Could be something wrong with the battery tube insert or something wrong with the circuit used to charge/detect the batteries and that is setting off some type of safety. Sofirn should send you a replacement tube to see if that changes anything or if they know the issue they should either refund you or replace the whole light. If their customer support is as good as Wurkkos then I’d imagine they will take care of it. Wurkkos was very quick to send me a replacement ts25, before I even had a chance to respond to one of their emails I already got a replacement in the mail, they must have sent it via prime through their Amazon store. I did expect them to honor the 1 year warranty but I wasn’t expecting such amazing service like I would from a premium top of the line brand. I really appreciate and respect that.
If you unscrew the outer tube on the driver, then you must not tighten the tailcap, otherwise you press the inner tube on the driver and the outer tube no longer has contact with the driver. Therefore, always loosen the tailcap a little first, then screw the outer tube onto the driver, then tighten the tailcap and you will have no more problems.
Honestly I noticed that if you change batteries from tail cap and don't mess with unscrewing the head I have no issues, so what he is saying is apparently true, I will do some more testing on how he explains it.
@@smotheredchrome I would consider this type of issue as a serious reliability issue and would not even leave it at home for my family to use for whatever reason. Local resellers have also received their stock here but having seen your review, might just wait and see whether this is an isolated issue. 😩
Definitely understand my friend, I'm still waiting on AliExpress for my refund or replacement. Sofirn store thru AliExpress said to wait for my refund so I'm guessing I'll get a refund.
That's a bummer about your light, hopefully they do the right thing and take care of it. I like the beam pattern of the SP70 better. It seems more practical since it has a bigger spill which should make navigation easier. They are both nice lights minus the problem.
It just needs button top cells, as the ones that comes with the flashlight if you choose that option, just put a bulb of solder on the positive pole and you are good to go
i really like that the sp70 comes with the in house shoulder strap, i think more flashlights should give that option but if sp60 is variant of sf47t it should have more efficient buck driver, hence the higher cost
Got my SP60 the other day. My thoughts: The beam profile is really, really good. The ribbing on the battery tube feels kind of gross in the hand. I wish this was a regulated light, and I would pay more for it...unfortunately, it does get dimmer as the battery voltage drops. I may send this light to a modder and get the high CRI 4000K XHP70.3 swapped in. I like the idea of a warm, high CRI thrower with this great beam profile. The overcharging issue doesn't affect me, as I use a dedicated charger whether a light has USB-C or not, but it's VERY bad for Sofirn.
Bummer that you're SP60 has an issue Joseph. Keep us updated on Sofirn's customer service. I'm sure they'll do the right thing to remedy the problem. Thanks for the SP60 vs SP70 showdown as I was curious too how we the two would perform against each other! Glad you did the review! My SP60 has the best beam patterns of all my lights and so far haven't encountered any problems yet, so unless a problem pops up, it is one of my favorite flashlights, if not my favorite. A big shout out to our Piercing the Darkness friend and yourself for calling out the problems with the SP60! Have a good rest of the week my friend and thanks again for all that you do for us!
Good day sir. The unit I ordered just arrived this morning. I am going to fully charge-discharge-charge the batteries first. But sofirn batteries included usually exceed the declared mah. Thank you for the review sir.
Did you see that Wurkkos has come out with a TS10 in copper and RGB auxiliary lights? I ordered mine today from their website, so it should arrive in a month or so. I really like my green body TS10 with orange 🍊 auxiliary. Now, the copper one can have the standard colors in the auxiliary lights plus disco party 🥳 mode.😀
Thank you my friend I appreciate your comment 🙏 Yes I seen they released it. Looks very nice, plus there is a extra 10% off with coupon code copper10 on wurkkos website 😀 👍
Definitely understand I have done that alot also, I also got the penny cob light and I already have one I bought when they first came out, you had a choice between the circle or square I chose the circle and this one looks like the square.
Enjoyed the video. Love my SP70. I was wondering if you'd compared the stock 26650s with something like T40s on your lumen tube? Or maybe a better 26650 next to Sofirn batteries. Would be very interesting to see.
I have used mine enough to charge the batteries two times. Only unscrewed the tail cap. No issues. But, the second time after charging and putting them in the tube and screwing the tail cap on i heard arching and smoke came out. But after complety screwing the cap on it worked. Kind of sketchy.
I got reimbursed half my money back, so I'm overall happy. The issue seems to be that you need to screw the tube to the head first before you tighten the tail cap and no issues. My version following them steps I have no issues but if I tighten the tail cap first then screw on the head it red flashes.
Got mine today directly from Sofirn. As per your advice I am charging externally with P45b Molicels. So far so good, seems like a great light. Update: unfortunately I have the same issue now.. runs fine without the tube but the batteries are loose. Any suggestions for a solution?

I am still in contact with Sofirn about the recurring issue. Have sent them a video. Their suggested solution of cleaning the battery poles and tightening the cap has not helped. Another issue I have is that it is totally impossible to unscrew the driver/top part of the light. Now awaiting further reply from Sofirn..

@@smotheredchrome returnimg mine for a refund having sent a video of this issue to Sofirn. It does not work properly whatever I try and the driver will not unscrew either. Too bad really.
Sorry to hear that my friend, mine is fine as long as I don't mess with unscrewing the head. There is definitely a issue they need to fix as this is a excellent performer IMHO.

Hi bro. To solve the problem with the sp 60 I used some magnetic buttons that I placed on the positive side of the batteries.
in my measurements the SP60 and SP70 generated around 6500 lumens. the difference is much more noticeable at long distances.

It's not charging batteries evenly, mismatched voltages causing problem. Charge them on your external charger.
