I don't want o spoil the step by step for myself, so I'll just leave this support comment here. Reading some of the other comments, I need to start a new character to avoid the temple glitch so that I have plenty of powers to use on the enemies. Even in the base game you could find systems where high level enemies take too long to kill to bother fighting them.

It took me ages to realise I had powers. Just like you said on stream ages ago when fighting a super tanky enemy, solar flare works wonders
