FIX: PS 3 Randomly Shuts Off & Red Light Blinking (PlayStation3 Overheating Fix)

- Hello TH-cam, and Sony PlayStation owners. Recently, somebody brought in his PS3 to our shop. The main problem was unexpected shutdown, and the blinking red LED light. This gaming console actually worked okay, but it was turning off itself randomly. After a Google search, I've realized that this PS3 was overheating and then when it reaches the maximum temperature, it did shut off to protect the PS3 from burning. If you have a similar problem like this one, try this. Let's go ahead and fix the overheating problem on Sony PlayStation 3!

That's overkill on the amount of thermal paste used, you only need half of that
Not on ps3. Mine kept overheating until I put just about that much on so it covered the whole plate on each one. It's because the ram is also underneath and will overheat if you don't get a good layer over the entire thing.

@@jay3d615 if you mix it with vaseline it works but only with low heat producing procesors. Its not gonna work on ps3
Well, is there any other issues regarding the red light? I did clean the console itself inside and replaced the thermal paste, and it still wont turn on? Any guess?
I think the red light represents a general issue on PS. Problem could be something else.. it could be your hard drive or maybe you need to reflow the motherboard. In my case, it was working and shutting off due to an overheating.
Typically, when PS3 does not turn on with the red light, people try reflowing the CPU and the GPU on the motherboard with a hot air gun.
Did you get it resolved? In my case, this PS3 was a replacement direct from Sony years ago and still has this red light issue. I'm hoping it's just a HDD problem. Honestly, there shouldn't be any dust inside this thing lol.

Mine only does it when trying to play a game,i used it for Netflix Saturday and it never shut off....but it is my first time using it for years
sounds like an overheating issue. When the system requires more power, that's the moment when your CPU and GPU get hotter, then when it reaches the maximum operating temperature, it shuts down the system to protect the processors from burning.

i opened mine up and now when i put it back together it doesnt stay on for more than 10 seconds before it turns off

I just noticed this problem with my ps3 but I only get this problem with Killzone 2, any other game has worked fine in the past. PS3 also doesn't feel hot, not even just warm.
why don't you just try to uninstall the game and re-install? Try it.

That's a hdd issue. Either delete the file, format the system, or replace. I put an ssd in mine and it made the system so much better and faster

Well.... glad I started reading comments half way through, I think this will work better if I just take the brake cleaner to it then let it all evaporate and while that's happening I'll go start a fire in the back, come back in and do a secondary cleaning with more brake cleaner, while it's still in the evaporation stage I'll run outside while it's still wet, then huck it in the fire and watch it burn baby burn, RIP PS3🫡. No more pain 4 u .😅

I think the solid red light represents a general error on ps3. It could be the hard drive, motherboard or something else. Hard to say which. Typically, a hard drive issue or a motherboard needs to be reflowed but you will need to find out what is wrong with it.

i tryed thermal paste did not work on my at all what else do i do if i hafve too solder any thing well f this ps3 phat i own i just emulate the games with rpcs3 emulator.
at least the games i want too try are playable .
In some cases, you need to reflow those processors with a hot air. For that, you should look for a PS3 reflow video on TH-cam

Does your PS turns on? or is it always blinking red? I think the solid red light indicates other errors on PS3 like hard drive problems.
It is flashing it did turn on 4 a bit but then went back 2 flashing red do u think it's worth trying again maby I did not hear the mother board up enough

My PS3 is doing the same thing yours did. The red l>ght blinks and it turns on for a few seconds then shuts off. It lets me put a cd disc in but shuts off afterwards, so basically do what you did in this video and it will work again?? What was that glue that you put on those squares???
This will not guarantee to fix all the red light blinking issue because sometimes, the red light led come on when you have a bad hard drive. In my case, it was overheating.

Never wash electronics with water. You will damage it. You can use 99% alcohol for cleanup.

A thermal compound. Arctic silver thermal compound is good
