I love that Tekken characters are able to understand themselves, regardless of the spoken language.
I never really liked his design in Tekken 7, felt like there was way too much going on there. I absolutely love what they’ve done here with him, he looks badass

I hope this game is good. Tekken became trash after Tekken 5, since they win multiplats it hasn't been good. Hopefully this one is.
Fun fact: Hwoarang’s T8 design was made by a former SNK artist. In context, his design makes perfect sense

Anyone who works, or used to work with SNK is legit good at character designs. 15 KoF games, and almost every one of the characters has top tier design.

though its kinda funny when they're talking to each other with each different language, yet they understand each other, lol.

It’s not consistent for everyone, Xiaoyu you only speaks Japanese rather than Mandarin.
Hwoarang's super is just like his design: simple, sleek, to the point but framed perfectly.

Dude is literally doing tatsu kicks and a downward kick. Reminds me so much of Ken's SFV critical arts except Ken's ender is he hits you in the face upwards instead of downward. Pretty dope.
Love that they basically gave him an updated and cinematic version of his SFxT Super.

They are taking a lot of inspiration from SFxT (Asuka’ and Hwo’s RA, Lili's stardust cascabel sound and the pink energy, etc)

@@ArchieGamez nah, Kim's level 3 in KoF XV is straight up ground combo rising from the ground to a somersault phoenix kick. Its the other way around with Hwoarang, he started with a knock up to Ken's Tatsumaki Senpukyaku.
I can see it in front of me already. Salt is running from lily, only to bump against Sugar. Sugar being the goofball she is, immediately starts chasing Salt back to Lily, only for her to accuse Leroy and starting the fight.

@@gcforreal Yeah I've been known that he's his master but from Tekken 3 all the way to Tekken 7 he never was this sharp and fluid with his kicks. What I'm saying is that he basically is using his master's fighting style more than he ever did

My favourite thing so far in Tekken 8 is Lenne Hardt doing the announcemer voice.
She was the voice of Pride FC and it's staggering that it took this long for someone to bring her in for a fighting game.
Funny thing is, this is not her first rodeo with Tekken. She voiced Anna back in Tekken 5, and her battle grunts are used up until now in Tekken 7.
She's also apparently the voice of Axl in Mega Man X7.... if anyone cares.

The bicycle kick is still one of the coolest things ever. The scoff in his intro with Jin too 😎
They must have had multiple designers for this game, because you get redesigns like Lili which is so minimal and then you get redesigns for Nina which are so different.
I actually prefer the simpler designs so far, but I wish they would go crazy with their 2ndary costumes

There was multiple designers. Lili has been designed by Jasmin Darnell, and Hwoarang by Hiroaki Hashimoto, for instance

Bro, so glad they did my boy justice! Looking like a clean, lean, mean, kicking machine! Hwoarang has always had a special place in my heart. The first Tekken game that I own was 4, and at the time I had been learning Taekwondo; so seeing this normal ass human rivaling Jin and beatin the shit out of angels, demons, robots and lab grown freaks with just the technique I was learning, made me instantly fall in love.
tekken writers made devil users pu$$ies for some reason since humans can beat them. If I'm the writer, I would made Kazuya and Jin kill the human pest rivals
His design reminds me a LOT of Baek now, with everything that’s happened I’m gonna assume he’s keeping the dojo going now that he’s dead

This might be my favorite design for Hwoarang yet.
Since Lili was added to Tekken I always found her to be a greatly balanced character with moves efficient to play up close, mid, and from afar, and both defensively and offensively. She is a great all around character.
Her Achilles heel is most of her key moves are quite linear, can easily be sidestepped, and very risky to land. However, when mastering her best asset, her sidestep, you can make her very evasive, whilst being offensive.
I’m happy someone mentioned the Salt the cat and Sugar the dog thing, I totally missed it, and now, we need them both interacting
Random shout out to Max's editor for working so hard to consistently put out such quality cuts from Max's gameplays!! So convenient for people like me who can't stay around for the streams. Bravo!
The man, the myth, the legend is back! Love his redesign, my favourite look yet! Hwoarang looks incredible now that he has some of Baek's moves, he even looks like a young Baek mixed with his Tekken 4 design. Hwoarang is no longer a student of the game, he's a master! Major props to the Tekken Devs, the game looks phenomenal so far 😁
I love that it feels like Hwoarang has taken on elements of Baek's character design. The gi feels more like Baek's, and his hair is tied back. 100x better than his T7 design.
it is something i noticed, in the Hwoarang intro, at 1:14, when he slams Jin to the wall, theres no facial change on Jin, no closing eyes in pain or anything
For Hworang I think that his body moves more as a whole in 8 you can really see him use his momentum! Every other game he’s had this kinda clunky action figure hip swivel on his big kicks.
I absolutely love what they did with Hwoarang! It feels like such an evolution from his Tekken 4 design. Now, he feels like a master instead of a student, taking Baek's place. And I love that he kept his cocky attitude 2:27 , 1:25 , 1:52 . Hopefully he has a story to boot.............unlike Tekken 7 character stories.
And I love Lili's design as well; minimal and fits her persona (they're could def be more changes that I'm missing). But what I really love about her is that in the trailer, some moves remind me of Asuka!
I'm a bit confused by saying Ingrid or even Athena's in the same archetype as Lili. If anything Lili's very obviously directly paralleling the Karin and Sakura rivalry (bordering on ripping off but I digress). And I don't see it as an inherently negative thing to have characters like that in a fighting game, even if it's not to your taste. But like, Ingrid was basically some celestial being without much pretense of that "ojou" energy, and Athena's just a peppy highschooler. (Ironically, closer to Sakura lol)
This is less directed at Max and just more towards that general sentiment cause I've seen it around alot lately and it kinda confuses me lol
Law and Hwoarang have always been my most used characters. He is just as badass as ever 🤩
Hwoarang now looks like a young Baek Doo San. I like the look.

Im glad they are actually making Jin and Hwoarang Tekken's Ryu and Ken again. And as for Lili, the Manon vibes with her new moves are DEFINITELY noticeable sadly since people are gonna more than likely say "Lili ripped off Manon". But Honestly I her redesign, and I am one of the few people looking forward to playing with Lili
They named Lili's cat after what Max feels seeing Lili herself.
I find the saltiness towards Lili genuinely hilarious (same goes for any other person who doesn't like Lili). 😆
She's been my main since I was in middle school. She's a long-ranged fighter and is great for low attacks, thanks to her being one of the tallest - if not THE tallest female character in the whole series.

Asuka’s rivalry with Lily is an archetype done by Capcom’s Sakura and Karin. Not Ingri. In both scenarios the characters are schoolgirls, have a rivalry and share personality traits with their counterparts. Capcom in turned was inspired by old anime and manga archetypes.

One Thing they both have Incommoded is Hwoarang is the Rival/Frenemies to Jin Kazama and Emilie De Rochefort/Lili is Asuka Kazama’s,Both have Major Improvements and upgrades compared to their Tekken 7 Look which Always a Plus,Now We Need Eddie,Julia,Anna,Yoshimitsu,Kuma,Panda,Kunimitsu,Lei,and Lee and the Circle of Tekken Trilogy would be Complete.
Honestly with the special interactions between characters and the big Red Highheel billboard on the city stage pretty much confirms Anna is coming back for Tekken 8, I just know it. I also think Lei and Julia are gonna be base also for Tekken 8. It's just a matter of when they will be revealed. I have a feeling Bryan or Bob will be the next revealed and after that it might be Alisa but who knows at this point. I also think we won't see new Characters till closer to launch to create buzz and more hype. Now this is just speculation of course

I have to say… I’m a Lili main and yet I was getting so hyped and excited while watching Hwoarang’s trailer.
So hyped that I let out a fangirl squeal from seeing them bring back the friendly rivalry between him and Jin in over 10 years. At this point, I’m convinced that T8 might have the best character development and interactions in any Tekken game.
Maybe some inspiration from SF x Tekken moves for Hwoarang.
People back then said that Lili is the Karin of Tekken. Now I see her being compared to Manon with all the elegant moves, the super, and French accent.

Thought I thought it's on record that Lili was directly inspired by Karin. Manon is definitely very similar to Lili though in terms of combat. The main difference is Manon uses more judo.

Always played Hworang as my main since tekken3, really wasn't a fan of his look in 7, I'd usually give him the training gear outfit so it's nice to see that design come back. Lili is my second favourite character to use so the fact they both look good is nice. Their moves look really good with the impact effects too, just a barrage of kicks flailing in your face, I love it
edit: Hworang's outro should just be him doing donuts around the defeated opponent while laughing mockingly

I love that Hwoarang hasn't become the Master Baek was, but he is definitely taking on more of traits of his style which explains a great deal about his slight change in composure and slightly updated use of his old and somewhat new techniques.

All the Paul Phoenix design basically is, is him without the hair gel so the hair fell down. I think it would be hilarious and I'm praying that his little mini story ark is him searching for hair gel and fighting everyone who he thinks has some and at the end he gets it and puts in on and you get the same design but with the hightop hair. But I know it's a stretch
Hwoarang's fighting style reminds me of Kim from KOF and Yang from Street Fighter.
Plus the bromance between Jin and Hwoarang is up there with Ken and Ryu, Terry and Kyo.

I love Hwoarang’s new outfit and his movesets. Especially, that finisher at the end with the flying kick combo. Love how he ends it with the spinning drop kick to head which is highly reminiscent of Sanji’s Concasser which is so badass 🔥👏

Hwoarang looks great. Clean look, style pays homage to past variations and Baek, and his animations look so much cleaner. Definitely one of the big winners coming out of the T8 revamps.

She is, Max for whatever reason associates Ingrid with Karin, Ingrid is a Magical girl flavored Shoto ala Athena, not a Rekka never stops beating you fighter like Karin or Lili

As someone who got into Tekken at T7 and mained Hwoarang because of his look, Im kinda sad lol.
That being said, that super is sick. Im sure theres been a ton of "kick them in the air and then kick down" but the pacing of it and the final framing of the big hit sells it so well.
Relax, in his custom outfits there will be his T7 one, Tekken always does this
You're same with me lol. Started playing T7, when choosing character at the select screen, I see Hwoarang and goes "Damnnnn, this guy looks cool". Now he's my main lol.
7:00 The character who doesn't look like a fighter in a fighting game. Same with Lucky Chloe just doing breakdancing, which I recently got back into Tekken a bit and found her kinda fun. Lili is more like Street Fighter's Karin in relation to Asuka being like Sakura, but Lili literally uses non-fighting moves for fighting, based on what would later be inspiration for Manon in SF6, which is ballet. Karin + Manon = Lili.
About every fighting game getting the same character, look at Street Fighter and Tekken. Aside from SF4 and VF5 both got Luchadors at the same time, both SF4 and Tekken 6 introduced a blond-American-fatass with acrobatic moves (Rufus vs Bob), which I thought was odd. While it hasn't been one-to-one in almost anything else, it just felt like they were bouncing character ideas off of each other.

Pepper is going to be Yoshimitsu's new pet, and it's a genetically revived Raptor from the prehistoric era. It's 100% on brand for him.
I just noticed that their facial expressions don't change when doing drive rushes and stage transitions like when they hit walls their is no expression showing that it hurts

We should definitely start a campaign to reach the companies that making action figures of Tekken characters, such as Storm Collectibles and we should convince them to make Hwoarang's Tekken 8 version action figure. HE LOOKS AWESOME!

Fun thing that might be relevant to him having more flair, I forget the exact dan he is (you can see it on his belt), but apparently, the rank he is at is so high that there's only approx 50-60 people at it in current day real life (according to the internet, while I love the flair of taekwondo, I never followed it). So, in a way, he grew into that flair, he's a true master now. I think he is 2 dans above his old master, Baek.
