He left villa when we were 17th and emery with the exact same of players finished 7th. Just from a long line of great players i.e ince. Keane. Robson who were inadequate managers
Gerrard was one of the worst managers in Aston Villa history and we’ve had a load of terrible managers he has found his level in the Saudi pro league
Gerrard got far too much inflated credit for stopping Celtic winning 10 in a row because Celtic were so unbelievably bad that season you couldn’t make it up! Tavernier(pen) even admitted in Rangers match day program that the team struggled with the fans on their back so that season they won the league was Covid and they didn’t have any fans in attendance but Celtics season that year couldn’t have gotten any worse it was worse than the year we Had John Barnes as Manager and Kenny Dalglish had to take over to try and salvage something which he did with the league cup success. Gerrard and Lampard are so alike it’s uncanny, both fantastic for players, both terrible managers riding the crest of their massively successful football careers into their management career and both being undoubtedly found out as failures
He will get another PL job because he's a big name, not based on him as a manager
He’s a great man but he was an embarrassment at villa and will struggle to get another premier league job.
Gerrard is the worst manager in Villa’s history and we’ve had some shockers in my time.
I’m sorry but blaming injuries for Gerrard’s failure at Villa is a pathetic and deluded excuse.
Emery has us 5th in the league this season and we’re missing 4 big players due to long term injuries who were all starters last season in Mings, Buendia, Moreno and Ramsey.

Unlucky at Villa? I had the displeasure of paying to watch Gerrard’s Villa and we were awful. The players looked utterly clueless. For a man with meticulous planning his Villa team had no idea what they were doing. He had a seasons worth of games and 4th bottom is where we’d have been, Emery has had the same and we’d be third. Any club that employs Gerrard is chasing relegation. Worse than Steve Bruce and that’s an achievement.
the thing he lacks is the ability to work with players who are not what he was. so they need simpler instructions, he went at them with styles and tactics that just got lost on them.
You mean the same players that were perfectly capable of taking onboard the tactical instructions that Unai Emery gave them? The same players that then embraced the coaching style of a manager and in the last 12 months have won more points than anyone except Arsenal and Man City?
That’s an excuse people use to explain away the fact that Gerrard is a shockingly bad manager. The evidence suggests that the players are more than capable, Gerrard isn’t.

Not the first time a new manager has flopped though. He won rangers their first league title in 10 yrs stopping Celtic from winning 10 league titles back to back. And first season at villa was decent. So I think he will get another opportunity.

Gerrard was my favourite player growing up so I don’t like saying this but as a manager he was the worst I’ve seen down villa park. He was so so so bad. Anyone wants to take this man on I feel for because the relationship won’t last long
I really like Mcallister seems like a top bloke but I’m afraid he’s wrong about his mate Steven Gerard. Football is a squad game and every team gets injuries it’s why you have a squad. It’s up to the manager and his back room staff to make sure that all players are ready to step up when their opportunity arises. Unai Emery has had similar serious injuries problems…..Buendia, Mings, Moreno, Ramsey and still manages to get performances from his squad without feeling the need to use excuses to blame on poor performances. Not all great players make great managers and for me Steven Gerard falls into that bracket. I have no doubt he’ll be offered another premier league job at some point because it’s Steven Gerard!! Be warned though, Villa fans couldn’t wait to get him out of the club in the end and now we have a proper elite manager at the helm showing Gerard how it is really done.

Sorry, but he is looking through his time at Villa thru rose tinted glasses. Gerrard was out of his depth, Beale seemed to commend a lot of authority which Gerrard was happy to hand off to him. And what we eventually realised is that he isn't a good man manager, ruffled feathers when he didn't have to and he wasn't great at inspiring the players, nor was he a particularly good in-game tactican.
When Emery arrived he had the same issues Gerrard had in his first 6 months and he took them from 17th to 7th. He stopped the rot with each player who had their heads down and he turned that around too.
Gerrard needs experience, I hope he gets it only then can you really judge his managerial skills.

Mcallister like many other English pundits sticking up for an English manager but they are so far off that Gerrard just had an “unlucky” time at villa he was an awful manager he had zero tactics each game we had no game plan and players had no desire to win through his style of football he broke down the fan base with taking captaincy of Tyrone mings at the very start and making comments such as when we played Chelsea “they should be beating us” that isn’t a manger I want managing my football club Uni emery has had the same players expect a few signings over the summer as what Gerrard had and every single player has improved they look fantastic through a elite coach.

His man-management skills were useless and he did no coaching ….he wasted millions on Coutinho, he never found a system or pattern of play and all he had to offer was “” we’ll have to work harder”…..he never explained working harder at what….
