Fantastic Irene. Your freezing dried food concept is so simple yet brilliant. I have thrown away lots of food from my ‘collection’ because it was too old. Time for me to implement your methodology. Thank you as always!
I'm so glad you find it helpful! I hate to waste food but I also want my fish to eat the freshest stuff possible. This was a good in-between solution. :)
You are such an important human to me Irene! Seeing a confident, passionate and knowledgeable woman with a similar ethnic background to myself is a massive thing - thank you for being you! (And also for making it ok to be make up free, or made up, whatever you feel like - ahhhhh liberating
Great video as always Irene! Honestly I think its adorable how your kids leave notes when fish died so you can be more prepared and not take it too hard. Really amazing!
I don’t know what scares me more, waking up to the drawings behind my door or the dead fish lol. I love it though, would look super cool if you frame them and put it in a contemporary art gallery.
Your video’s are user friendly and you make them fun, informative, and affordable. I just watch your videos and feel so inspired that maybe I’m not doing this now. But I could at some future time. I’m learning a lot even though I’m a senior citizen. Thank you. 👍🌟❤️
Oh good! Since I've started making videos for Aquarium Co-Op, I wanted to try a more casual, personal format for my own channel. We'll see if more people agree with you. :)
Where have you been all these years Julia 🤣🤣 such a great video Irene.I really appreciated you showing how to make the repashy (spelling?) Soylent Green.. you might be onto something.. a TH-cam fish food cooking channel 🤣🤣👍 So sorry you have had some sickness.. you are an incredible fish keeper and I believe it helps others when you can share the ups and the downs of this hobby!! As always thank you for another great video. I always learn a lot from you!👍🐟🌱🌿
Super video again, Irene! You’ve finally convinced me that I need to try repashy. Hahaha “Happy Thursday!”... on Friday 🤣 - I totally lose track of days during these crazy times as well 😁 I love your tip about the aliquoting of the dry foods in the freezer - going to steal that one!
Yay, I'm glad the tips helped! All my fish seem to love Repashy, but it does break up into small particles easily so make sure you have some bottom feeders to clean them up. :)
Great video very inspiring! One thing I did notice though is that you planted the crypt all bunched up instead of separating it into separate plants... I used to do this and my plants kept dying, then a lady at my fish store told me to plant them separately and my plants have thrived ever since. But If planting them bunched together works for you that's completely fine tho! Just thought id share my own experience :)
"Helllooo!" hahaha!! I feed a micro pellet everyday on auto feeders. Then I mix it up to supplement. Frozen baby brine, bottom pellets, rapashy, bug bites, fry food, and krill flake.
My main tank is a community tank. I feed every day a high quality all in one stick to be sure they get everything their diet requires. And in the evenings I'll give them either some spirulina, freeze dried bloodworms, or their favourite freeze dried brine shrimp.
Your videos are my absolute favorite. Such great info, presented in a concise and easy to understand manner. Thanks so much for sharing! How long is the dry food good for once opened? ie: how often are you dumping the old and refilling with your next frozen bag?
Good question! I believe my boss Cory says fish food is the freshest for a month. I keep my opened fish food in the fridge, so I stretch it out to 3-5 months.
@@GirlTalksFish I found two Rapashy types available online in Australia.. very excited about this new product, I am sure my fish will be even happier than me

Love the baby spoon for feeding 😂 thanks for the levamisole tip, I've been fasting. I'm getting a microscope to try to diagnose fish disease because I can't stand the guessing. 3 years of biology classes finally in use!
Haha, gotta put those little spoons to use somehow now that the kids are older! That's so cool that you're using a microscope; let me know if you see anything interesting!
I have severums so lettuce, cucumber, peas, green beans and zucchini are on regular rotation, along with Repashy, cichlid pellets or shrimp wafers. I joke that I only have a garden in order to feed my fish. 😆 My baby blue acara tank are crazy for bloodworms and brine shrimp.
An interesting thought just came through my mind and reminds me of my early days of fishing with my wife. When we had no money at all we go from fish store to fish store looking to see what they had to see if they had anything exceptional that we might want. But I have a feeling people today don't do as much traveling for fish as I used to so maybe a thought on how people that are going to peruse a fish store in contrast to the average customer. Maybe when I'm talking about is the local customer versus the fish tourist. On myself like to wait till they're done helping local customers and then ask my questions and I assume that most people would do this instead of demanding to be the first in line for attention even though you're not intending to buy a whole lot. In the end I get to know my local fish shops and I consider that within 50 mi I get to know what that shopkeeper likes dislikes as far as fit fish and whether or not he'd be interested in fish that I have for sale or if they're particularly looking for anything. Even to the point where if I'm looking for a specific fish I can ask them if they've ever run into it and sometimes I get a yes it's the fruit. That's how I found my first emerald green - corridors back in 1984 back when those were unheard of but one guy in bend Oregon had a couple and I had to drive them back three hours to my fish tank. So maybe a thought on the Aquarius visiting shops. I know this is probably not in your usual range of topics

Great video Irene! I have a variety of dry food from pellets, flakes, Fluva bites and homemade food to feed my bettas. Irene I have not tried the brine shrimp and live worms. Lol. I am concerned they will multiply or be all over my tank! Lol

Fortunately or unfortunately, I haven't been on many long vacations, so if it's for less than a week, I don't feed the fish anything. :) However, if it's for longer than a week, I use the Eheim auto feeder: amzn.to/3hHFtfU - It's very reliable and you can always put tape across the opening to make it smaller if too much food is pouring out. :)
Great advice on storing the food and helping it to last longer. Do you also store fish tank conditioners, and meds in the frig too? Can we do that and it won't harm the effectiveness (i.e. Primer, de-stresser, trio of fish meds)?
I know that I'm SOOO late but I was wondering if 1. I actually need to have a quarantine tank and 2. What food should I feed my betta fish if I also have snails in the tank as well.
