As a New Zealander I must say that the cost of living here is out of control for example petrol is $3 a litre and most of us can't afford to go out for coffee etc. We fish because it is free food and there are plenty of fish. Most of us are very kind and welcoming people, if you come to New Plymouth you are more than welcome to stay at my house. Best of luck on your adventure in NZ.

@jonsmith6982 I've lived in both Nelson and Christchurch. Nelson is much more pleasant in summer. On the 35 degree C days in Canterbury it does not cool down enough at night to sleep well. Nelson doesn't get that hot. The maximum temp there is usually mid 20s. Occasionally high 20s.

Bro, I wouldn't call the weather similar to Irish weather. NZ is in the 30s & 40s latitude south. Whilst the Southern Hemisphere is generally cooler than the Northern, it's a lot warmer and sunnier in NZ than Ireland mate. Each region of the country can be different from the rest.

To answer your question about the lemon tree
Yes it can be cold at time like in Ireland,but...................
The climate is different and lemon trees can handle the cold
We get higher temperatures in summer and the light levels are very high
The UV levels in NZ are especially high in Gisborne/Napier?Hastings.

Citrus grows well in Northern NZ .
Lemons, Limes, Grapefruit, Oranges, Mandarins along with sub tropical fruit like avocado, passion fruit , feijoa and of course Kiwi fruit
Ireland's temperature range is closer to that in the south island than the north.
I can see Glen having a go at fishing before you leave NZ he seems fascinated by the idea.

    • @kathyryder828

Meyer lemons can be grown in most parts of the South Island. Grapefruit, oranges and mandarins in the Nelson/ Tasman region and parts of Marlborough. Overall, the North Island does have a milder climate. I'm not sure if it's correct to say that the UK has a similar climate to the South Island though. It does get cold here in winter. In summer, the maximum daily temperature is often above 30 degrees C in Marlborough, Canterbury and Otago. I don't think UK summers tend to be that hot?

    • @kathyryder828
      @kathyryder828 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

It's easy to grow feijoa and passion fruit in the South Island. Also grapes, stone fruit, pip fruit (apples and pears) and berries. Most vegetables too. Tropical fruits wouldn't do well here. They probably wouldn't do well in some parts of the North Island either.

Don't take any notice of the sharks
There are always sharks around but one accidental biting in the last 50 years is nothing to think about

What are you talking about? A teenager was killed by a shark only 3 years ago at Waihi Beach. Don't you read the news?!

So good to see Glen and Mado that your bumping into true genuine kiwi's. You both are getting the true kiwi experience.
