For around 10 dollars do yourself a favor and buy an angle grinder from harbor freight… every tool you can imagine for descaling, sanding, grinding, surfacing .. and ten time easier to use tan a drill with a wire brush attachment… you can enjoy doing restoration
Maybe a bit unrelated to this particular video, but a big thanks from us Floridians affected by hurricane Ian. Our family, 4 homes, are all without power, but thanks to James and his videos, we are all running on generator power at the moment. Thank you James! ❤
James, wanted to thank you. I was able to fix my father-in-law’s. generator with a hurricane bearing down because of your vids. I started watching your vids, not because I fix anything, but because I found them very relaxing. Apparently, after watching like fifty vids, it is equivalent to taking a small engine repair class. 😂Anyway, cleaned a plugged carb (jets and needle), fixed a plugged shutoff valve, cleaned out the dirty tank, and adjusted from no load 54Hz to 61Hz. Father-in-law was missed, fortunately. Thanks!!
From one Dad to another....The things we do for our kids ! With my two sons, it was ride on lawnmowers I kept running for them...I built trailers to haul yard waste etc....they loved them and learned to drive on them and.....handle backing up trailers to boot !!! I don't regret any of it. Cheers Dad ! 😉
10.1.22 Great video James. When my brother and I were younger we made 2 carts out of whatever we could fine. Square tube, round tube, conduit. Went to the cart shop and got axels, disc brakes and sprockets. Went to the motorcycle junk place and picked up 2 honda 125 4 stroke motors. Hookup up a twist throttle on the steering wheel. Clutch and brake foot pedals. Gas tank out of plastic quart or so stuff that we found. Tires and rims of different sizes. Battery and rectifier and on off switch. Made it all work and was so much fun driving them around on gravel roads even in the winter.
A tip for the future if you need to add a tube while on the machine, pull the outside bead out over the outside of the rim as if you where changing the tire. The tube will go in soooo much easier! Also use plenty of lube. I see a lot of fun for your son!
Another tip for you! Try using Rust Reformer/Converter,it’s a liquid you apply to rusted metal after wire brushing to remove any scale. The Reformer then converts any left rust to a paintable rust free surface! It works great on frames & basically any rusted surface without the need for sandblasting. Your kids will benifit immensely from the knowledge gained from you! Great job.
I love how meticulous you are with everything you touch. I can appreciate your patience and passion on these projects. I'll be building a kart for my grandson in the very near future. Grat job as always, James!
My go to secret tool dealing with inter tubes is baby powder. It helps you to slip the tube into the tire much, much easier as well as getting situated. Those chrome valve caps are like putting lipstick on a pig. I personally like pigs with lipstick.
Great Job James! Miss my go kart when I was a kid. My parents however do not. We RUINED their yard doing donuts and made a dirt race track. Good memories ha!
A little off topic but thanks to your Generator repair videos I was able to repair my generator Thursday after 21 hours of Ian. Loose brushes and dirty slip rings. We finally got power back yesterday. Truly a horrific storm unlike any hurricane I have experienced. Charley, Wilma, Irma, Michael…. This one was different. Nearly a day of constant grinding. From SW Florida, Thank you sir!
Glad you got the issue sorted out. Not fun to have a breakdown when you need it most. Cannot image. The worst I have seen was Sandy and that was enough.
Great work James! Those are great memories with your kids! It brings my childhood 3 speed scooter motor go cart childhood memories in Kansas. Now I live in the Silicon Valley area of California. I wanted to have my youngest son experience the fun of a go cart, but no where close by to ride it. So I picked up a used Power Wheels Coupe and modified it to go fast...lol I chucked the tiny 6volt battery and put a 12volt 19amp hour battery under the tiny hood, after hooking up a metal strap to support the newly hollowed out bottom of the hood compartment. I then chucked all electronics and hooked the existing 2 electric rear wheel motors in parallel. Afterward there was only I speed in forward and reverse, and that was a medium jogging pace speed. My son was young at the time so He was the only one that drove it, and I supervised him at that time. Not your ordinary snail paced power wheels coupe anymore, and could go around the park quick and easy on the sidewalk. He loved it! Good times...
Hahaha, A dingo i had one it must be atleast 33/34 years ago when i was 16/17 years old, I had so much fun on this back then. I love it seeing you fixing this up, My respects to you and your son... 👍
Reminds me of when i was young and i bought a 1978 honda moped for $20 bucks guy was going to throw it out. I worked on it for weeks. Finally one day i got it started,i hoped on and ran strait into the fence, with a smile on my face. I loved that bike, had it for many years. I miss it and wish i still had it. I got a honda rebel now, street bike way faster but i still miss my old moped
A grinder and paint makes ya the welder u ain't!!! This coming from a certified pipe welder, great work as always. Enjoyed the change of pace on the go kart project. Very cool indeed!!!
Very nice job reviving an oldie but a goodie! I particularly liked that you used primer before painting - makes for a better longer lasting paint job!!!
I'm glad you got it to go fast. Wonderful video. A little hard for me to watch and putting tubes in tires. I'm just an old tire and mechanic guy. But you succeeded that's what counts. Thank you sir
Popping one bead of the tire first and putting the tube inside and then putting the tire bead back on the rim again is the way to make that much easier. Talcum powder is used as a lubricant on the rubber just like powder on rubber gloves. Same thing is done on bicycle and motorcycle tires and other tubed tires.
Good job. Your young son got you to complete the job and be your test driver too. Top it off with a young clear eyed inspector for the paint job. You cant get better than that.
I had the very same go cart for my son when it would do 36 mph we ME driving it! That cart will really move with a 70-80 lb person driving it. Awesome job dad 👍 your child will remember this forever
g`day james a little dish soap and water go a long way in helping tire work and pulling the outer bead over the rim (move inner bead to the center of the rim) so the tire is 1/2 off. the tube goes in with no effort . but you are the guy on site doing the job and there might be a reason you did it the way you did enjoyed this series on the go kart and the screams of delight from your young bloke are what make all the work well worth it great video cheers
Hi James. Brilliant as usual. Search "BSCI SFI 45.1 Approved 5/8" - 7/8" Bar Diameter Roll Bar Padding" . At the least, will look extra cool. A most, might prevent some bruises. Your kids - in their later years - will smile and think of you as legend; no doubt...
Wonderful video and great job, James. What a nice break from generators, especially the joy from your son. He (and you) will never forget this one. Thanks for sharing a bit of your family life.
You're a cool dad. Very nice job with the cart. Turned into something fun. I noticed the other card had seat-belts. Something to consider. Thanks for sharing.
Really enjoy your videos. learned a lot and especially when you do something other than a generator. This series on the Kart was great, funny and your kids must love you! We are going to build one for my niece this winter and got a lot of good ideas from your videos. One aspect of all your videos that we really like is that you focus on the job and not yourself. Other TH-camrs could learn an important lesson from that fact.
Those welds look just fine for what they are. I’m at the same level you are. To me if they hold the metal together with good penetration, I take that as as win. Remember….”A grinder and paint will make you the welder you ain’t” 😂
I am only at the halfway point but had an idea about the stuck rear wheels. Losen each axle nut a 1/2 turn soak it down with PB Blaster and let the kids use it. Re -apply the PB every time you think of it, eventually the wheels "should" break free on their own. Love the content you make keep up the good work. JeffinMaine
The high point of the video was seeing you pass on your skills to your kids. Keep it up. I've never seen a tube installed into a tire that way. I've always taken one of the tire beads off of the rim first which provides A LOT more space to get the tube in. You have to be careful prying the bead back onto the rim with the tube inside but I'm guessing it's a better option. Nice paint prep and paint! Very cool sir!
Great job for only the second time you’ve welded! I always used to tell people “ I didn’t say I made good lookin’ welds, I said I was a good lookin welder “!
I must say my Father did many wonderful things for me, most of which I did not appreciate, at least at the time. But he had no mechanical aptitude, and I never got a super awesome go cart like you have created for your kids Jim. You do win Father of the Year in my book. I have been watching your channel all day because I am rebuilding a 3 HP Briggs that died from low oil and have learned much about muradic acid and crankshafts and aluminum transfer. I saw part 1 the other day , and now this. SUPER COOL! Be safe!
Keep them generator repair vids going good buddy, much appreciate your good hard work on these machines. You teach us so so much. Wayne Brill & Nina Evans (Ipswich, Suffolk, UK) MANY THANKS 👍👍👍👍👍👍😊😊😊😊
Look at it this way, the more experience they get driving the kart the better prepared they will be when the day comes that they climb into a real car and go out on the road. It certainly worked for me. Plus the Dad of the Year perks don't hurt either.
I'm really liking the growth on the channel go carts chain saws you do amazing working and always keep things entertaining thanks for filming so we can come along.
Gotta love it when you hear your dad say “I think we can make it faster”.
I think mom would say no
Oh yes!
Loved that laugh of joy your son made before saying, "It's soooo fast." Dad of the Year Part II. Nice work James.
For around 10 dollars do yourself a favor and buy an angle grinder from harbor freight… every tool you can imagine for descaling, sanding, grinding, surfacing .. and ten time easier to use tan a drill with a wire brush attachment… you can enjoy doing restoration
And please buy the driver some gloves.
Maybe a bit unrelated to this particular video, but a big thanks from us Floridians affected by hurricane Ian. Our family, 4 homes, are all without power, but thanks to James and his videos, we are all running on generator power at the moment. Thank you James! ❤
Peace brother from Ft. Myers!
Best of luck from Fort Lauderdale!
Hope your hanging in there From South Miami

Very nice
@@jcondon1 yes!
This is the best small engine channel on TH-cam.
The chrome valve caps were a nice finishing touch 😂
That's so cool the paint made all the difference !!! 😊😊😊
Red and black look amazing
Boy that smile when that thing was running right you hear me
I have mig welded professionally a few years ago and I think just for your second time welding you did a fantastic job!
Thanks. I have another challenge soon involving and exhaust system and thin metal. Hoping it works out.
Just turn your wire speed up a smidge. Your getting a ball at the end of your wire. Other than that it looks good!
This series made me smile of memories of a forgotten past, thank you.
1:19:30 - Success! What a blast those were to ride when we were kids.
Great job James saving another machine from the shredder
What a good dad you are James, the kids break it and you fix it.... That thing is better suited for a paved flat track
This has been the best series of videos you’ve ever done. You and the kids will always remember the carts.
Y’all be safe.
Dingo cart looks like brand new now almost as good As in the 80s
I can't think of a better way to waste 90 minutes on a Thursday morning. Always enjoy your videos!
DAD OF THE YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!🐐😂🤣👍🏻
brilliant your kids love it and dad as well i reckon!
From one Dad to another....The things we do for our kids ! the joy of him saying it so fast, i never will forget that. reminds me of my son, as he loves his go kart. but he wanted his fasted.
Trash + hard work + Skills = Treasure.

You sir are absolutely awesome!!! You definitely deserve father of the year.. Great job and video
Love the chrome valve caps!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅✅✅✅✅
Reminds me when I was younger we had Go-Karts mini bikes always something. Working on them had a lot of fun.

Great to see you doing some Fab work
Your children are going to have so much fun on it. My children and grandchildren love the karts and mini bikes I have.
Love the “Wow” from the kid when the first red paint hit the roll cage!
Funny, I never heard that until now...
Your welds look fine man. Thanks for posting.
Great rebuild. It started as an outline of a cart and came out really nice
Great work James! Those are great memories with your kids! It brings my childhood 3 speed scooter motor go cart childhood memories in Kansas. Now I live in the Silicon Valley area of California. James, you’ve been holding out on us. Your welding skills have improved significantly. LOL THEY TRULY HAVE.
Always love James In the am with my tea

Loved the ending scenes of this video. Big dad smiles over here. Nicely done James!
I did not get to see this video when it first came out. The things you do for your children are amazing I enjoyed watching it all. even your turn.
Reminds me of when i was young and i bought a 1978 honda moped for $20 bucks guy was going to throw it out. I worked on it for weeks. Hi James, nice job, the kids are going to be speed demons,
Jim your vidoes never disappoint. It was lovely to you interacting with your children on this one.
I think you would get your money's worth from a Harbor Freight sand blaster .. wire wheels can only do so much. Fantastic video series.
Nice work Dad! Thanks Bill!
Way to go dad. Had a buddy back in the day with a cart that had a Clinton E65 engine. Scary to drive that fast in a go cart. Have fun.
Now thats a video for young and old. Your sons fun meter was pegged out. These are the memory makers !! Great job.
I didn't think you was going to let the kid's have all the fun great job again James 👏 👍
A grinder and paint makes ya the welder u ain't!!! This coming from a certified pipe welder, great work as always. Enjoyed the change of pace on the go kart project. Very cool indeed!!!

I’m 49 with a Harley and new side by side and now I want one of these!

Man you could hear the excitement in your sons voice! It made me smile. Great Job!

Great resuscitation on all counts!

Enjoyed that thoroughly!
What a great finish of a rehab for the kiddos. Adore the official roll cage inspector!! Nice part 2, thank you James.

And a seat belt
Great job! Made me wish for a great dad like you
That matte black looks good 👍
Becoming quite the project. Lots of fun for little kids and big kids alike..
Wonderful video and great job, James. What a nice break from generators, especially the joy from your son. He (and you) will never forget this one. Thanks for sharing a bit of your family life.
Your a good Papa, great work James 😊
That laughter was GREAT!
You're a cool dad. Very nice job with the cart. Turned into something fun. I noticed the other card had seat-belts. Something to consider. Thanks for sharing.
Maybe a part 3 in the spring which would include seat belts and a new axel.
I think we need a James and Mustie1 drag race!
That would be epic!
Great stuff! Thank you. When drilling steel, a liitle cutting oil helps.
great job great memories with your boys love it

Coming along pretty well
Those welds look just fine for what they are. I’m at the same level you are. To me if they hold the metal together with good penetration, I take that as as win. Remember….”A grinder and paint will make you the welder you ain’t” 😂
Very cool! Seat belt & Gloves for safety.😎😎✌
I think that big kid had a good time as well. 🙂
Welds don't look bad at all great work @James Condon
I am only at the halfway point but had an idea about the stuck rear wheels. Losen each axle nut a 1/2 turn soak it down with PB Blaster and let the kids use it. Re -apply the PB every time you think of it, eventually the wheels "should" break free on their own. Love the content you make keep up the good work. JeffinMaine
James. that was quite a restoration, beautifully done..........but you did have a "little" help!
The high point of the video was seeing you pass on your skills to your kids. Keep it up. I've never seen a tube installed into a tire that way. The tire was not in good condition. Was afraid of destroying the bead. It would have been a lot easier for sure.
Great job for only the second time you’ve welded! I always used to tell people “ I didn’t say I made good lookin’ welds, I said I was a good lookin welder “!
