    The eagle pin is a 1929-1934 Girlscout Pin. I just found 5 of them at an old GS house. Count the arrows, if it’s 7 arrows it’s probably a type 3B GS pin

      Thank you. I don’t do sponsors and I don’t monetize. The music I use I don’t have a full license for so they have the right to add a small advertisement during the beginning. I’m cool with that since the license is 50.00 per video beyond what I have.

      Your welcome and glad you enjoyed it. Lol... it’s a good thing you are digging deeper... but I too have noticed I am digging a lot more as well as deeper which adds to fatigue. I’m ok with it though. 🙂 good luck on and upcoming hunts. 👍🏻

    Digging in NYC I have learned (the hard way) about target masking. Removing the low tones can sometimes get you to the high tones. Same rule applies with bottle caps and pull tabs!

    • @squarenailsquirrel9638
      @squarenailsquirrel9638  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I try to dig about anything that responds well and is in the artifact later that’s producing older finds (depth). I most folks on here believe I’m targeting coins but I’m actually not a coin collector... I just like finding interesting items. Thanks for checking the video out.

      Your welcome Steven... glad it’s helping with learning the machine. I tend to do the same thing once I have found what is working for me... just make sure to try some stuff besides what I’m doing due to your soil types possibly being very different than mine. It really makes a difference what region you are in and the makeup of your soils.

    Great video!!! The GS pin is a Girl Scout pin ! Thanks for the ground balance demo. .......... if Whites would use a much faster processor that wouldn’t let the audio become choppy and clipped when recovery was sped up....... it could be a great detector....... but then again you would have to contend with the weight. I had a Whites for 2 years.... HH Tony

    Rooting for some silver for ya, Kenny, but nice elderly group of wheats sure didn't hurt. The USN button took the prize for me. Hard to counter your logic regarding the previous hunters going for the silver. I believe I'd do the same. Thanks for the completion of your two-part mini series. You mention your digger brand but I didn't make out what you said. Very sharp = very kind to the grass.

    Very nice , glad to see you use a ground cloth, I always show people the benefits of using one.
    Just a suggestion, you might try cutting your plugs with a straighter walls. You will ease the risk of tagging a coin especially on the deeper holes. Plus I have seen conical plugs in dryer conditions get sucked out of the ground with commercial mowers.
    Grass has a better chance for recovery in the dryer season.
    Did you say you are using old atlases from your area for research?

    • @squarenailsquirrel9638

      Thank you for the suggestions and i’ll Take them into considerations. I typically do the circular plugs for speed. Great video, hunt and a little comparison Squirrel! Nice handful of Wheaties - check the dates, you never know. Cool Girl Scout pin - I've only seen and dug boy scout items. Nox is very unique in it's ability to select good targets mixed in with bad... I've had similar experiences...last weekend dug a bunch of glad dimes - most had rusted iron, bolts or other junk mixed in. I've never listened when they say a site has been hunted. Found plenty with dfx, v3i and now Nox. I guess hunted out means cherry picked for silver 😉 Take care and be safe!

I guess... anything interesting. But... I do know that I can check my key dates and get more involved in that part of my hunt now. 🙂🙂 thank you very much for the Red Book.... I’ve actually been through it many times since it arrived. There is endless possibilities for such awesome finds out there. Thank you for checking the video out and especially for sending me a gift. Take care.

    I’d suggest running park one in 5 tones. It really helps lock you into the coin signals, especially if you set the tone breaks up right. If you’re a coin hunter that’s the way to go with the Nox, but if you’re a relic hunter, then digging it all regardless is the best 😁

      That’s great you two are getting into the hobby.. it’s a good time and your always learn something new. The dig bag is something I have been working on for years getting perfected. Eventually I will make these in “runs” of probably 10. They take 8 hours to make and are labor intensive. I need to make changes to the hand digging tool sheath to strengthen and then test it for a bit before releasing. I use an industrial sewing machine and a saddle stitcher to make these... fairly robust.

      It’s been like that with my hunts for the past... guessing... 10 years for my hunts. I just don’t find silver like I used to.... even on my very old farm field sites I don’t find much silver. The only silver I found this winter was a silver trime... very happy with it but would like to hit some others too. Honestly not complaining and I never expect to find silver so when I actually do... it’s aleays exciting.

      I always try my best to hit silver but it’s ok if I don’t... I really enjoy just finding stuff which isn’t always coins. I might be selling the V3i so this most likely will be the last one. I’ll be doing som Sport comparisons eventually.

    Nice camera work! Think the railroad is called New York Central on that one find. Heard about you via Liz at Digging Canuck. 👍😎🦈🦈

      Thank you. 🙂 I wasn’t sure in the field about the railroad name but I believe you are spot on with the ID. Tats great you were pointed my way from her... I wear her channels decal on all the machines I run to help support. I try to join in on Thursdays when I can or for an occasional coin roll hunt when I’m at work... just don’t tell anyone. Lol.

    Enjoying your channel. The first find is definitely a girl scout pin. I used to have one.
    I like the ground cloth. Is it just a thick towel or is that a real thing?

    • @squarenailsquirrel9638
      @squarenailsquirrel9638  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. 🙂. Can’t beat a first hand report on an ID... thank you for commenting on it. The ground cloth is left over material from a dig bag I made for the guy who inspired me to make detecting videos... one reason is because it’s cut from the same cloth and two... it’s 1000 Cordura and stands up to anything. Just a big heavy cloth mainly.

    There will probably be some disagreement, but in my opinion, coins don't really "sink" in soil. They get covered up with years of decomposing organic matter such as mowed grass.

    • @MrMcGoo-rm3yu
      @MrMcGoo-rm3yu 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've heard that it takes 500 -1000 years to form 1" of soil in a forest. I believe the objects sink.

    • @ACobra289
      @ACobra289 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MrMcGoo-rm3yu Do you have any old curb strips in your town? We have some old granite strips and you can tell they haven't been disturbed because the soil level is 3 or 4 inches higher than the strip/sidewalk. They weren't like that when new. That's many years of organic buildup.

      Depends on the type of ground

    • @squarenailsquirrel9638
      @squarenailsquirrel9638  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I see that scenario on my wooded hunts where the decaying leaf layer is super thick and then the ultra organic layer is the same. Once you get into the topsoil layer that looks like regular topsoil your already 8” deep. Clay layer so well behind that. I’m not sure about the organic breakdown of soil layers and the addition of new soil due to sedimentation. Just historically over the years I have experienced that the heavier coins drop to the clay layer and lighter stuff can be anywhere above that. It’s just my observation And my soil types. Yours could be very different where you are, especially if you have a lot of sand in your soil.

    Hey man another great video and nice hunt with cool finds! Although I'm pretty sure that's a civil war navy button since the eagle's head is turned to the left!(viewer's right) After the war the navy decided all eagle buttons should have the eagle's head facing right (viewer's left) because facing left is considered dishonorable. Congratulations great civil war find! HH

      After further research now I'm not sure, it might be early 1900s... I know they used iron backs on some buttons during the civil war, I have a definite Confederate naval civil war button I found with the same iron back as urs

    Ha! In the US they punched holes in coins and strung them on string because they never had pockets before the 1860’s.

    The design of US Navy Officer’s buttons prior to WWII, in use from 1852 until 1941, was an eagle facing left standing on a horizontal anchor. On May 14, 1941 the Navy ordered that the head of the eagle face its right side. “The shift of the eagle's aspect to right-facing from left-facing is logical from the perspective of heraldic tradition, since the right side (dexter) is the honor side of the shield and the left side (sinester) indicates dishonor or illegitimacy.” www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/173001-us-military-uniform-buttons-interesting-facts/

  • @luisvillarreal5262
    @luisvillarreal5262 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I wouldn't cherry pick at a site that is yielding mostly wheats. You'd have a better chance at digging up a 1909 s VDB wheat cent a 1943 copper wheat cent or any variety key date coin left behind. Then you can thank those cherry pickers on the way to the bank. That's the way I always think about that. Positive thoughts can lead to positive results, just need a little patience and have fun doing it. By the way, you will find silver when you least expect it. Nice little hunt and comparison video Kenny. H.H. _/
