Four days ago, I came home tired and worn out. I sat down at my desk with a cold cold soda, and turned on my TH-cam wondering what to watch before my nap I desperately wanted. Have to admit I was having a bad day and really just wanted something to go right for once... and there you are!!!! I was so happy to see you, and you have brightened up my day! Thank you. I didn't know how the crab was caught, I thought only HUGE SHIPS from somewhere by Alaska got crabs. Thank you for everything you do. One other thing, I cooked one of your meals, and it was delicious!! Absolutely GREAT!!!
Used to go crabbing with my dad as a kid, I loved pulling up the cage and seeing all the crabs. Dad had a tall wooden basket and it would be filled to the top, we would spend hours cracking and eating all of them, some great memories.
So, I live in Oregon too and I was like OMG you live in Oregon and never been crabbing. Next time you go crabbing. Check the tide you want to go when the tide is coming in, also leave your chicken on the counter over night. Crab love smelly chicken. Also, you can keep your crab in water. You are crabbing where my parents go all the time. 😊 Love your videos. It's cool watching you go to different places. I have only lived in Oregon for 5 years. Most of that was stuck inside due to covid and college. But my parents have lived here off and on all their lives.
We used to crab off our dock in blue point Long Island with chicken legs and in the fall we would go on our boat in the great South Bay in the flats and scoop them up with a light. Great memories
An untold number of decades ago when being raised by my parents, they used to take me crabbing and fishing at a place called Moss Landing on the Monterey Bay. We would get our fill of Rock Craps and take them home and prepare them right away. While they were cooking in a large pot, mom would make some fresh homemade bread. We also made it a point to have some Monterey Jack cheese on hand. It was always very delicious. What a treat. My month is watering.......
Hi Jonathan, new subscriber from a few days ago. Enjoying your content and amazed to see how you've progressed through the years. I just turned 60 and will be living VanLife soon. Keep up the incredible incredible content and hoping things in your life keeps going as planned. 😊🤙
Man, I really enjoy watching your videos. Very chill and I like your editing. You should visit Cape Cod sometime and camp in Plymouth. Also, that crab melt looks delicious! As a chef i appreciate your cooking ability.
I love your cooking videos. I grew up on Long Island, NY and we used to go out at night in the boat to hunt for crabs. We ran the boat under the bridge and shined the flashlight into the water. The crabs would swim up to the surface and we would scoop them up with the crab net.
Welcome back the the Pacific Northwest! My uncle goes salmon fishing out of Newport frequently during the season. When I was a kid he would bring back salmon and crab for the whole extended family.
I was just coming to the comments to say this haha. You can keep 24 Red Rock crabs of any size/sex in Oregon. It's been awhile since I've had Red Rock crab but I recall their meat being sweeter than Dungeness crab.
Loved watching you catch crab. When I was young, we used chicken backs as bait. It's cheaper and, I think, just as effective. Your cooking looks so yummy!!
I an so jealous! As a teen I often went crabbing at the Jersey shore area with my Mom and Dad. We would catch quite a few and then enjoy them for dinner - how I miss that! Your sandwich looked great -thanks for sharing and stirring up some great memories.
I live in oregon. And I'll tell you what I've been to some other states for Oregon is by far my favorite. The forests are great here the water is great the mountains are great there isn't one bad thing I can say about Oregon
Great looking crab roll Jonathan ! Next Time ,You might try using the crab shell as your mixing bowl , and incorporating the crab "Butter"into your mixture, adds a smooth and tasty component . Thanks for the Video !
If you could have seen the side-eye I gave my iPad when you called the 90s “retro”. I was your age in the 90s and it doesn’t seem like it was that long ago.
Hey Jonathan! You really need to plan a nice long trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan!! So many waterfalls and lakes for fishing! You would love it! It's our happy place! ❤
I enjoy that road going towards Ripplebrook. I’m on my motorcycle most of the time though. One of these days I’ll have to head out there with my truck and scout around.
Trial and error. It’s the learning curve. At least you’re making the effort to learn and get better at your craft. Always a great thing when you can eat a sustainable food source that you took pride in securing. Makes it taste that much sweeter! Dinner looked tasty 😋. #ThanksForSharing #SafeTravels #HappyCamping
Awesome video Jonathan! That crab sandwich looked great. I want that recipe. You worked so hard for that sandwich! It looked delicious. I watched you and your gf make a veggie lasagna in your truck camper and You inspired me to make a veggie lasagna and it was delicious!
You did a great job for your first crabbing trip. Another great place to crab is in Wheeler. A Place Called Paradise Cove. They will cook your crab for you. My family's been crabbing there for years
I know where you were. I could navigate that area blind folded. Used to live up near the CCC years ago as well. And believe it or not, there are tons of scorpions up along that river. People always think its a joke when I mention that, because its the last thing you would think to hear in this area, but I used to collect them for OSU lol. Great vid. Keep em comin.
Ceviche tostada would be delicious too… chopped up tomatoes avocados red onions cilantro cucumber and green regular jalapeños and shredded crab 🦀 with lime or lemon juice with some tostada shells or tortilla chips with some drizzled Tapatio sauce.. delicious 😋
Wow, crabbing has certainly changed since I was young. We used to tie a piece of meat on a string and sit and hold it off the pier. We could see the crabs come get it. Sure was fun. Love your videos, Mr Chef😅. You do such a good job. Love garlic in just about anything.
I'm loading up the truck and heading to Oregon to buy a crab pot and catch a crab and make a crab-roll. (All in my mind) thank you for the great time and video...
Curious. When you said you were going to broil it, I thought you were going to put it beneath the flame. At least that is the only way I know of broiling in an oven. I use the red, orange and yellow bell peppers in a variety of dishes. Most of the time I cook them slowly for about 15 minutes. That gives them a few minutes more to achieve maximum sweetness and they are sweet. I use them in frittatas, omelettes, potato salad and soups. I'm going to make stuffed peppers with one of each color. See how interesting that is.
That one Dungeness Crab was definitely worth it- that looked soooo good!🦀🥪I'm actually learning something on how to catch the Dungeness Crabs, as well! 🍗🍗Thanks for sharing!!🥤
Loved the crabbing but that pier was gorgeous to a fisherman like myself ! Wow , I've got to go experience that ! Thanks Much for the video of it! I would have been fishing between checking on the crab cage ! Noticed the pretty little pick up you were driving , assuming you picked up a new daily driver ? Congrats on that , it's really nice looking ! Take care til the next episode !
Those red crabs are called red rock crabs and you are allowed to keep 24 of them any size male or females. Also you should check out garibaldi pier for some crabbing one of my favorite spots . Best time to crab there is usually early mornings I would say
Hey Johnathan That was an amazing video and seeing the crab wow I don't eat crab But I'm sure this was delicious I have a quick Question have you made cracked crab salad ?
Another absolutely awesome video. Can't wait to see you do more crabbing. Although, I would never eat that sandwich (cream cheese, blech!), I would have eaten both halves separately, like French bread pizzas, but that's just me. Thank you for posting and welcome back to the best coast :D Can't wait for the next video.
Jonathon, we love your videos! Thank you for your time in making them!! I have to ask, what is your cooking experience? You handle the utensils, knives especially, as a professional, or as you have had some training . Keep adventuring young man! See you next time!
Cheers .. I’m drinking a cold snack for you since you didn’t have one with that awesome sandwich . I always look forward to Sunday uploads . Safe travels ……..
I make mine with mayonnaise instead of mustard but pretty much the same ingredients otherwise. I mix chopped up shrimp with the crab also...seafood salad sandwich 🤌🏾👨🍳💋

Hello Johnathan enjoyed your Dungee crab cooking, the scenery and back ground music is awesome.

Thanks for making me hungry. Keep it up 👍👍👍
Reminded me a family vacation many many years ago. Catching Dungeness crabs while camping at Dungeness Spit on the Olympic Peninsula!
That sandwich looked sooo good! Ill definitely have to try & make that myself.
Your content keeps getting better and better.
You can keep the red crabs. There is no size restriction the last time I was in Oregon. They are actually tastier.
I was just coming to the comments to say this haha. You can keep 24 Red Rock crabs of any size/sex in Oregon. It's been awhile since I've had Red Rock crab but I recall their meat being sweeter than Dungeness crab.
Your videos are really a lot of fun to watch 😀👍🚐

Excellent teaching video. I live in Oklahoma, far from any oceans so learning about crabbing was all new to me. Thanks for sharing!
watch some of the half moon bay crabbing vids when allowed they are abundant.
Shout out to you for teaching me how to cook 😋 Always delicious meals
If you could have seen the side-eye I gave my iPad when you called the 90s “retro”. I was your age in the 90s and it doesn’t seem like it was that long ago.
I never think it was that long ago either until I remember how old my daughter is.

Bro, you look so happy to be back on the west coast
That first bit had me grinning from 😊🦻🏻2🦻🏻❤
Yum. Love that chive 'n' onion cream cheese with nova salmon or herring. Only thing I'm missing on that melt is some sliced tomato.
I’m glad you at least got one❤❤ Worth it
That did look tasty. Thanks for sharing the experience 🙂

Never had to much success crabbing at Newport, but have limited out many times at Winchester Bay.
Crabbing is so fun and time consuming ❤ delicious meal 🦀🦀 I went in Baltimore ❤❤
I love Dungeoness crabs! It’s been sooo looong since I’ve had some. Since I live in TN they are extremely expensive when you can find them.
My mouth is watering!
That looked amazing! 😊
Thanks for that jacket intro, just got me one...
Now I'm hungry for similar. That looks so tastey. Stay safe and TFS.

Love your videos! Please talk about how you shoot them. Camera gear, settings, colors, etc. Thank you!
That’s awesome man!!!!
Love it!!!
😎👍🏻👍🏻
Yeah, i prefer Crab over Lobster any day! Love them both but Crab is the better! That sandwich looked really tasty!
It's not so messy and hard to eat by eating one half at a time, Looks so good ❤ 23:06
your vids are dope and inspiring G thanks for that...
Dungeness. I’ve had crab all over the USA. Alaska King Crab and Dungeness are the best.
The best times to crab are during slack tide. Time your fishing based on the tides.
Omg, you made me so hungry. I have to try that😊
I make mine with mayonnaise instead of mustard but pretty much the same ingredients otherwise. I mix chopped up shrimp with the crab also...seafood salad sandwich 🤌🏾👨🍳💋
Being from Maryland, all I could think about was, "Dude, where's the Old Bay seasoning?" 🤣 We're blue crab eaters here, though mostly. 😁
great content mate.
