One combo you missed is Etali in cedh (I understand why you wouldn't bring this up) You can Food Chain with Squee, the Immortal for infinite mana, then Food Chain your Etali infinite times to deck out your opponents while stealing anything you want in the process.
Don't get too down on yourself. It was a narrow-enough interaction that WOTC specifically printed a common burn spell into strixhaven that couldn't be countered. Just so they could add "this includes ward" to its reminder text lol
Yep, I remember having Void Rend in hand and playing against Miirym and getting so happy as I was like, "Wait a minute, let me see reminder text for ward again."
Fun concept I've been working on is WUBRG Omnath with Liege cards. Gives their respective colors +1/+1 to other creatures and really fun in a WUBRG deck

Omnath is also nice because you can save mana. You can make a more control'y build and keep that 2 blue mana for a counterpspell and if it's not gonna be used, you get the 2 mana for the next turn. You can also save all mana for the next turn to do big stuff early. My friend made a praetor tribal deck with omnath and seeing him activate Realmbreaker, the Invasion Tree and getting all 15 preators on board as early as turn 5 is just crazy.
For Heliod, it also makes sense to run protection enchantments like Invincibility or enchantments with totem armor, since you can get them back later if you have to recast Heliod.
So I built omnath as a 5 color multi color tribal and it was a pain to do mana base. but the deck actually ended up being alot stronger then I anticipated it being. I assumed it would be "bad" cause of the color pips being all over. But omnath does give decent card advantage even if you don't get mana
Would you mind sharing your decklist? I own an Omnath and a fan of WUBRG but I'm fairly new to MTG and it's a bit intimidating to build a 5-color deck from scratch and make it work
@Carlos Wrong honestly I don't have a list to share, but I can give some advice. For a new player best way to start is to buy the 5 color precon from dominaria or use it as template. The most important thing is to get the mana base right, so use shocks, fetches and triomes if you have them. You must be able to assemble your colors efficiently and smoothly, you won't use many basic lands maybe 10 at most. Using lands like world tree are gonna help alot even if you don't have gods in deck run the tree to help fix colors, there is also artifacts like chromatic lantern and ornery but never rely on them just make the mana base solid. Lastly when your doing the list just follow along with Josh and Jimmie for advice on ratios for the contents of deck, I found that their template on deck building while it does have things you as a player can tweak for your playstyle, they definitely broke it down much better than most videos I have seen on topic
I have successfully flipped and used Etali Primal Sickness. Being able to have 3 combats in a row also helps win the game when you have Zilortha Apex of Ikoria
Omnath is just a great color enabler for whatever theme you're trying to build. You don't even have to include black mana sources since you can rely on Omnath's mana-loss-conversion to provide splash mana.
My 2 favorites are Ayara and Rona. Been debating about a Ayara/Obush deck as well as a Rona voltron deck based around creatures that you can equip up that people dont want to block and flipping Rona and equipping with Nemesis Mask and just laugh.
The second I saw Heliod's backside I shuddered with dread at the thought of someone casting Windfall into Expropriate for 2 mana. Then into another wheel for one mana and another extra turn for 2 mana, then an X spell for 15+ also for 2 mana. The card looks like potentially one of the best wheel commanders printed. 1000% the most kill on sight commander I have seen in a hot minute. Luckily, if you kill in response to transform trigger you should be fine and it taking 7+ mana total to flip and being kinda telegraphed means you should have the foresight and opportunity to hold up the removal. So not exactly broken beyond belief, but definitely scary af.
hey the cool thing about someone killing your etali when you try to flip it is you have enough manna to recast it for the ETB next turn. its an option if you run out of blink or copy gas. "either kill it so i can recast or it kills you"
Allow me to also throw in two weird inclusions for polukranos ! If you have the bucks, Wrenn and realmbreaker is pretty great as you can protect it with your reachy bois, and her emblem allows you to endlessly recast your 0/0 hydra's. On the same page but older and weirder: Enduring renewal. It has a bunch of weird not so terrible down side BUT, it specifically sends all creatures that die on your side of the field right back to your hand, hydra storm eat your heart out.
Yes and if you put him in the 99 of a temur deck you can also pair him with displacer kitten for insane value. Its technically not infinite because you could whiff and no one top decks a noncrearure spell. Odds are with his value often you can just win the game.
Heliod also wants otherworld atlas. It's a repeatable source of draw for the entire table. You power it up early before you flip heliod. Even an atlas with 2 charge counters reduces spells by 6. The deck also ramps through artifacts so an unwinding clock goes in the deck to keep you playing spells each turn. Finally I think there is an alternate build of this deck that is artifact tribal. Where you cast your hand for free.
One super fun thing with omnath is seedborn muse. Depending on how many opponents, you can end up with triple the mana you can produce by the time you get back to your turn for absolutely free.
Seeing Combustible Gearhulk mentioned makes me happy because I remember my local playgroup being very mid about it when Kaladesh Block came around, but i saw it and immediately thought "well this HAS to go into my Rakdos, Lord of Riots deck." Plus he just looks cool lol
Etali, Primal Conqueror definitely slaps. At first I thought it was a meme to go for such iffy blink and clone effects, but when you keep casting your own spells for free it is surprisingly reliable at triggering multiple times in a row to end games. I like Sylvan Library as card draw and a way to leave clone effects on top before I know I'm going to cast Etali. Jeski's Will has also allowed me to play Etali on turn 3 multiple times (7 cards in an opponent's hand), which quickly snowballs out of control. If people aren't playing control decks, it's very hard to stop or slow down.
I've come to really like Austere Command in my Polukranos Reborn deck. If you choose "mana value 4+" and either artifacts or enchantments to blow up, you are virtually always left with the most powerful board because Polukranos and all your other hydras survive.
Every game I’ve successfully cast Etali has always been the beginning of the end for my opponents. The value is just insane. Stealing some of their best cards and getting to play mine for free is unstoppable.
I personally went Phyrexian Tribal with Omnath. I'm fairly new with a small collection but adding cards like Phyrexian Obliterator and Phyrexian Vindicator plus building around the incubate mechanic. It's a work in progress, needs some tweaking, but definitely fun to play 😁
I love the new heliod ik it might seem like a dumb idea but Im slowly gonna build a flying matters with him I like the idea plus I can throw in my heliod walking balitsta combo to win
Ive been on the fence about building her since she released but after hearing you guys talk about some of the cool shenanigans you could do ive jumped straight onto archidekt to brew an ayara deck. I love reanimator strategies and the way she can just slug people for so much damage is awesome. There are also a few ways to go infinite with her using thornbite staff which is also quite funny (i know infinite loops with the staff isnt anything new but this is the first deck of mine it will be in)
I built Omnath, Locus of All and it's okay, I built around the 3-colored pips, ended up with 35 cards of my deck reaching that requirement - which is still on average a 1 in 3. I did take a lot of the cards from the Painbow precon from Domarinia United. And for most of the removal cards I put in my deck, I preferred the ones that had multiple options, so it's not strictly removal, it can be draw instead (Esper Charm for example).. and I found an excuse to include Dark Intimidations, along with a bunch of Bolas planeswalkers Knotvine Mystic is a neat one, that one I think I'll actually put into the deck.
Been loving playing with Polukranos! I'd recommend Unbound Flourishing over Tribute, because it still gives you the option to cast 0/0s if Polu is online while DOUBLING the size of your large hydra casts. EDIT: X=0 hydras actually _will_ still die thanks to state based actions, so Tribute is a great include!
@@lonelymaw No problem, Ive been pouring over polukranos for way too much time by now. Don't forget that if you run spells that bring back 3 mana value or less creatures to the field, polukranos is also eligible and can dodge commander tax!
I built Rona mostly based on her backside but I also have the best of the front side so it's really reactionary but a lot of things that I like to do with the backside of Rona is to equip it with Nemesis mask and force people to block me or put like a quietus spike on her or to give her things that make it so people have to block me and then I just strip cards out of their hands because each individual creature that blocks is an individual source so I get to do it multiple times it's really fun
I really like Ayara and I've been building a deck around her. I have to disagree with choosing cards like Nightmare Shepherd that exile your creatures, I think these cards work against Ayara's strategy since you can no longer re-use those creatures again. Better to use cloning cards like Flameshadow Conjuring, Orthion, Hero of Lavabrink, and of course Jaxis, The Troublemaker, to create clones of the creatures and sac the clones.
With omnath you could just go straight land fall also and build up so much mana with Doubling cube, nyxbloom ancient, and throw a torment of hailfire down for 100
I actually have the new etali in the tinker time deck with gimbal is the commander and with more ways to create artifact tokens and the new etali is absolutely crazy against my pod
With Hidetsugu you can just tutor a creature with decent cmc and then cast it out of Exile to the battlefield, then sac it with ayara and then idk dredge it away from the grave or w/e reanimate it. Its digging deeper thatn one might think
From a lore perspective, sad to see you guys misunderstand Glissa. She wasn't compleated voluntarily, she was an early hero of mirrodin. She was killed and compleated when mirrodin was taken over by the Phyrexians.
a "notable note" (see what I did there?) is that Kwain says "Each player MAY draw". so if they really want to stop giving you value and they are ok with their hand, they will not draw, so you only get 1 more discount because you draw. The 5 colour Omnath is a very good charm commander, since those are 3 coloured, so you play all the charms and all that stuff. Doesn't Polukranos, Lumanous Broodmaw + a X hydra just go infinite and draw the game? Because it keeps dying and creating tokens and you can't stop the trigger Abiding Grace is so good with Polukranos. it's an enchantment thats says: at the beginning of your endstep choose 1: Gain 1 life or return target creature card with mana value 1 from your graveyard to the battlefield". so each endstep, you bring hungering hydra or Capricopian or mistcutter hydra etc. back and it ies and creates 2 tokens for you, or 8 if you have doubling season and anoided procession out. insane value. No Brimaz?

something i really like to do with Etali especially if i have molten echoes out and a hellkite courser is use my copy and bounce spells to target the hellkite instead of Etali. lets use twinflame as a basic example, if I copy Etali i get one trigger on the stack. BORING. if I target the hellkite though not only do i get a 6/5 flying hasty boy sticking around on the board until end of turn i get to put etali onto the board for one trigger and then a copy of him from molten echoes for another trigger of his ability! then i simply choose the copy to keep (also has haste YAY) venturing over to magical Christmas land is where things get interesting, imagine this with a panharmonicon... the dragon triggers 2 times, stack it right and choose the copy and you get to play Etali from command zone 2 times, each time double triggering molten echoes for 4 copies all of the 6 Etalis also double trigger for a total of 12 triggers! that is 48 cards you get to cast (assuming everyone is alive) now lets replace twinflame with Orthion, Hero of Lavabrink or Rionya, Fire Dancer to make several copies. you have just cast everyone's deck, probably already assembled some critical mass finisher but if not pass turn and simply win because no one has any cards. yes, i know the simpler way to do this is with foodchain and squee but that's just no fun
No because it comes in with a flying counter from broodmoth. It has to not have fkying the first time for her to trigger. If you bring it back a second time you can double up again since only broodmoth’s revive gives the counter.
why are we talking for 20 minutes about Ayara. Especially the front side is nothing we have not seen before with the saccing and the ways we can abuse it and use it with steal effects.
Keen Dualist is nothing like Yu-Gi-Oh!, as a matter of a fact there are no effects that reveal to top of your deck, and deal damage equal to cmc. That's not even close to how the game is played, let alone like a yugioh "like" function in anyway...
I miss when Jimmy and Josh actually seemed excited when doing these videos….Now it just seems like they are only doing it because it’s there job. Feels 95% scripted.
I'm sorry command Zone but you are wrong about Etali. You build that deck around the transform side. Sure the front side is alright, but it's the backside is where all the power is. Poison infect rip and tear
Uhhh nope. It's fine if you prefer the backside, but the front is unquestionably more powerful and easier to build around. Every time you flicker or copy him you get 4 free spells of ANY mana cost. It's powerful enough that it's entirely possible that you end the game simply by playing him once, and you are almost always going to be blinking/copying him for cheaper than his initial cost. Compare that to the backside, which requires him to not only (more than likely) survive an entire turn rotation so you can have mana again, but the transform is 9-10 mana at sorcery speed only. And your payoff for flipping him over is.... Potentially killing one single player that turn IF they can't block you. The front side needs less support and does more stuff.
I built this deck for the front side, and I have to disagree. Sure, I can ramp to play Etali and then ramp again to transform him the turn after for 9 mana if he somehow survives that long. However, even if I get that far I'm still only threatening one player with combat damage unless I have another support card in play. As others have said, do what is fun for you, but 4 free spells is very good at finding win cons. I had turn where I casted 18 spells (3 players) for free because I kept hitting my clone effects and had to stop early because Keeper of Secrets killed them before I could do more. While a small sample size, my incomplete deck (was still waiting for cards) has won 5 out of 7 games so far at my LGS. I'm considering toning it down.

i love casting that battle for free, searching for a dryad arbor then killing the battle. next turn flip Etali and just nuke someone

I built a Slobad, Iron Golem deck and a Illuminor Szeras deck. Ayara looks like a way to combine the ideas.

My Omnath plan is simple: get Omnath -> get 13 mana stored -> Realmbreaker get all Praetors -> Phyrexia wins

Well dont threat with tribute! the trigger doesnt stop your hydras from dying as the state based action happen before it! You can run both!

A cheeky Nemesis Mask and/or Pariah Shield for Rona's second side would be interesting.
I really like Ayara and I've been building a deck around her. I have to disagree with choosing cards like Nightmare Shepherd that exile your creatures, I think these cards work against Ayara's strategy since you can no longer re-use those creatures again. Better to use cloning cards like Flameshadow Conjuring, Orthion, Hero of Lavabrink, and of course Jaxis, The Troublemaker, to create clones of the creatures and sac the clones.

Absolute bank, but turning the GX transform commanders into humans does let Moonmist cheat the transform cost heavily
I have another Ayara deck, but now I want to build this one, seems less annoying at the table 😂
Dual Nature is a card I have always loved and Etali is in Green so it can be run.
With omnath you could just go straight land fall also and build up so much mana with Doubling cube, nyxbloom ancient, and throw a torment of hailfire down for 100
38:50 this one is combat only, unlike infect, ignition will deal 11 life damage

I actually have the new etali in the tinker time deck with gimbal is the commander and with more ways to create artifact tokens and the new etali is absolutely crazy against my pod

With Hidetsugu you can just tutor a creature with decent cmc and then cast it out of Exile to the battlefield, then sac it with ayara and then idk dredge it away from the grave or w/e reanimate it. Its digging deeper thatn one might think

She wasn't compleated voluntarily, she was an early hero of mirrodin. She was killed and compleated when mirrodin was taken over by the Phyrexians.
a "notable note" (see what I did there?) is that Kwain says "Each player MAY draw". so if they really want to stop giving you value and they are ok with their hand, they will not draw, so you only get 1 more discount because you draw.
The 5 colour Omnath is a very good charm commander, since those are 3 coloured, so you play all the charms and all that stuff.
Doesn't Polukranos, Lumanous Broodmaw + a X hydra just go infinite and draw the game? Because it keeps dying and creating tokens and you can't stop the trigger
Abiding Grace is so good with Polukranos. it's an enchantment thats says: at the beginning of your endstep choose 1: Gain 1 life or return target creature card with mana value 1 from your graveyard to the battlefield". so each endstep, you bring hungering hydra or Capricopian or mistcutter hydra etc. back and it ies and creates 2 tokens for you, or 8 if you have doubling season and anoided procession out. insane value.

something i really like to do with Etali especially if i have molten echoes out and a hellkite courser is use my copy and bounce spells to target the hellkite instead of Etali.
lets use twinflame as a basic example, if I copy Etali i get one trigger on the stack. BORING. if I target the hellkite though not only do i get a 6/5 flying hasty boy sticking around on the board until end of turn i get to put etali onto the board for one trigger and then a copy of him from molten echoes for another trigger of his ability! then i simply choose the copy to keep (also has haste YAY)
venturing over to magical Christmas land is where things get interesting, imagine this with a panharmonicon... the dragon triggers 2 times, stack it right and choose the copy and you get to play Etali from command zone 2 times, each time double triggering molten echoes for 4 copies all of the 6 Etalis also double trigger for a total of 12 triggers! that is 48 cards you get to cast (assuming everyone is alive) now lets replace twinflame with Orthion, Hero of Lavabrink or Rionya, Fire Dancer to make several copies. you have just cast everyone's deck, probably already assembled some critical mass finisher but if not pass turn and simply win because no one has any cards.
yes, i know the simpler way to do this is with foodchain and squee but that's just no fun

1:19:48 wouldn't broodmoth create a non optional infinite loop without an anthem or a instant speed way to remove the moth?
No because it comes in with a flying counter from broodmoth. It has to not have fkying the first time for her to trigger. If you bring it back a second time you can double up again since only broodmoth’s revive gives the counter.

why are we talking for 20 minutes about Ayara. Especially the front side is nothing we have not seen before with the saccing and the ways we can abuse it and use it with steal effects.
Keen Dualist is nothing like Yu-Gi-Oh!, as a matter of a fact there are no effects that reveal to top of your deck, and deal damage equal to cmc.
That's not even close to how the game is played, let alone like a yugioh "like" function in anyway...

I'm sorry command Zone but you are wrong about Etali. You build that deck around the transform side. Sure the front side is alright, but it's the backside is where all the power is. Poison infect rip and tear
The front is massive card advantage (4 for 1) which, especially in Commander, is far more powerful than being a big beater.
Uhhh nope. It's fine if you prefer the backside, but the front is unquestionably more powerful and easier to build around.
Every time you flicker or copy him you get 4 free spells of ANY mana cost. It's powerful enough that it's entirely possible that you end the game simply by playing him once, and you are almost always going to be blinking/copying him for cheaper than his initial cost.
Compare that to the backside, which requires him to not only (more than likely) survive an entire turn rotation so you can have mana again, but the transform is 9-10 mana at sorcery speed only. And your payoff for flipping him over is.... Potentially killing one single player that turn IF they can't block you.
The front side needs less support and does more stuff.
I built this deck for the front side, and I have to disagree. Sure, I can ramp to play Etali and then ramp again to transform him the turn after for 9 mana if he somehow survives that long. However, even if I get that far I'm still only threatening one player with combat damage unless I have another support card in play. As others have said, do what is fun for you, but 4 free spells is very good at finding win cons.
I had turn where I casted 18 spells (3 players) for free because I kept hitting my clone effects and had to stop early because Keeper of Secrets killed them before I could do more. While a small sample size, my incomplete deck (was still waiting for cards) has won 5 out of 7 games so far at my LGS. I'm considering toning it down.
