Followed Matt for over a year now, my handicap has gone from 9 to 5 and recently shot 71! I am 69 years old never had a golf lesson in my life, Matt has a way of instruction that is entertaining but very effective! top guy!
I’ve been a scratch player my whole life and I’ve watched a lot of TH-cam channels. No one comes close to Matt’s “knowledge” of the game nor his innate ability to share said knowledge. If you’ve found this channel you’ve found your “home” to further your game over time. Well done.
I have always considered my game centered around hybrids. I started golf playing with 8 compact Stan Thompson laminated maple woods in my bag then switch to the Orlimar IRS 4-pw then to a Thomas Golf at725 3-gw set. Broke down and was fitted several years ago with a so called conventional set of Driver, Fairway, Hybrid, and Irons. Hitting the hybrid felt natural. So did some research and found Bang Golf which makes a 13 piece all hybrid set 12°-61°. Yes!!! Within the next few weeks I should be playing with all my hybrids and favorite putter once again.
I'm a senior and have always hit my #3-5 hybrids well, and so switched to Touredge HL4 hybrid iron-wood set. I have found that I revert to hitting these like irons, (hitting down). When I remember to start with ball in the middle of my stance and hit like my hybrids and fairways, I make better contact. Any thoughts on these new clubs, like the Touredge HL's and Cleveland Launchers? Great video and I will concentrate on this now. Thanks!
I think Matt is one of the few people that i would pay for private lessons. The dude just has a knack for helping relate things in an understandable way
Great video and content , I was told to swing down with hybrids and woods after seeing this I will brush the ground with the sole of the club and position ball slightly forward of center
Shallowing out the downswing will help me. After so many helpful videos I forgot some of the basics of the swing. Hogan talked about, like using the inside muscles of the legs and arms. I decided to let my swing trigger initiate the tightening of the inside muscles.
Matt it is. Nice to meet you. When you execute the short shot can you show more of the weight shift and timing. Do you feel a strong lean on your lead foot that is synced with club pulled back? Does weight on front foot increase as club goes back? I feel it goes from mild 60% on lead and then increases to 80. So when you say 70% is that the average ? Thanks again. Love your stuff
Matt this was such a well done instructional video! I absolutely hate having to rely on my hybrid for 200+ shots. Hope this eases those worries with some practice.
It’s important to recognize the difference between “feel” and reality though. I say this because I have been guilty of going to far and turning feel into over exaggerating a movement
I believe to get the feel we MUST EXAGGERATE the motion too far to get the feel. Feeling the opposite helps us get there. Thats key to what this brilliant man is doing. His emphasis on feeling the extreme works. Of course your results will inform finding the middle.
You hit on my biggest pet peeve, self claimed experts overusing ancient phrases! When I didn't know anything about golf, I hit it fairly long but had a terrible slice. I messed with my grip until I hit straight or had a slight fade. Then the Golf Channel started, with its many instructors, all saying "hit down on the ball!" I worked very hard to start taking a divot, and did I ever start taking a divot! Damn those old axioms!!!
Another great video. Would flattening out the backswing help swing through the ball and avoid coming down into the ball help??? I find it hard to correct my swing into the ball on the way down difficult. I too have followed instruction saying that you should hit down on the ball and this is not working at all.
Another great one! Thanks Matt. I am storing notes on my iPhone so that when I am out playing or on the range practicing , all I have to do is look at your quick tips for the shot I need! Used your bunker and chipping tips at the range yesterday and they worked great! You are the man and I really appreciate your channel!
I like it I like it...I may have to watch this a lot more...just got a new hybrid..which I had a horrible time with..I must say I love this channel... it short and sweet...👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Good advice. I brush my hybrids along the ground just as you instructed. Same thing I do with my woods as well. Only thing I would add is saying to place the tee way down so it matches up with the brushing of the ground with the club. Perhaps it goes without saying. or maybe I missed you saying it. :) Great video. I like it.
I tried one of those Wilson staff fybrids. It is a 27 degree 5h. Easiest club I ever hit. I was literally hitting the 175 flag back to back to back to back. Half a bucket at the range. Needless to say it ended up in my bag. And kicked out my Five wood.
I hope this will help me since I bought 3 Hybrid to try and replace my 3 iron which I was having problems hitting!! I hope sometime in March the weather will be better here in Germany to get out to the course or range!!
@@brett9905 I agree but since I don't get that many opportunities to play I would like to enjoy it more than rather to freeze my butt off or hands lol!! We had a couple days last month that were pretty warm but I had to work!!
@@ZaxDrumsGolfandMore Hands are the killer. Keep them warm and it's all good. I can't go a whole winter without playing so if it's not raining and the temp is above zero I normally use any opportunity I have. Good luck with your golf and the new hybrid!!

@@ZaxDrumsGolfandMore No, not playing today, though in the Berlin area the winds haven't arrived yet. Never had a 3 iron but do play a 3 hybrid, which works well sometimes but not always. Hoping Mr Short Game's tips will do the trick!
I just started playing and I have an odd situation/problem. I can hit woods and 4h long and straight, but the minute I grab my driver it's a game of roulette. but for the drives that I get straight they're 300+ carry, I did find going up in grip size helps alot , but thinking I'm in a griping run from spending past few months with an extremely strong grip to stop slice/ boomerang shots
I agree. Hit hybrids like irons and you will rarely hook them. The more fade like iron swing, the better. Mental and physical setup should be ”low fade”. 😉
I started hitting my 3 Hybrid well by using the sole of the club.. Almost like a slap shot in hockey. I smack the sole into the ground... Seems to work
I have a 3 hybrid, 4 hybrid and a 5 hybrid. The 5 is my most favourite club in my entire bag, I pure it almost every shot with a beautiful ballistic trajectory. If I’m having a bad day I just go for the 5 hybrid. But when I go to the 3 hybrid, it’s the complete opposite, I can’t hit a decent shot. They're terrible, usually topped or under powered 🤷♂️
I have an older hybrid, it's, a heavy headed hybrid. When I'm hitting it well, it feels like the weight falls into my downswing. Then I just swing easy and follow through
Okay okay well when I'm really focused for five holes somewhere along the line there is one hole that I will not focus on it makes a chain effect so I need to figure out how to stay focused even though I have other guys that are trying to harass me is it possible you can explain to me what I need to do
Can't stop hooking my new 4 Hybrid. My strike feels great. But, the ball hooks well to the left. It needs a lot of work. My 4Iron is way more accurate, and I'll stick with it on the course.
I got a 16 deg #2 hybrid from ebay to replace my 3 wood that iwas basically useless to me. Took it to the range and could not hit it to save my life. Then i compared the length of the shaft to my driver and my other clubs and realized how long it was. Started to swing it shallow like my driver. Was ripping balls 200 yards!
I'm no expert on hybrids but tried a few and found one I really love. It's an older Callaway Diablo Edge. Absolutely long and straight every shot with little effort. What I like best is it's easy to get a range of distances with these clubs.
Hey bub just because a club fits you it might be a disaster for another, I like the old taylormade mid rescued with graphite shafts, but you might hate em.
I just love this because my game is improving now. May I ask your name kind sir. There are people out their charging for giving half the quality. I really appreciate all you give. How do you make money😎
Thanks Matt! Great tips on the hybrid. I've been working on flattening out the driver swing last year and wow, what a difference--straighter and longer! I also have trouble hooking the 5 wood and hybrid so I'll work on your tips (once the snow melts 😃). I see that small head on the hybrid and my first thought is to dig! I'll work on these tips soon, and keep up the good videos!
That was a beautiful hit man!! I made one like that on my approach to the green and got the par..Then the next whole hit my driver wright in the water..Best game EVER!

Is there any relation between the flex of the shaft with the tendencies hook or slice ?

Important to shallow the club when hitting hybrids. After the backswing, I let the club drop naturally and then accelerate later in the swing.
