused this & my car go into limp mode again. I orginally had it tested for a hole in the tubing but it was too small to find at the time.

    My family picked up a 2013 1.6T Fusion a few months ago(to replace a car that ended up with a cracked head due to sudden coolant loss....don't want to have that happen again) and I noticed the coolant tank was a tad low last night. Just got the overtemp condition an hour ago. I was happy to see the coolant level was still good, but puzzled by the situation. This was the first video I checked to diagnose this issue. I literally just got back inside five minutes ago, as I write this, from checking the coolant temperature sensor. Sure enough, there was obvious coolant leakage through the part to the electrical connection. I was relieved to see that and it gives me a great starting point before worrying about bigger things. From the looks of it, this is likely the issue in my case. Thank you very much for providing this helpful video.

    • @ravagingwolverine
      @ravagingwolverine 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just to follow up, I got the sensor later that day and changed it. I didn't have a scan tool handy, so I tried to clear the code with the battery-cable trick but that didn't work and the weather got bad so I had to quit for the night. Got a basic scan tool today to clear codes and all is good so far. I sat with the car idling over 30 minutes and then drove it around some more and there's no sign of the problem(no message, no check-engine light, engine not in protected mode, etc). Looks like that was it in this case, but it had to be done regardless after finding coolant in the electrical connector before looking deeper. Again, glad to find this video which was very helpful and easy to follow.

    Will coolant leak out from the sensor,I'm working on same car,couldn't locate no leaks,then watched your vid ,and sure enough the sensor was wet,but would that cause the vehicle to shut off once a week or so due to low coolant level?

    • @jduda1127
      @jduda1127 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the coolant level is not topped off, top it off and pressure test the system. Leave it for 2-5 hours. "Best to leave it pressured up over night. If pressure is lost and no leaks are found outside the engine its likely leaking into one or more cylinders. Coolant intrusion is a problem on these engines.

      I had to replace the coolant level sensor and not the coolant temperature sensor. It's an expensive device. Before you go this way, first ensure that there's water in the coolant level sensor and clear the error codes with a scanner. If it persists, replace the coolant temperature sensor and do the reset. Last resort will be to replace the coolant level sensor.

    Hello have a question my 2013 Ford fusion eco-boost 1.6 is throwing smoke when I start it from exhaust pipeAny suggestions

    • @fixersautomotive4514
      @fixersautomotive4514  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe a little bit of oil burning, you would have to remove the air intake from the turbo and inspect for engine oil. If there’s oil then check your PCV make sure that’s clean. Good luck.

    hi I have the same engine in my fusion I have a question about the hose coming down from the coolant storage conatiner it leaks from the coupler style to me it looks would you know what those are called

    • @fixersautomotive4514
      @fixersautomotive4514  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hugo Contreras it should be called a reservoir coolant hose. Sometimes you can just cut the black plastic rings on the coupler and replace them w/ regular hose clamps.

    • @fixersautomotive4514
      @fixersautomotive4514  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rachel Deann I never had to mess w/ the petcock, I just quickly swap the sensors out w/ very minimal coolant lost.

    Hi I just saw this my car is the same Ford fusion 2015 I'm having the same problem they are telling me u need a #2 coil and shutters is correct or are they bending me over because I am a girl can you please let me know

    • @fixersautomotive4514
      @fixersautomotive4514  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello. I can only speak for this car, your car might have other engine codes that are telling them you have a bad #2 coil. As you can see in the video it’s a quick visual check to see if there is coolant leaking from the sensor. The shop should be able to show you that. Good luck and thank you for watching my video.

    • @fixersautomotive4514
      @fixersautomotive4514  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leandro Merletti make sure the temp sensor connector is dry and clean. Spray some contact cleaner in the connector and make sure pins are not corrode.

    • @fixersautomotive4514
      @fixersautomotive4514  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Leandro Merletti another issue could be the coolant by-pass solenoid valve can also cause that problem. Good luck and let me know. Thx

    • @fixersautomotive4514
      @fixersautomotive4514  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oscar Palomin hello, you can take off the battery cables and touch the cable ends together for about 10mins. That will discharge all the remaining stored power in the ECU. Hopefully that helps. Thank you for watching and please subscribe.

      @@fixersautomotive4514 are you talking about the plus and minus cable connected to your car? You just unplug them from your battery and touch them together?

    • @fixersautomotive4514
      @fixersautomotive4514  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      RealSavageStudio yes. Remove the battery cables from the battery. You can touch the metal cable end together w/ out touching the battery post, Don’t let them TOUCH. This will discharge the stored power. Hope this helps.
