    Just bought my neighbors 1988 GL1500 that’s only got 33K miles...bought off him for $1,000. I’m hooked on GoldWings now! Everything works-runs like a dream! Thank you for all you do, sir. Really appreciate you sharing the knowledge.

    First Clifford, I just gotta say there are not a lot of folks out there that will take the time to make a video when they are taking something apart. Just the effort of shooting, narrating, editing, and posting is a lot. But you Cliff, YOU shoot a 20 minute video of tearing all the plastics off this beast to get to an air filter THAT YOU DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO CHANGE!!!
    Wow.
    Second, I just rode home my first Goldwing! 1997 GL1500 w/ 28k. 28K, and I don't think the guy ever washed it or did much of anything but put gas in and turn the throttle. So me being the kind of guy I am, need to change oil and oil filter right away. Figgured I should do the plugs too. What the heck - might as well do the air filter while I am at it, right? So with the daunting amount of brittle plastics all over this thing, time to hit the tubes and see if anyone made a video of how to change the oil and filter. Bam! Cliffs video on how to change oil and e filter. Plugs? BAM! Cliffs got a perfect, detailed vid for that, too. Dude even shows you how to PUT IT BACK TOGETHER AGAIN! OMFG. NO ONE DOES THAT!
    OK, So where the H E double hockey sticks is the flippin air filter on this beast? BAM! Here I am!
    Cliff.... Thanks, Man! I owe you beer!

    Good lord man you did all that work and it didn't even need a new filter lol. You must really enjoy these videos. Thanks for it though. This is probably the hardest air filter change on any motorcycle ever.

    Hey Cliff. I love your videos bruh. I just got a Honda GL1500 Trike conversion that's been sitting in a friends' garage for two years and wouldn't idle without full choke on. I figured I'd replace all the old fluids, filters, spark plugs, and clean the carbs out. If I were lucky, I wouldn't have to do a carb rebuild. I've owned a lot of bikes, but the biggest was a Honda CB750. Getting to anything on that bike was easy peasy. Not so much on this one. I tried to follow the factory manual at first but quickly gave up. I watched three of your videos and managed to get everything done with a few glitches here and there. Like dropping one the 10mm bolts that hold the center console into the engine compartment. I had to pull the battery and battery housing out to find that sucker. Anywhoo, I did all the work, shot some carb cleaner into both carbs with the bike running, put some seafoam into the gas tank and voila, its idling at 800 rpm with no choke. Riding a trike is nothing like a motorcycle though; it takes some getting used to. Still, with the quarantine, I've been working at home with my wife and two young boys and now I have an excuse to get out of dodge every once in a while :) Thanks again for your help. Your videos are very informative and entertaining without that TH-cam "lemme tell you how its done" attitude. I also love seeing your cat run across the frame every once in a while. Take care!

    Clifford have watched your videos and gained a lot of knowledge about Goldwings. I have a 96 Goldwing trike. It ran hot and lost coolant about three years ago. Finding no one to repair, I tackled it myself. The coolant leak occurred next to the thermostat, a small plastic piece with 3 hose connections. A real job, but finally repaired, put back together, filled with water and ran for half hour to make sure no leaks. Filled with antifreeze and ran again. I had drained the gas tank prior and filled with fresh gas and Seafoam. After all that, I started to put back together, new plugs, air filter, oil change etc. Now it does not pick up gas from tank. I tried to take apart the Control Module, but only pulled apart with wires exposed not terminals, so was unable to short across to see if pump was working. New filter is not filling, tried removing to see if pumping to no avail. Motor runs if I pour fuel into carbs, but just won't pick up. My thought is fuel pump, but wondering if you had any other ideas. Might it be the screen at bottom of fuel pump? Any other suggestions?
    I watch all your videos and you are doing an excellent job of keeping us informed. Keep up the good work.

    Because I bought a used goldwing trike I wanted to check the air filter to see if it needed to be cleaned or replace so I took everything apart just to find out the air filter was literally brand new and when I put everything back together I notice the dash clock stayed on when I turned the key off. Later I unhooked the negative on the battery and reconnected it and thankfully that fixed the issue and saved me from panic or another teardown.

I changed the gas filter, oil and oil filter and spark plugs ( used NGK ). I subscribed hope to learn more. Next project changing out speakers, these are old and dry rotten. Hope to see something on this in the future

    A really good move to prevent mice from getting into your air filter system is to put a copper screen over the intake end of that air tube on the front of the air filter housing.

    I remember my old 750 Suzuki. You flip open the seat and there is the battery under the tool box. You pull off the side cover and pull out the air filter. If your battery was dead you used the kick starter. Simple. Easy to fix. My 1500, not so much. Love the bike but servicing is a pain and it could have been done better. My other pet peave is the cheap, tiny plastic supports the hold the passenger pocket doors on. Honda KNOWS they will break. They should have been re-enforced. On the other hand my last trip was 6000 miles trhough rain and frost and I never got cold. I prefer it over the new ones. They knew how to make a bike that would take you across the continent. Now they are more of a sport tourer.

    I like my 1500 but its ridiculous what it takes for something as simple as replacing an air filter. My Suzuki was a matter of swinging open the seat with a key turn and changing the filter. My Kawasaki was not much harder. Its something that is done repetitively so you would think Honda would consider that. You have to remove the side covers to check the oil and they do tend to break easily as well. Helpful video.

    • @riderretired5258
      @riderretired5258 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Honda did give it a lot of consideration. They said, lets see, if we make it easy, we will sell a filter and make $6.00 profit to the dealer. But if we make it very difficult, and take our time being very very careful (yea right) we can get about 3 hours labor book time, finish it in 30 min and be $280 net to the dealership. Very considerate for the dealership for sure.

    There is no need to remove the connectors from the radio, the radio cover sits aside and you can easily access the filter housing.

    You don't have to disconnect the wires to to the radio, just lay it over.

      Live hand grenade honestly it's best to have it out of the way. Less the risk of damaging anything.

    • @ababbit7461
      @ababbit7461 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe just disconnect the negative battery wire? No more live hand grenade. But, then again, it is more work so you gain nothing. Keep it all on top, makes life easier.... Good videos!
