It kind of makes sense that house varuun would take captured equipment from the settled systems and make their own improved version of it. Similar to the Japanese in the 80s how they took other peoples technology and made it better.
An interesting commentary on the DLC, yeah, I'm a sucker and will get it. You may be pining for new ship parts, but that's what Avon Tech and Matilija Aerospace are for, they've been sneaking Va'ruun tech out for months (hahah)!
I didn't even think about ship parts until the internet brought it up tbh xD We already had a shape and color scheme on the existing varuun crafts, so just make it snake-y and paint it black and name it "Varuun Whatever" you know
I recently finished the main quest and really liked it. I particularly enjoyed fighting against these Phantoms as a level 100+ Starborn. There is just something neat about two different supernatural beings with different powers and agendas unexpectedly encountering one another and clashing. No spoilers, but I'm really hoping there is a galactic war DLC considering the ending of the story. Not just based on your choice here, but also the tension between the UC and FC in the vanilla campaign. I feel like they let you join and get to know every side, only for a future DLC to make you pick one permanently. I think that's why we don't see any consequences for our choice. They introduced this new faction, but it's not time for war yet. It's coming. It is kind of disappointing they don't let you be evil. The whole point of being a Starborn is that we can be whatever we want in one universe and be something different in the next. BUT if there is a war DLC like I mentioned above, I suppose they don't want you to pick this option because it's premature. Edit: I was just thinking... when you visit the Va'ruun Embassy in the UC storyline you encounter weird flora which affects you, causing hallucinations. This is supposed to be flora from Va'ruun'kai. Did you see anything like that while on the planet. I don't recall ever doing so. I'm curious to do a fresh playthrough and really see what, if anything, the DLC adds to the vanilla campaign. I was in the middle of Andreja's companion quest and she hadn't come out as Va'ruun yet when I was on the planet. They did add unique dialog options saying something along the lines of "You let me become Promised and didn't tell me?" There must be more additions like that.
Okay, fair warning, do not play a drinking game where you take a shot every time Crimson says "basically"; you'll be dead within an hour. As for the DLC, I saw a breakdown suggesting that there were 3 Houses where one was basically(💀) Zealots-lite, another wanted to take a proselytizing route, and the third was the opportunistic middle of the road faction. Now, chances are whatever is masquerading as the "Great Serpent" doesn't really care for its followers, so feel free to pick whatever you think is best for the people there.
A little let-down? I found it quite satisfying slamming the door on plans to start another war. The Great Serpent never told anybody to start a war. Anasko confirmed he had never spoken to The Great Serpent. Nor his father. Nor Jinan outside of that first contact. So why? Why another war? I'll tell you. Power and ego. Nothing more. So nope.
The only reason the lack of ship parts annoyed me is we actually see Va'ruun ships illustrated twice in the base game and in those instances they're clearly not Stroud, Taiyo, etc.
@@ph0759 Yes, no doubt someone will eventually make something like that. Was hoping for something "lore-friendly" straight from Bethesda, though, whereas with creations we'll likely get over the top things like Avontech for example. That's just me being overly nitpicky for roleplaying purposes, though. Maybe someday someone will really break down the ships illustrated in the base game and recreate them.
@@ph0759yep that's what i think. Like fallout 4 had some very small DLCs which only added to the settlement building. Hopefully we'll see something like that before the next story dlc.
Can't watch. Here's a thumbs up. I just got my Serpent's Embrace character into NG+ and built a ship/gathered resources to do Shattered Space. Not going to spoil it for myself.
"Bethesda's Lead Creative Producer of Starfield, Tim Lamb, recently spoke to Gaming Boulevard and provided more details on the type of updates players can come to expect with Starfield Shattered Space. According to Lamb, Bethesda has "introduced new ship customization options, which allow players to really tailor their vessels to their playstyle." Lamb goes on to say, "there are new tools and gadgets that will help players interact with the environment in deeper, more meaningful ways."" So was this just a lie? There is nothing resembling this in the expansion. I am primarily a ship-builder and was extremely disappointed by Shattered Space.
They are lazy, when you gonna learn guys that they dont have passion anymore? They care only for money, and spread the propaganda of woke in games, nothing else
It's a solid B for me. I agree on the ship parts. I haven't finished the main quest yet. I got far enough to figure out that Anasko is an arse hole. I took a break last night to explore the planet, and damn, scanning the critters was a pain in the ass. 3 biomes with variants of the same creatures was tedious AF. Overall I feel like we have more depth for the Va'ruun and even most of them don't care for the zealots.
25:42 I caught something in dialogue when the guy building the Mourning device said that because I only grabbed one of the devices we still needed to connect to the power grid. So maybe if you grab two you don't even need House Veth'aal's help.
Coffee time! As I stated in discord, I was really looking forward to the hundreds of hours new ship parts for the builder would have brought in addition to the couple hours questing. The DLC is good for sure, but Bethesda dropped the ball on keeping the game alive. Great video, good review.
They surely have. Maybe a Vu Ruun version of the vehicle or something. Each house should have had an armor suit and ship. That would have been great. Microsoft is ruining Bethesda plain and simple. The players have gotten thrown into the trash for the shareholders.
Was also surprised there's seemingly no way to get on friendly terms with the Zealots like we can with the Crimson Fleet. Especially given some of the choices we can make at the end of the main quest and the politics of each faction.
I enjoyed the main quest especially the decision you had to make rescuing the hostages at the secret base The reveal of what the experiment was actually about and what the speaker was doing with it opens up a lot of possibilities for future events because the research for how to create it again, still exist, even after the final confrontation
I don't know how you grinded this in 8 hours. I have more than 20 and just now starting on the father and son issue. there is another part you didn't mention. did you do the cave one to talk to Anasko? That one was kewl. It was like you were running through his brain with all the nerve endings and nerve electrical. The power station I think has multiple endings. I didn't have the flood issue and I think it may be because I challenged the entity on that issue. I didn't get 2 vortex's. I took the one and destroyed the last power source assuming it would kill them since they needed the power to the pods to survive. I took out the power to the dam. I did run into a small group of spacers in the poi right next to them that set up shop and weren't there when I went to the dam at the start. They also seemed to have slightly different gear which I used loot to grab. I'm just at the point where you are asked to kill the son. I didn't tell him exactly I would. I think it was the 3rd option I want to say? when I walked out of the room, they guy also expresses he didn't want the son dead as well. That is where I will pick up the game again today and see for sure if the pirates did in fact have slightly altered gear. From what I'm getting is most of the houses were already behind the scenes looking for a power grab and 2 at least are no better than the zealots.
I've done all of the main story and 3 or 5 side quests. I was really hoping for an alternative where we didn't have to kill his son. Maybe I did miss it
I’ve only reached the point in the expansion just after the cave initiation with the Great Serpent and you meet the High Council for the very first time. That’s where I am just taking my time. So honestly I don’t have any real flushed out opinion other than to say I’ve enjoyed the intro on the Oracle Space Station to Shattered Space. Though I’ve heard a gauntlet of opinions from all over TH-cam and seen some streams of what others have thought about it. Including one fairly popular and very opinionated game streamer who’s stream I watched though was overly negative and negative to Bathesda (I don’t think highly of Bathesda either) who just ran speed ran thru the Spacestation with the. It’s negative facial expression at everything, barely picked up anything and said it all sucks. I quit that stream mid watching and set his channel for TH-cam to never recommend it again. His channel is dead to me as a gamer and his opinions. Yeah this DLC has all its haters and more. But I’m just enjoying the game and taking my time with the new DLC.
Having now finished the main quest and most of the side quests, I would say it’s disappointing as it does not add much new (reskin weapons, versions of spacesuits and a couple of new weapons and a potential new recruit for your ship which unfortunately is one of the least interesting characters you meet) and considering the cost it’s relatively small compared to some DLC in the past which almost adds a new game! In any event it was ok. There was a nice twist in the main story and it does develop House Vu’ruun. Worth it? Maybe to some but not to others. I was really hoping for a unique ship or something. Overall glad I got it but it is pricey for what it is. Final thoughts, having had little interaction with Andreja on my current play through, will having been to her home world and been involved in all this have any impact on her dialogue and behaviour towards you? Also does it not seriously affect Andreja’s storyline? What do we think?
