Saw this on TOTP when it first came out and loved it then but didn't hear it again until 2 years ago. Still love it and it deserved more sales. Great pity the band broke up. Lots of reasons but with clever management they could have been around much longer. Wendy was like a breath of fresh air when she appeared on the scene
i think i was 11/12 when i first bought my own tape, first choice i had in music..still love it now. used to listen to this on repeat esp on solo trips to my family in canada during school hols.. nearly fell off the sofa when my uncle john asked to listen in too, amazingly he loved it!!
Agreed. Even the vibes Wendy was giving off. During that time, many female singers was giving out either the sexy or aggressively side at once even Madonna . Wendy delivered it both all the time while the singers came 10 - 15 years after her done the same. So you're right, they're really were ahead of their time.
I never met her but still in love, but back in the day I heard she was seeing Mick Jones of the Clash, I know she was so smart read her interviews, wish her all the best, well back to the pub for me
I was so innocent then xx Thankyou for being thete for me xx Young me xx Hopeful , groovin , natural , singing , me x I adored you xx Im 49 and jaded , and pretty much bedridden , a man broke my back x But I can come back to this , remember you , and remember me xx
There's Wendy James, renowned for her sexiness back in the day, dancing around with a Cross and a heart around her neck. In fact, many photos of Wendy show he with various different crosses around her neck... Here she's singing a song with a title first developed in 1224 by St Francis as he was being nursed by St Clare. In the Zefirelli movie "Brother Son, Sister Moon" that was Graham Faulkner (British actor) as Francis and Judy Bowker (British actress) as Clare. A beautiful movie from 1972, songs from "Donovan". Rather surprising, from a British point of view - the words from Francis are believed to be the first-ever text of known authorship in the Italian langauge! 1224 looks quite recent for that kind of record... Francis said: "Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars, in heaven you formed them clear and precious and beautiful" Of course, the Moon was treated as a goddess and in various other ways, but "Sister Moon" is a Franciscan concept. Also associated with sleepwalking, and tides, and madness. While the first verse here is relatively convention, the second jumps right in, with very Franciscan-sounding ideas: "every new moment that's a brand new start when you got the nature down deep in your heart. And as the mountains move on the winds of change, there's no fear of the end, when you've got the world running in your veins". The idea of faith moving mountains is directly from Jesus, and no fear of the end is also a Christian sentiment. While the "wind(s) of change" have modern attribution, this is most ascribable to the Holy Spirit, who blows where He will (as Jesus put it - John Chapter 3) and has been doing so since He first hovered over the waters at Creation. Jesus referred to that in the context of being Born Again. The Moon is then encouraged to "groove on", which means to continue making music in a way that was meant to be, with true feeling. Of course it can connect with the needle of the record player being in the groove of the record, in such a way that all with the music is going forward / progressing as it should. The Moon controlling the stars and heavens is not astronomically correct in any way, but is Biblically correct and in line with what St Francis said. The idea of the Moon controlling our hearts is interesting, and its having power and love looks heretical or astrological (kinda the same thing), except that Francis also saw them as blessed through the Creator. The Singer wants her heart to be taken to the stars, and we know that the moon and stars will offer signs in the End Times, Luke writes that. While Joel speaks of a blood Moon at the end. Thuogh here we have twice the colour blue. A blue moon is referred to (as a rare event) when a given calendar month has two full moons.
To appreciate it, you need to be listening to, there is God and there is the peaky blinders Rkid plus the stone fukin roses and oasis happy Mondays Rkid lucky boro fc liveforever 🎉
I remember back in 88 being caught in a haze over this song the band and this beautiful stunning lady in this video and still don't see anyone now in 2019 that comes close. You are still amazing Wendy, look forward to seeing you in October. Luv. WENDY FOREVER
Those where the day's. You could almost understand women. Eyebrows convey so much more emotion. Sadly i was looking further down so i have no opinions on the cultural impact of this song. Best four minutes ever.
I like Transvision Vamp but I thought it was naff how they never mentioned being influenced by Sigue SIgue Sputnik, even once. We r Influenced by both bands. No Serial Killer.
Not only in England, but also throughout Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. In the USA I don't know, although they have done live shows that are on YT. Wendy was so famous at that time that five bands have named one of their songs 'Wendy James'. They are Delta bats, Paranoiacs, Band a part, Rexico and Go kart Mozart. Better than Madonna or Kylie!
They were an original and intriguing band, not too pop, not too rock, with a lovely and good-looking singer always playing on the limit of sensual and sexy. Too bad the scene was ruled by label interested only in profits and no care for music and image.

Still rocking 2022
She has a lovely voice, when she sing's, quiet & husky.. Bad Valentine is another.... PS. I love every song on VELVATINE
Velveteen
She could really sing when she wanted to.Most of her singing just sounded like she was talking but I think that was her style rather than her ability.
this song is missing from the GTA Vice City soundtrack. Great "driving" song

Forgot how beautiful Wendy was ... Also forgot how annoying drummer/keyboard player Tex Axile was
Now that you mention it, I never noticed anyone but Wendy J.
@@amhistoryx8337 Doubt if she noticed you.
is that the guy whose crotch we have to look at throughout the otherwise sexy video?
Seriously I fucked that up, sorry Wendy
Did this band only chart in England? I do not remember ever even hearing of them and I grew up in the 80's.
americans are not exposed to good music

this song greatly influenced my decision to come out of the closet. she was a true inspiration.
all their videos are of crummy songs. Their best is the last album, none of the songs have videos.
Blondies used tampon! 😂
You sound like a right knob.

Love this song!
