I’m still just a small fry but I’m OK with that. 🙂 I like this year what I’m doing when I go out metal detecting and it’s been a great experience so far. You wouldn’t believe the amount of technology as well as software and gadgets that you have learned about outside of metal detecting that I’ve had to learn in order to do this.
I've gotta say... I came across your channel and, being a novice just starting, I love that you give your settings before the hunt. This is huge for those of us that are still trying to learn. I can also appreciate your efforts in the way that you set up and film yourself driving in as if there was a camera there filming your arrival. This probably seems trivial, but it adds a polished look to your videos. Keep doing this. You're going to have an explosion of subs, eventually, that you'll be scratching your head about. This will be because folks will come to your channel and stay awhile watching several videos. They'll put your channel out there with family, friends, and followers, and BOOM! You'll have a great following. And you'll have earned every single one of them. I'm glad to be a part of this early in your journey. Thanks so much for the high quality content you are making and helping others learn how to do this. Your efforts are greatly appreciated!

You put out Excellent quality videos, you explain so much of your process and you try to help us understand your process 👍 I think my favorite find of this hunt would have to be the child sitting upon the lioness back 🤗 The pin that you pulled right after though, the colorful porcelain still being mostly intact, is really nice too. You ended your video with the most interesting find I've seen in a video from anyone. Beautiful yet what is its purpose? It has tines 🤔 You indeed had a very good days hunt out there ☺

I believe from what folks have stated is that the last "clip" is a garter clip or one that was used for items other than pants or socks. Either way... still very cool.

Are used to take her out when I had two V3i’s.. The machines were heavy and very complex to use, since that exposure she has not been out. My wife and home hunt, fish, camp and do many things on the full spectrum up to plays and orchestras... although I believe detecting is a solo act for me. Most of the time when I go detecting it’s mud all the way up to my belt and very inclement weather. Maybe on one of our trips to the beach I might I test out the water of getting her to detect then. The last clip is a suspender clip, mid to late 1800’s would be my best estimation. We find a lot of those at Victorian sites. Well done video sir, keep’m comin’!!!!!!!!!
I know that people Scoff at finding stuff like spoons but It shows activity from people that is more personal than just farming. Every little thing we find lets us know we are in the right spot as well as helps date the site.

Your special fancy find is one half of a Cloak clasp! I dug one last summer on my Homesite of Tragedy video. The rings are for sewing on to the cloak. Still watching. Awesome relics!

yes each state has differences on available information for lidar. I utilize it in the work that I do but not so much for Ohio metal detecting. The ground is pretty flat to see many depressions as well as highly modified over the years in my area. Global mapper is a program that I use To import meta-data and then export it to autodesk to overlay geopositioned to modern aerials. It’s very useful in the mountains looking for old roads and cellar holes
Another awesome video Squirrel. Those Indian TID's knocked me off my chair. Googled the coins and found this info from JM Bullion website. Aha!!....copper nickel alloy. Congrats !!!!!! "As part of Civil War-era coins, the 1863 Indian Head Penny is especially sought after by collectors. These coins are sought after further because they are made with a special copper-nickel alloy that was only used during the Civil War. This special alloy makes Civil War-era Indian Heads heavier than other editions."
Thank you for the information Kurt. I thought the IDs were a little odd to but you never know because there could’ve been something laying around them. I don’t see you whenever my machine ground balances low like, in the teens, it also drops the ID’s of my targets. Vice versa for a higher ground balance
Yes we have not had that much snow this year thankfully. The ground has been in and out of being frozen quite often. I am hoping that things break and I don’t have to plan around frozen ground from here on out.
Sites like that are awesome cause no matter what you dig it’s probably gonna be something old. You got some awesome stuff out of there for the lack of high tones. 👍🏻 👍🏻
I can't speak for SNS, but I hunt similar sites and IHs have become a bit banal for me. Yeah, ones of those dates are still special, but the artifacts mean a lot more to me, and I'll bet Kenny would say the same.
I enjoy finding about anything on a site to tell you the truth. I like to find coins to help me date when people were still living there as well as when they began living there. All the little doodads and buttons if they have stuff on them help me identify little tidbits of information about the family which is fun to think about. It was a bummer that the one coin I could not get a date off of but I’m hoping that on a return trip I can find others that will have clean dates.
that place looks like there could be a lot of masked targets hiding within the iron. keep digging that spot don't give up on it. The equinox is just the machine to sniff out what others couldn't. H.H
Nice relics. I do so wish I could find earlier county maps of my area, a fire in one of the old court houses destroyed the early ones and I've never been able to find a county map with homesteads earlier than 1857. The farm I own had at least 2 other homes on it at one point. One I have been able to find and have pulled out some cool civil war stuff, relics, and coins. The other one is still a mystery, no well or foundation and only a mention of it in family burial records as the resting place of some family members before they set aside ground for a family cemetery.
Try searching in the US library of Congress. Even if not posted online they may have some in their archives. If something was produced in the 1800s an additional copy most likely was given to a document preserver which would have later sent it to the library of Congress hopefully
@@squarenailsquirrel9638 I have done that. The earliest map with homesteads I have come across so far is 1857. I have found earlier maps but no homesteads or structures were on them. Some day I will get lucky and stumble across one so till then I keep will looking.
Paul I actually have a video already that covers every technique that I use to find a place to metal detect as well as everything else associated with gaining permission. Look back through my videos and find the one about finding a place to metal detect, have a piece of paper ready so you can take notes because there’s a lot of information. I promise you one of the techniques on there will help you score a great place to metal detect
I heard on a video the other day that metal detecting in Japan is not something that is very popular but the items that you can find can be extremely old as well as valuable
On the coin that I could not see the date on in the field I could also not retrieve it when at home. Anytime that I’ve put those tags by the coins at the end of the video they will have the date on it, if I don’t know a number I will put a question mark. The corrosion level over those two digits is just too deep.
I have not completed it to the point where I would like it to be although I started a website today in preparation for hand producing a few here and there. Squarenailsquirrel.com watch for them there.
Another great video. Cool knife, the ones I find never have a name on them. Once in a while they may have a shield or something but never a name. Could the round lead disk be the inside of a bridle rosette?
Most of my hunts are between four and five hours. Are used to spend 8 to 10 hours like I did yesterday but after that 4 to 5 hour mark there are factors that affect your hunt. I try to tell people that metal detecting is a skill and physical hobby but above those... it’s a mental game. Not only the part of asking for permission and building up the courage to ask but it also deals with fatigue mentally during the hunt. You are less likely to dig if he signals towards the end of your hunt as well as if you haven’t found anything good after a few hours you start to break down.So these days I try to limit myself on how many hours I spend on a site because there is a point of diminishing returns.

The big bag is actually called a squirrel pouch, this is the third version of it where I have a fourth version in the mix. I have both a design and utility patent that are being worked on although they have became very expensive and currently on hold. Eventually when I start producing them they will become available but currently I just set up a new website today which will house the few that I have time to sew together and be available for sale. I have a Email notify button on the bottom of the website that will let people know when they are available. It will be first come first serve type deal because these take about 8 hours to complete. I'm sorry, have you tried a 15-inch coil in places like that? I believe it's Greg from finding America uses one and it really gets deep on those tiny targets.
So did you take a trenching shovel and cut it off and where did you get that pouch I want one . Good digs man get them to burn off that briar patch probably some good stuff in there 👍🏻
The digging shovel I have a video where I constructed as well as where I got it and all the information that you will need. I think it’s It’s called make a metal detecting shovel. The most tricky part is getting the rubber handle off as well as back on. The dig bag that I use is called the squirrel pouch and it something that I am working on a design patent for. This is the third version of it where there is a fourth but it is only halfway built. There is a brown one out there floating around in videos that I’m sure that you have seen 🙂

that place looks like there could be a lot of masked targets hiding within the iron. keep digging that spot don't give up on it. The equinox is just the machine to sniff out what others couldn't. H.H

Nice relics. I do so wish I could find earlier county maps of my area, a fire in one of the old court houses destroyed the early ones and I've never been able to find a county map with homesteads earlier than 1857. The farm I own had at least 2 other homes on it at one point. One I have been able to find and have pulled out some cool civil war stuff, relics, and coins. The other one is still a mystery, no well or foundation and only a mention of it in family burial records as the resting place of some family members before they set aside ground for a family cemetery.
Try searching in the US library of Congress. Even if not posted online they may have some in their archives. If something was produced in the 1800s an additional copy most likely was given to a document preserver which would have later sent it to the library of Congress hopefully
@@squarenailsquirrel9638 I have done that. The earliest map with homesteads I have come across so far is 1857. I have found earlier maps but no homesteads or structures were on them. Some day I will get lucky and stumble across one so till then I keep will looking.

Paul I actually have a video already that covers every technique that I use to find a place to metal detect as well as everything else associated with gaining permission. Look back through my videos and find the one about finding a place to metal detect, have a piece of paper ready so you can take notes because there’s a lot of information. I promise you one of the techniques on there will help you score a great place to metal detect

I heard on a video the other day that metal detecting in Japan is not something that is very popular but the items that you can find can be extremely old as well as valuable

On the coin that I could not see the date on in the field I could also not retrieve it when at home. Anytime that I’ve put those tags by the coins at the end of the video they will have the date on it, if I don’t know a number I will put a question mark. The corrosion level over those two digits is just too deep.

Another great video. Cool knife, the ones I find never have a name on them. Once in a while they may have a shield or something but never a name. Could the round lead disk be the inside of a bridle rosette?
I’m not sure on that disk, I think I have found something similar in the past although I have not looked for it yet in my pile of stuff to compare.
I like the clasp and buckle. It would be interesting to know how long your hunts are.
Most of my hunts are between four and five hours. Are used to spend 8 to 10 hours like I did yesterday but after that 4 to 5 hour mark there are factors that affect your hunt. I try to tell people that metal detecting is a skill and physical hobby but above those... it’s a mental game. Not only the part of asking for permission and building up the courage to ask but it also deals with fatigue mentally during the hunt. You are less likely to dig if he signals towards the end of your hunt as well as if you haven’t found anything good after a few hours you start to break down.So these days I try to limit myself on how many hours I spend on a site because there is a point of diminishing returns.

I actually don’t get on Facebook very often unless it is an overflow post from Instagram which typically is from land surveying. I do get to return to this site as well as if I can find out where the other site is I can hunt that as well

The big bag is actually called a squirrel pouch, this is the third version of it where I have a fourth version in the mix. I have both a design and utility patent that are being worked on although they have became very expensive and currently on hold. Eventually when I start producing them they will become available but currently I just set up a new website today which will house the few that I have time to sew together and be available for sale. I have a Email notify button on the bottom of the website that will let people know when they are available. It will be first come first serve type deal because these take about 8 hours to complete. I'm sorry, have you tried a 15-inch coil in places like that? I believe it's Greg from finding America uses one and it really gets deep on those tiny targets.
I am the 6 inch coil and the factory coil but not the 15. I am hoping someday to acquire it

So did you take a trenching shovel and cut it off and where did you get that pouch I want one . Good digs man get them to burn off that briar patch probably some good stuff in there 👍🏻
The digging shovel I have a video where I constructed as well as where I got it and all the information that you will need. I think it’s It’s called make a metal detecting shovel. The most tricky part is getting the rubber handle off as well as back on. The dig bag that I use is called the squirrel pouch and it something that I am working on a design patent for. This is the third version of it where there is a fourth but it is only halfway built. There is a brown one out there floating around in videos that I’m sure that you have seen 🙂
