Lyrics:
Step by step
Heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down
Like toy soldiers
It wasn't my intention to mislead you
It never should have been this way
What can I say?
It's true, I did extend the invitation
I never knew how long you'd stay
When you hear temptation call
It's your heart that takes, takes the fall
(Won't you come out and play with me?)
Step by step
Heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down
Like toy soldiers
Bit by bit
Torn apart
We never win
But the battle wages on
For toy soldiers
It's getting hard to wake up in the morning
My head is spinning constantly
How can it be?
How could I be so blind to this addiction?
If I don't stop, the next one's gonna be me
Only emptiness remains
It replaces all, all the pain
(Won't you come out and play with me?)
Step by step
Heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down
Like toy soldiers
Bit by bit
Torn apart
We never win
But the battle wages on
For toy soldiers
We never win
Only emptiness remains
It replaces all, all the pain
(Won't you come out and play with me?)
Step by step
Heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down
Like toy soldiers
Bit by bit
Torn apart
We never win
But the battle wages on
For toy soldiers
Step by step
Heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down
Like toy soldiers
Bit by bit
Torn apart
We never win
But the battle wages on
For toy soldiers - เพลง
53 years old black male and i freaking loved this song. It took me back in another place in the 80's when i enjoyed Neverending Story, Dark Crystal, and other 80's fantasy moments. I wish i can go back and stay in the 80's forever!
You lived it 👏🏻 I was born 83 and I was raised on these song thanks to my mom pops was a rock kinda guy
Sir, I appreciate your thoughts but please understand that the only constant in life is CHANGE. We must embrace this. We all must progress with it.
💯💯💯
100%
Me too it was better then
Somebody just said, "let me go back to the 80s, I promise I won't come back". I agree. It was magic.
Those days were Magic for sure. Wishing I would have appreciated them at the time.
I think of this so often! I loved the '80s, it was magical to grow up then. Was it perfect? Nope. I struggle to look past my brain's normal-reflex to see only the best...& I do see the things I'd never want to experience again, like bullies & Dad's drinking. But God, how the GOOD overpowered the Bad! I will always miss that. Always.
Amen 🙏 I was born October 25 1980

@@taracollins5597 80s were the still the greatest times in history my father enjoyed life
This song is proof that the 80s were the best time for music. 80s were the best! We may not have had cell phones, but we knew how to have fun. Good times, great memories. 80s forever!! Greetings from Saint Marys, Georgia. ❤80s❤
Comparto la idea fueron épocas muy bellas y no creo k c repitan
Aw, the 70s had some pretty hot tunes, too.
Oddly enough I did use a cell phone in the late 80s, and I don't own one now.
i'd say 90's and 2000s were better, no offence
At my station, the devs
Please, let me go back to the 80's. I promise I won't come back.
I prefer going back to the 70's. I wouldn't come back either. : )
There's no internet back there.
Me too!! I'm a product of the early 70's and the best times of my life were the 80's . Please take me back. It's so ugly out there today and people parent the same anymore
Pick me up on the other side the pond 🇬🇧
Road Trip! No stopping until we see phone booths everywhere and our GPS turns in a roadmap! We will go ahead and pay extra for full service at the gas station. Girls will be girly and men will be men. If we catch some MTV on somewhere we can watch these kind of videos. It's gonna be a fun time...
I'm crying uncontrollably right now. I was born 1971. This music (80's) is life. I watched my wife and mother pass away just a month apart from each other in 2013. Then my oldest brother lost his father, then his oldest son, and finally he himself. And now my own health is failing. I find comfort on coming on youtube to listen to the 80's music I grew up on, although it can make me tear up. I long for the old days when life was so much more simple and happy.
Two months ago i scape from death. Please dont give up. I remember every doctors treat me in hospital. And i ask to God to still live. Back to fight my friend. Dont stop to fight.
Feel your pain m a 70's kid n lost mom way to young from drinking😔
You are special.
❤️
Very true born 72 wish I could go back to the 80's and stay there. Oh just thinking about them old days Jesus why cant it be like back then
Man I miss the 80's. Growing up as a kid in the 80's I want to go back and stay there. Life was 1000x better then than it is now. Still had my mom and dad and all my brothers. And I had the absolute biggest crush on this girl. I would watch MTV for hours just waiting to see this video
Yeah...I feel the same ..was the best time...
Still have both my parents but my dad is in a very bad shape...
So scared of losing him ..
Born in the 80s, grew up mostly in the early 90s, we did have the best childhood. The only “technology” we had was cable tv, and very early dial up “internet” which was locally run message boards and only text. My friends and I rode out bikes all summer, played with walkie-talkies, ran lemonade stands, climbed trees, make picnics, played outside til the street lights came on and mom was calling for us to come in. You couldn’t pay me to be a kid today.

The 80's in one song, the feel, the look, that's us... GENX the toughest and sadest generation.
I’m a child of the 80’s our generation had the best music so glad I can still listen to it 👍🏻❤️
Christa Varrone Sorry 70s kid here, my first music was watching Partridge Family TV Show 1970 -1974. I was kinda a ladies man in grade school the girls loved my IRISH Freckels on my face. Some kids wernt very nice they said is your whole Family a bunch of DRUNKS. That is kinda True most people think all IRISH are DRUNKS. I guess us IRISH are a little weird some born with Red Hair & Freckels covering our whole Body. Its funny Freckels disappear from our face but not the body. IRISH FOLKLORE says we get our Freckels from the Sun. That makes no sense IRISH Skin Burns easily in the sun. Us O"GRADY boys most have been good looking, these girls kept coming to our house some times right after school. Too bad only 8-9 year olds. For some reason my girlfriends called me James instead of Jim or Jimmy. I really liked my Rock N Roll Music ROLLING Stones Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Bob Seger, Doobie Brothers, Allman Brothers Lynyrd Skynyrd. I liked how those 70s girls had the hots for those Long Hair Rock Stars. Heres a few corny IRISH sayings I AM A LEPRECHAUN I DONT DATE HUMANS, YOU DONT SCARE ME I WAS RAISED BY AN IRISH MOTHER. AN IRISH GIRL WITHOUT FRECKELS IS LIKE A SKY WITHOUT STARS. AN IRISH GIRL IS A GUYS BEST DRINKING BUDDY. WARNING I MAY BE PRONE TO SHENANIGANS & MALARKEY. REDHEAD IRISH GIRLS ARE EXTRA FIESTY IN THE BEDROOM. MAY THE LUCK OF THE IRISH BE WITH YOU. KISS ME IM IRISH NO REALLY IM IRISH. PARENTS were crazy having 10 IRISH Kids. Not only that Mom side gave us kids 16 first cousins. IRISH Familys are known for having lots of kids. Too Bad ST PATRICKS PARADE is cancelled because of that Corona Virus. My Family turned out all right we all new our limits with Alcohol. Kinda funny I took a liken to Partridge Family Music at 8 years old. Some of those 70s concerts were crazy because of very little Security, even indoor concerts were bad. Then again how do you control 75,000 fans. Freckels in IRELAND are called ANGEL KISSES. Sorry about all IRISH Stuff Im just Proud of my IRISH HEARITAGE. RIP DAVID CASSIDY
Great decade of music
I agree totally.. It was great times with great music!
TV Show, Beverly Hills 90210, MTV, Fresh Prince, other music group: Phill Collins, Michael Jackson. I like the 80’s & 90’s

Reminds me of my wife. She died October 22, 2018 at only the age of 46. So horribly sad after all she was battling in overcoming cancer, anemia, and epstein-barr diseases. This song reminds me of how we all fall down in grief of loved ones who have died and reminds us of our own mortality despite the vibrance and optimism of our youth. Life is precious. Loved ones and family are precious! Cherish the love before we all fall down like toy soldiers!
So sorry for your loss, Dave. I hope you find peace.
Your wife may be gone but the memories of her will never go away.
Wow man, sorry to hear that, man I feel your pain, she passed on my parents birthday, they were the same age, they were soul mates, lost Mom last year, and dad 4 years ago, hang in there man, God bless
Honest Conscience Dave I cry for your loss my friend.God bless you.Thinking of you.

The 80s was magical
When music wasn`t only a cold product, it was emotion.
Check out The Rolling Stones, Ozzy Osborne, Pink Floyd, RHCP, and Willie Nelson's new songs. Music isn't dead yet.
80s was the best era💯
The original is still the best. This is one of the most beautiful and evocative songs ever written. 80s was the best decade, hands down.
This song probably has one of the best choruses ever written, it's up there with the best of them.
Written by Martika and her friend Michael Jay. The kids who sang it was Martika's friends from kids incorporated.
I'm thinking Depeche mode..Everything counts?
The grabbing hands grab all they can, all for themselves, after all its a competitive world, everything counts in large amounts.
*****
What's a cassette??
*****
Just to be clear, I know full well what a cassette is, and have a box full of them somewhere as well. Stupid kids.
This was later used in a Eminem song as choices
I graduated High School in 1989 and remember this song vividly. I didn't realize it then but the 80's was a magical decade and a certain innocence and simplicity has been lost since then. When I listen to these old songs I'm instantly transported back in time, and to be honest with you it depresses me somewhat because there is not going back.
Its same 👍graduate 1986 Kielce, Poland
Class of '89 here. Ditto!
I want to go back so bad!
I am so jealous of you!!! And I am born in 2002. Wish I graduated high school in 1989.

Everyone thinks that of the years they were in high school. Nothing anymore special about the 80's than any other decade you just remember it more fondly.
Damn ..we 80's kids really did grow up in a great era

Every single 35 year old says this about when they were 10. And that's fine
Yes we did we are so lucky because the music is shite now
I was born in 1980. I was a young kid when this song came out. My sister use to pop in a VHS tape and record MTV videos, hoping this song would play. When it did, that whole VHS tape was her and she would listen to this song over and over. I hated it but here I am, 32 years later, listening to this song, and going back to a happier time in life. Love the 80s.
Back when MTV meant Music TeleVision...
Great story similar to mine. But in my story, I was sitting in front of the TV and had the tape. Now, many years later, I still feel that moment. The tape itself got lost, but whenever I have a bad moment. I use this "tape" so called internet and the sun comes back
me too, love this song.
Much happier time brother

Sadly it is also movies TV shows and everything else that is also soulless. Everything is standardized to make money not history :)
George Workout Ⓥ Tell me about it. When is the last time they made a tv show about a functional family? Now every show seems to be 30-50something single people living in the city dealing with depressing problems and not appearing to be happy people. Where do people get the warm/fuzzy feeling of watching a family or close group of friends deal with life like in all the shows from the 80s?
Stiff Wit One could say it simply reflects the reality of today(everyone single or divorced), another might speculate that it molds it to be this way.

All 80's music is a treasure. I remember staying up late to watch Friday Night Videos. Then an underground music video showcase on a UHF channel in Chicago. I lived outside the country for 10 years. I always loved returning during Christmas and hearing new sounds. Living abroad exposed me to experiences my American peers couldn't imagine. It shaped me into a person that sees people as people not labels. Many Americans can benefit from that same experience today.
Now, with that said. I believe Charli XCX's Boom Clap song borrowed from Toy Soldiers. They may not admit it. But the abstract lyrics and chorus timing are similar elements with a faster tempo. I wouldn't be surprised if she listened to Toy Soldiers and said. "Hey I want a to make a song like that." in her English accent. Of course this is my opinion. You say you don't know another song like this. It's likely you do but can't remember. Because I didn't recall Toy Soldiers until I happened upon it again. I want to share 2 songs that I think will have you feeling some intense emotions. Both are from the same artist.
If you're not used to listening to this genre. Give it chance, and maybe it will be best to listen the first time with good headphones. Don't listen on your laptop speakers unless they are high quality. I'm not taking anything away from Toy Soldiers. I love music, any kind of music. Oh, and be careful with the first song. It might scare you at the beginning lol. Enjoy the musical genius of...

@@djacksonafter700 thanks for remembering Friday Night Videos. For all us kids who couldn't afford cable or satellite. Used to be luxury. Your family has CABLE? I've got chips and soda!
@@matthewscott5450 We had cable too. But I started watching free TV and had my regular shows Dr. WHO, Benny Hill, Monty Python, etc.
This song embodies pain and emotion plus the fact that the chorus is sung by children as well as some of the synth sounds add a very special atmosphere of innocence.
It's sad that Martika didnt had much success after "Toy Soldiers" but she will be forever remembered for it. Truly a very special song.
Sometimes one hit is all we need to remember how good the 80s were especially this song, which gave eminem a platform through sampling.
@@aclayton231 that's true. Still i love both of Martika's albums.

I loved the eighties music, I'm so glad I was in my twenties in the 80's.
I was in my 20s in the late 1980s, I was 20 years old in 1987 and 22 years old in 1989 when this song was released.
Was a child in the 1980’s.
Actually 2 years old (1980) thru 12 (1990) years old.
I liked 80' music and I was 10 years old when the Beatles hit. I like a lot of music from 60's through 80's. not so much after 2000

Maaan I was 8 years old when this song came out. Born in the U.S. but we moved from the U.S. to Lebanon right in the middle of its Civil War. I recorded this song off the radio and would literally play this song (in our makeshift bomb shelter) over and over on the nights where the fighting and shelling reached our village. It eased my anxiety and helped me go to sleep..
I fucking love this song and hate it at the same time.
That's a very vivid and powerful memory.
Sorry you went through that. I have the same relationship with early 90's R&B. My abusive step dad loved it. Byt it also helped me escape.
That’s crazy! Glad you’re ok. :) ✌️
I just so happen to be Lebanese decent and am currently fighting my own internal civil war. Always get up.
Tim Capello: I Still Believe from Lost Boys. yeah... The sax song. Is an awesome follow to listen to after this.
I miss you 80's 😭
And the 70s for me.

What an amazing voice she has

🤔 Martika, it seems to me that her voice has some similarities to Enya's.
And charisma.
What a beautiful time to be a teenager/young woman. Absolutely a beautiful time to be alive! It’s definitely a vibe….. I wanna go back. The music was fucking amazing!!! It hurts my heart when I hear this music because l yearn for that time in my life so badly
We all do

Sinto essa mesma sensação. Queria uma máquina do tempo😢
There's just this unique way that some 80s songs hit you, and this is one of them. In addition to the message, I'm not sure whether it's the visuals or the way the songs were produced back then, but it just grips you in a way that no other era does.
I agree 100! Love 80s music!
So Truth, since i was 14 the teen girl and the black and white effect always got me till this day!

One of the greatest classic's ever made, and one that'll never age, still hits the same after all these years. An unforgettable track
Gen X had the best music and we survived our free roam childhood! We should've enjoyed it more
Miss the 80s... the lost boys, the goonies, songs like this
This song takes me back to childhood during the 80's. A time when life was much simpler and people talked to each other, face to face, for hours. If you needed answers, you rode your bike to the library and hung out with Dewey Decimal. The entire summer was spent at the public pool where the air was full of chlorine, kids were taking turns seeing how far they could swim underwater on one breath, and for snacks we had Mello Yello and Chick-o-Sticks. Riding my bike all over town because everyone knew everyone and we looked out for each other and didn't have to worry about getting snatched up or shot at. If you got in trouble, you're bike was never fast enough to beat the phone call home to your parents and you were held accountable for your actions. No cellphones, no computers, no video games (unless your parents had money). We weren't allowed to sit in the house on a sunny day and we never ate a meal at home that wasn't at the table. My God, how I miss those years. I wish I would have realized how special they were.
It was a simpler better time.
The 80s were rife with serial killers and child abductors, much more so than now. Lack of security cameras, no computer databases to analyze crimes, no DNA databases...I grew up in the 70s and 80s, but let's not pretend they were free from anything bad. Hell, where I lived there was a series of child murders that has still never been solved.
@@maureenthomas9758 It was neither. It was just a different time.
@@19Lucifuga71 You weren't there, so how do you know?

The good ol' days for music and movies. The 80's and part of the 90's were THE best times of my life. We were young, healthy and full of life and life was GOOD. Today I have Parkinson's and my time is limited. Enjoy life while you have it.

One of my Favourite song, best 80's
There will never be another 80s, EVER!
Well, there will be in sixty years.
You're 100% right man.. No one can go back to the past...Only God can do that . He lives in the past, Present , and Future at the same time. God created time too. In other words we are the only ones to live in the time past , present and future. It's hard to understand it ...but that's the truth👍👍
we knew what love was ,,we were real and powerful ...that never died ...

Not true, in less than 60 years there will be another 80s
Toy Soldiers hit number one on the billboard top 100 on July 16th 1989

The best song released in 1989.
Like A Prayer by Madonna but this is a close second.
Mike L Are you serious? Like A Prayer has been voted Madonna's greatest song in numerous polls and publications; she even said it herself.
Mike L Nope, not even close. You're the one sprewing stupid false statements like "Like A Prayer isn't even a top ten Madonna song." According to who? You? Everyone knows that's her top song.
Mike L I said her greatest song, not her favorite song you dumbass. There is a difference.
No it was not. You're such an idiot. I'm not going by fanmade pages to determine this stuff; I'm going by legitimate publications like Rolling Stone and Q magazine. You obviously don't know much about her or her music. Piss off
