If you can't find the block of ice cream clean out the cake pan used and scoop and smooth out the icecream and freeze it to it's hard and place it on top!

I can't find blocks of good ice cream either in the stores now( just the cheap fake ice cream) so good to know you can just scoop it out of a carton. I made this for my husbands birthday and he loved it! It was a little messy to frost but worth it. I just used reddi whip to put little flowers on top and worked out well.

I made this but turned it into an 'oreo icecream cake' by adding oreo cookie crumbs to the vanilla 'frosting'. It was to die for!

Hi, SophieG - You can still make this ice cream cake without "blocks" of ice cream. Buy ice cream in cartons, let it soften a little, and then scoop it out and spoon it over the cake layer to an even height. Once it's covered with frosting and frozen it won't matter what the original form was. Enjoy!

this was very interesting but what if we do a round cake and cut it in half and in the middle make a medium round cut and place the ice cream there and in the other half the same and to stick the halfs together we use the buttercream frosting and pop it in the frezier till the ice cream is frozen? I think this would be a better idea

Put the plastic container in some warm water for a few seconds, then turn it out on a plate or something and continue as shown in the video.

You can make an oil based cake . So instead of using butter for the batter , you could use vegetable oil
