I can't say I've disliked any HR guest, but Jasper is simply awesome. You can tell when a guest is comfortable playing the game on camera, he may as well have always been there. Here's hoping we see Atlas pop up a few more times in the campaign!
LOVED THIS EPISODE SO MUCH!! Jasper/atlas is so cool! Tom leaning more into the pride curse from the crownsteel is awesome and OPHELIA NO! Also I loved the visual of Daisy wolfing a massive owlbear plush while Katie campaigns for her to have a way to not murder everyone lol. Rowens herald speech was also awesome!
That fight Atlas had in the tournament had to be one of the coolest fictional fights ive ever heard in a dnd game. The way he made a fool of his opponent felt like something straight out of an anime. Amazing stuff guys
Jasper was a fantastic choice for the first special guest of campaign 3. His energy and style as a roleplayer is so in line with what I'd expect from High Rollers. I want Atlas to become a permanent member of the party! Can't wait for the next episode to see how this conquest match plays out.
Those narrative battles were amazing. So much more interesting than just rolling the fight normally. Another epic bit of creative DMing from Mark that worked even better thanks to Kim and Jasper being great creative players who invested in the mechanism.
Started watching when the bg3 episodes came out, finally catched up after watching whole of Aerois, Curse of Strahd, Rogues Gambit, and lightfall: decent! Thank you! Also started DM:ing little bit after the BG3 episodes came out and have been running two groups, and it has been a blast!
Spoilers!!! I love when players actually play the characters consistently. Of course after her by her God no less she would try to give the ghost that choice. As a player you know the risks but as the character it makes perfect sense!!
Jasper was a fantastic guest! Absolutely loved every second with Atlas - I'll have to check out some of his other stuff! (After all, found HR from their guest appearances on DCA back in the day!)
I am very annoyed that I have to WAIT! What an awesome episode that is super entertaining but also incredibly informative for the GMs watching. Mark has so many little things that he does that let his players have the most fun. Also Atlas is an awesome character that just immediately fits in with the crew of The Demon Slayers.
Can use fate in ability checks, but not initiative, even though its an dexterity ability check? What could be more fate-y than having a moment of intense clarity and focus just as shit kicks off?
Daisy and her Owlbear have become that girl snuggling her $500 Mareep plush! How tall is Daisy? I know she's small, but is she more short human or tall halfling sized? Just as a reference for fan art honestly, but in a bind can she be thrown with her knives out as a siege weapon?
A thought I just had: Lightfall: I cast Heat Metal on the Paladin of the Broken Cloud. It's a gnarly sight. Altheya: I cast Heat Metal on the Dwarf. . . . .... .........
I don't like the mechanic either, when he's like ' i'm gonna spend fate to summon reinforcements i always think that it just doesn't matter as the reinforcements would still have been a part if the fate system had never been implemented. Also: mark can use fate dice on damage while the players can't. On later level it doesn't really matyer as it's just 1d6. But on low.lvl an additional d6 is quite a damage bump.
@@chanyael Keep in mind he's a DM with 5 players, he wants to challenge them as well as keep them on their toes while having fun. The players have not once complained about it. Plus, he's said this will be a tougher campaign, so them getting through the lower levels while surviving these rolls is actually important because then they've earned those levels. Not to mention, if the players could add damage it'd be busted since there's - again - FIVE of them who can use the fate any number of ways/times depending on their creativity. Mark's ONE dude. It balances it out and stops them cheesing it, especially since a few of them have ways to make damage extra anyway.
Speaking before I know anything about what happens, I hope you guys are able to bring your collective AC up because wow, it's bad. Wear some armor. Use mage armor. Grab a shield. Yikes.
@@tomhazell372 Sorc can only do so much, good on you if you remember to use it, and you use that damage reduction feature. But without having watched the episode yet, afaik your highest ac is 17, on a druid? Face tanking is a bold strategy... Rowan has enough strength for at least chainmail, he needs to get the proficiency for it asap, multiclass for it maybe. If anyone cares about him, you gotta put him in some armor. Ophelia could use a bit more, but at least barbs are made for face tanking. Guess she could use a shield or get dual wielder.
@@tarekhariri7272 Gruff is the tank, and his Wild Shape Armor of Thorns adds to his AC irrc raising his AC to 19. No problems there. Xantheus the sorcerer uses Mage Armor, but has low dex at only +1. This is mildly concerning, but only because his Charisma is slightly low at 16, meaning he'll have to bump his charisma up before he can do anything Dex related. That being said he has Rune Child damage reduction features and high Con at 18 which combined with staying at range should go a long way towards survival, if he doesn't kill himself with Crownsteel empowered spellcasting first. Ophelia has a breastplate as armor, which is 14+2 for 16 AC (better than the 14AC from unarmored defense) and dual wields a sword and whip. 16 AC is fine for a barbarian who relies on physical damage reduction and blood drinking to sustain. All good here. Daisy has good dex, not 100% on if she's got reflavored leather or studded leather or if she's just unarmored, but plays a ranged rogue with the thrown Radiant Blades from the Soulknife subclass. Proper skirmishing should and does keep her far from harms way. Rowan is a spellcaster, and should be focusing on that aspect in combat, but does engage in a gishy playstyle with the longsword he uses. This is arguably the only real "poorly built" part of the team, but its still early on and Trott may have plans for how to fix that. In the meantime, these are all veterans of D&D and know how to build and play their characters. Focus less on the powergaming playstyle they're obviously not engaging in, and enjoy the narrative and story they're weaving for us to listen to/watch.
@@tarekhariri7272or they could have fun instead of trying to optimise 🤷♂️ Mark's job as a DM is to balance combat so that it is both fun but challenging for both the players and the audience. He won't destroy them and their show because their AC is lower than average.
@@Alybobson Sure, hasn't stopped them yet. But then why bother with armor at all? It's not anti fun or power gaming to use game mechanics or have an armor class. Mark runs good combats, but what if he doesn't want to target Rowan because his AC will guarantee he dies? Rowan could pick up defensive duelist for flavor at least.

I love this campaign it feels so cozy right now. Cannot wait for things to pop off later in the campaign but I am really loving the vibe.

This episode, and the previous ones, reminds me of the movie "A knights tale". And I love that! :D
I felt like both Mark and Chris Trott used "A Knight's Tale" references in their herald speeches, and it brought a huge smile to my face!
Good to see that Chaos energy still alive and kicking from Rhi hahahaha
Jasper is so cute. I love the voice he does for Atlas.
Gruff is ROAR!
Great episode and guest guys! Actually sad that i have caught up (and finished Aerois!) oh well time to watch Curse of Strahd!
I watched live!! Can't wait for the next one !!

Anyone else wondering what would happen if someone cast heat metal on a dwarf with a large portion of their body being made of metal?
How would ophellias damage reduction work with both barbarian and dampir
