  • Welcome to Happy Healthy Smiles!
    Most people are using the electric toothbrush incorrectly. Electric toothbrushes cannot be used like manual toothbrushes. To achieve the best plaque removal make sure you are using the correct technique for the sonicare toothbrush.

    Thank you for these instructions. Clear, concise and simple along with how to video during actual use. Better that several other videos I viewed. Well done! Plus, I like the feel of the 30,000-brush strokes per minute. It's like a massage.

    it's fine to move the brush manually. the 45 degree angle is important and not pressing too hard. you can also get partially between the teeth by moving the brush.

    Hello, thank you for your great video! I just bought a Sonicare toothbrush, and it’s quite difficult to get used to it. Indeed, when using the toothbrush with Sonicare App, in order to track my brushing, the app keeps saying that there are areas that aren’t brushed correctly. Even though I followed your instructions carefully ! In fact, the 2 minutes limit is too short, the toothbrush makes me change areas every 15 seconds, I need more time though.

      So glad you found my video helpful. I wouldn't worry about the timer, go at your own pace and take as long as you feel comfortable. I agree 2 minutes is short, I usually brush for 3 or 4 minutes. Sonicare takes a bit longer to get used to brushing teeth.

    Thanks for the tutorial! Going through the manual it suggests brushing with small back and forth motions so the bristles reach between the teeth. However, other videos also only indicate that tooth to tooth motion instead. As long as it is not scrubbing, would the additional manual vibrations damage the gums? Or are they not necessary at all?

    • @happyhealthysmiles7931
      @happyhealthysmiles7931  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Good question. Additional manual motion is not necessary, and yes, that may cause unnecessary damage. Let the brush do the work, slowly gliding 2 teeth at a time. 3-4 minutes is required with an electric toothbrush to completely remove plaque.

    I bought a sonicare a couple of days ago. I find it really difficult to use since my front teeth are crooked its so hard to put the brushhead on my entire tooth. Sadly i also have gum recession so its a bit terrifiying to let the brushhead close to the gums..

    • @happyhealthysmiles7931
      @happyhealthysmiles7931  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's a learning curve for using Sonicare Toothbrush. Don't give up, angle it properly, maybe use a small Toothbrush head and make sure it's soft. Take Sonicare to your dental hygienist and ask how to best use it and give you some tips. Please make sure to clean around gumline, it's where most of plaque hides. Or use Sulca Brush around gumline gently to remove plaque.
      Use brush on sensitive setting always, to prevent gum recession, and use minimum pressure. Good luck!

    • @happyhealthysmiles7931
      @happyhealthysmiles7931  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm so glad the video was helpful. Yes, brushing after each meal is safe. What is harmful is if you brush aggressively, use incorrect technique, use a hard toothbrush, or use an abrasive toothpaste daily. If you were doing any of these, even just brushing once a day would be harmful. Hope this helps.

  • @CB-vg1wq

    Dear Happy Smiles. I just purchased a sonicare toothbrush- a 7700 series. I am having a hard time using it. The brush tickles my gums, especially the front gums. I turned it to 'gum health' mode and can barely tolerate.

    • @happyhealthysmiles7931
      @happyhealthysmiles7931  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi C B, it's most likely the vibration that is causing the tickling effect. Try it different settings- try it on clean setting, make sure you are holding the handle by fingertips to prevent strong pressure- however not to light either, make sure to place it at 45-degree angle just where the gums and teeth meet, and also discuss with your dental Hygienist but I think you may need to get used to the new sensation of this brush. Give it a few weeks and see if it improves.

    • @happyhealthysmiles7931
      @happyhealthysmiles7931  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, studies show electronic toothbrushes are better. I have seen the difference with clients who use Sonic. The key is to use correct technique and at for 3min at least, also floss daily.

    • @enermaxstephens1051
      @enermaxstephens1051 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@happyhealthysmiles7931 I hate flossing, I have sensitive gums and it hurts. Often it makes my gums bleed. What if all I ever do is brush my teeth? But I use the sonic care for 3 minutes minimum. (that's typically what I do)

    • @123457474869
      @123457474869 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The thing about flossing is that if you do it often, your gums won't bleed. Everyone who doesn't floss will bleed the first several times but after about a week it shouldn't bleed anymore. One thing my dentist said once that stuck with me was "Healthy gums don't bleed." I also dislike flossing so I switched to a water flosser (Waterpik) which I like better. There's apparently air flossers as well which I haven't done any research on.

    • @enermaxstephens1051
      @enermaxstephens1051 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@123457474869 But do they work as well? I was under the impression that the floss contacts the sides of the teeth, at the base, and scrubs them. Water can knock things out of there sure. Things a toothbrush can't get. But can it scrub the base of the teeth?

    • @123457474869
      @123457474869 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@enermaxstephens1051 There's debate about that; it depends on who you ask. I've had people say it's better and others who say it's worse. I personally think it's actually worse because it doesn't get under the teeth but I still do it anyway because regular flossing is just awful.

    • @happyhealthysmiles7931

      Hi, scrubbing gums seems harsh. You must always be very gentle to avoid causing damage to your gums. Otherwise, it can lead to permanent damage . Plaque comes off very easily. You just need to be careful and slow when brushing and take at least 4 minutes to brush correctly

Tens of thousands brush strokes sounds and feels too excessive to me. You only need a few efficient strokes to clean a tooth.

    Doesn't this type of toothbrush just jam what your trying to clean between the gum and your teeth? When I sweep a floor I bring down from the hard wood floor to the vinyl, because if I go the other way, I jam the dirt underneath the reducer. I don't see this being any different, this type of toothbrush move up and down, in a sense your jamming what your trying to clean between the gum and the tooth. Where is the logic in that?

    • @happyhealthysmiles7931
      @happyhealthysmiles7931  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not quite the same as up and down movement. The brush is vibrating in very small movement and you're holding brush at a 45°angle where gums and teeth meet. I've used it myself and brush does not force plaque up in the gums if used correctly.
