Awesome list, played/loved almost any of these gems. What about Friday? Have you ever played it or heard about it? It's a bit dated but a perfect solitairish/deck-building experience, with a great learning curve and progression. Plus, it's pretty small, cheap, portable and easy to setup! Also Cascadia is fantastic solo, with increasingly difficult multiple scenarios providing even a campaign feeling.

Playing board game solo is kinda crazy idea for me xD Let me explain it, in my native language we don't call them "board games", we call them "social games" or "društvene igre" in my native language, so playing "social" game alone is kinda oxymoron :D Great video as always guys!

    • @iansutton7416
      @iansutton7416 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Yes, board gaming for me is very much a social experience, and on the occasions I've played solo, it feels inconsequential - why does it matter what I do? The only solo gaming scenario I'm ok with, is playing a game 'multi-handed solo', to learn the rules / gameplay so that I can teach it to others. i.e. there's a point / benefit to doing it.

Finding about solo boardgaming is such a big relief for me. Looking for people to play game with is hard, especially when you don't live near to a boardgame store/cafe/community. Not to mention if your preference on games differs from others. You want to play a game but others don't because they find it boring or too complicated. That's a bummer for me.

To me Legacy of Yu is just a better version of Hadrian's Wall which became too samey after the fourth play or so... Legacy of Yu is fantastically designed, even though it's a campaign style - you can come back to it months in between plays, simply read what cards are in the "history" area of the organiser to come back to speed and just keep on playing. For solo euro feeling resource conversion and hand management style games there is no better, quick to learn, quick to set up, quick too play but with complex choices and scaleable difficulty

  • @RamyASMR

    For me it‘s (in order)
    1. Eiyo
    2. Fuse
    3. Cartographers
    4. Capital Lux 2: Generations
    5. Bullet❤
    6. Coffee Roaster
Games I really want to play but don‘t have yet:
    Final Girl

I generally shy away from solo games, as I prefer interaction with other players, but one I can recommend (which can also be played co-op) is DVG's "Warfighter". There is also a WWII variant (which I don't like as much) and a "Shadow War" version (night time, stealth missions, which arguably is the best version). The rule book is very convoluted, and it is difficult to win even on the easiest mode, but it's a good simulation of special forces, squad level missions in a card game.
While the game's base set has American forces, there are a multitude of expansions where you can play as British, Russian, Israeli and several other nationalities. There are also opponent expansions (drug cartel, terrorists, enemy military, etc.)

Recent solo games (or solo-able) at my table include: HexPlore It - Domain of Mirza Noctis, Undaunted w/Reinforcements solo rules, Cthulhu Death May Die: Season 1, Paupers' Ladder w/Moon Towers, Pax Pamir 2nd Ed. vs. Wakhan, and John Company 2nd Ed. vs. The Crown. Upcoming (as soon as it arrives in the mail) is GMT's new Skies Above Britain.

@@BoardGameHangover For ease of getting set up & just having silly fun: C:DmD or Paupers' are great. Of the heavier / longer games, Pax Pamir is the one I know best and so is quicker to get into. John Co. is one I'm still getting to know, but that solo mode is very clever.

FWIW I very much prefer This War of Mine played in the company of others. For such an emotional experience, it always feels better / more meaningful to me played in their company. I do however recognise that 'mechanically' it's more a solo game than a multiplayer game - all the extra players add are more voices / greater engagement.
I'm lucky that at least 3 other gamers in our gaming group also enjoy the game, so we will get it to the table soon(ish). The big catch at the moment is the war in Ukraine, as the theme hits so close to what's happening there. Whilst the game gives an important voice to civilians caught up in war, it just feels a bit too uncomfortable at the moment.😥

    Have you tried Final girl?

Given that "Left Janis" really enjoys Eldritch Horror, I think there's a good chance he'd enjoy Final Girl as well. I've had a lot of fun with it so far.

@@BoardGameHangover right now marvel champions is my jam. I have bought a few of the hero expansion’s as well to change up the play. Currently learning the Arkham horror card game but for some reason the rules seem overwhelming to me.

I classify solos between 2 main categories:
    1. Travel (Quick and Very Replayable Fillers)
    2. Sit-at-Home (No Time Constraints)
Your list is for the Sit-at-Home. I hope you do another list for Travel Solos.
