I find politics really brings me down a lot. Especially as every single announcement from the Tories is like a declaration of how much worse life will get for all of us. I'm in a long distance relationship and their latest announcement about upping the threshold for earnings for immigrants has just made the possibility of us being together so much more difficult. I just can't wait for them to go away, I know Labour aren't much better, but honestly anything has got to be better than this.

45:00 the band Weezer was accused of being an industry plant when they first came into the mainstream. People thought they were too talented, so OBVIOUSLY, they must be an industry plant. However, it’s been awhile since then and I can’t name any other men who were believed to be industry plants

I get a little down and demotivated after traveling, like having trouble getting back into the swing of regular life after vacation mode. Maybe your trip to the U.S. is affecting you more than you might think. Hope you feel more like yourself soon!

I have diagnosed adhd and I've been saying in therapy for years, as soon as the sun goes down my anxiety shows up. In February its Carnival here in brasil, and I was feeling so guilty for being at home at the same time I had no energy to go out, I started having panic attacks at night, it lasted for like..2 weeks, it was awful, I completely understand what you are saying, the guilt makes the anxiety so much worst. I'm doing so much better now, the meds really helps too, hope u can get this check out soon and finaly get some relief like I did ♥

when you go for the adhd assessment, please know that non-stimulant medication exists! (I've taken atomoxetine aka straterra for 2 years.) Stimulant meds are more profitable (for psychiatrists) because you have to visit more often since they are a controlled substance. They also have more shortages; something I never have to deal with non-stimulants. Wishing you the best!

the whole thing with people accusing tate of being an industry plant has bothered me sooo much. like me and my best friend have not been listening to her since 2017 when she was still writing songs in her bedroom only for people to say thatttt!!! Especially since she's had so many songs going viral on tiktok in the past couple years like... people know her...
I feel like everyone just likes to think the world revolves around them and if they personally don't know someone they HAVE to be an industry plant!1!1!
In reality she's been doing music on her channel for a decade and as someone who's had an eye on her for a long bit of time i can say she's been growing quite organically (and well deserved imo!!)
(also dear parents was MY SONGG when i was 13/14, like i gotta remember my dramatic renditions of it i did in the kitchen ahhh)

everything you said!!!! also i feel like the whole “industry plant” label is literally just an artist’s label doing the work they’re supposed to be doing? we’ve all heard absolute horror stories of artists not being allowed to release their music and not being given promotion or anything of the sort that is supposed to be the job of a record label and why artists sign the contracts- they have the money for the things that are able to push an artist’s career. when these mistreated artists become independent they’re championed, which gives me faith in humanity- but why do people call artists “industry plants” when the record label route is working for them? the music industry is still predatory and has faults, as well as having a lack of transparency when new artists do have industry backing but it still doesn’t make any sense to label anyone and everyone with that term!?!?

And on top of that a lot of us American and Canadian dancers knew her from the dance competition circuit. She was VERY big in the dance world before making music. That was how I was already subscribed to her channel when I was in middle school and clicked on her first song "One Day" in 2017.

For the agony aunt, I totally agree. Don’t tell sister you don’t like her boyfriend. I would also question like…..what about him the family doesn’t like? If it’s just bc he cheated I don’t think that’s a reason to not want him around, but if there are bad vibes for some other reason id keep the side eye 😅 lowkey she might be inviting him everywhere bc she wants her big sis to get to know him and like him, especially if she hasn’t done that with previous partners

  • @csr7080

I agree so much, Misfits is an amazing show, especially the first two seasons. Witty, sometimes actually keeps you on the edge of your seat, generally great actors...
Oh, and yeah depression sucks. It sounds incredibly trite, but focus on the things that make you happy(er) and keep social connections alive - neither is a magical cure but it certainly doesn't hurt.

Still working on your backlog but had to listen to the most recent! Two things: just finished your episode on misogyny and also thank you for the book rec. I picked it up today and am already very interested. Such a good discussion and I felt all the emotions with you. Second, I'm 29 and honestly find Tate's music pretty good - had no idea ppl were hating! The songs I've liked the most are "feel like shit" and "she's all i wanna be." She just struck me as a talented person who got lucky off of YT. Lol just shows how out of the loop I am. 😅
anyway, lovely convo as always Jordan, love this podcast so much! ❤

i feel you about the bored thing, i think its having too much choice of what to watch etc that if you have free time and there isn't something you really like to watch, like one of your videos, then you are just trying to find something and it feels like 2 hours later you havent watched anything.

If you have intense mood swings like that please be careful of taking stimulants, make sure you discuss your mood with your psych, it sounds like you might need a mood stabiliser before you start them
I have suspected bipolar and taking adhd stimulants made me manic then rapidly cycle between moods (being really happy in the morning then later crying describes this perfectly) and end with a really bad depressive episode. Stress definitely doesn't help but usually that's what triggers it
