    Martok and Worf always represented all that was good, idealistic and commendable about the Klingons and/or the Empire.
    Nicely contrasted by Duras and eventually Gowron.
    Also Martok is pretty much DS9's Epic Awesome Quirky Uncle.

    • @jamesboulger8705
      @jamesboulger8705 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Gowron was a "little" tainted by politics, K'mpec was very practical. Like any society, you have the cultural ideal, and then you have the variable reality from that ideal. We have seen that many Klingons aren't very honourable, that is just their societal expectation, but human society is this way - you think the majority of Samurai committed ritual suicide when they lost? I find Worf interesting because he spends his adolescence "book learning" Klingon culture, which makes him this kind of highly, idealized version that has to contend with the reality as an adult. He doesn't want to give up the ideals he read or learned about as a child, when you are given the candy-coated version of what your society is like.

    • @thehandoftheking3314

      Gowron was always corrupt opportunistic Targ filth, even when he gave Worf his name back it was to shore up his own support and have a voice in the ear of the Federation's foremost captain.

      @@jamesboulger8705 sepuku was only performed in instances of total defeat or shame rather than just a blanket loss. In the later form it was a powerful political tool.

    When Worf and Martok became brothers, it was more than a figure of speech. Martok deeply cares for Worf's happiness and at times acts like a big brother, giving advice about family matters. Worf had no one to go to in matters of Klingon culture. In Martok, he is given a Klingon perspective that Worf can appreciate.

    Often you might think you are opposite to your mate in personality traits, but always look deeper. The values and moral commitment that you hold often are vary alike. Even in this fictional couple, they held truth, honestly loyalty and respect high regard. They were faithful to friends and would fight for them to the death. Both were also intelligent and conversant in many areas outside their work. Worf was a poet! So no wonder they were attracted to each other even though on the surface they seemed to be unlike each other.

      Nope. Jadzia was good for Worf; she didn't abuse nor play mind tricks with him. They were just very different, because of species, character and experience.
      Having a good marriage doesn't mean being in perfect accord all the time about everything, nor a good marriage requires both partners be identical to each other, like two introverts, two artists, two French. Sometimes the best marriages happen between the proverbial opposite poles.
      Also, in this case, even if Jadzia was a Trill, she subjected herself to all the requirements a Klingon woman had to fulfill, and Worf learned to be more flexible and accepting.
      They were good to each other, and they didn't stayed married because they had no other choice.
