I think it goes unsaid they took a lot of influence from Sigue Sigue Sputnik, who were also avowed T Rex stans (The had a single called 21st Century Boy' off the first album). There's a lot of SSS style in the opening track 'Trash City' for sure. Both bands took refs from hundreds of different sources but SSS did this mashup futuristic punk rock before a number of others.
