Thanks bro. I will go back to China this June. Ibadan to Kano and Abuja rail just started, later will be 7 hours train journey from Lagos to Abuja. Airline company will not be happy LOL
We had this years ago. It was lack of maintenance that killed it just like everything else in Nigeria. We had a railway service that was being manned and maintained by Nigerians.
Fences are needed around that train tracks. It’s not good sign peoples are selling close to the track and walking on them. The authorities need to take urgent action to stop this happening.
A very nice modern railway line. Congratulations to engineers and builders. But it would be useful to secure the tracks in the city of lagos with a fence so that the inhabitants would not walk on the tracks and even put tents on these tracks. By the way, this train travels quite slowly on these tracks. It seems to me that on these tracks it would be possible to go 80 km per hour and the camera looks like he would go 40 km per hour. Greetings from Poland.
Yes, in the public areas like markets, they need to do better about not throwing trash just anywhere. The government needs to provide trash bins, and levy fines on people who litter. But did you see how they kept their front yards clean of debris in the villages? They keep their own front yards clean, and throw the trash somewhere else. In some sections of the video, you can see the trash piling up on the other side of the rail lines, but the houses have clean front yards.
Storm water gutters on both sides of track choked with trash and dirt piles. This will greatly reduce life of tracks. Nigeria must act if it wants to protect this asset otherwise it will go the way of other projects in Nigeria.
Do you expect it to be anything different in a shithole like Nigeria? Or any other place in that region/continent? Of course it will reduce the track service life. Just like the life of other components will get reduced due to lack of maintenance and outright stealing. Always has been the case and always will be.
Great footage and an excellent way of promoting the initiative. I'm curious to know, are there future plans to have indigenes trained in main /critical positions as drivers, onboard technicians etc. and not just as support crew only? Thanks.
Interesting video. But, is this an inspector train? Because I only see it stopped 2 times (1:05 Papalanto and 1:32 Abeokuta) and the last station. Also, the speed around 60 km/h I guess?
I wonder if crowds on tracks can be suppressed with higher frequency of trains. Signal-blocking to allow this might be too expensive, well, more expensive than fences :/
They should just build wired fences on the Lagos part of the railway and have a guard or two for the level crossings. No need for automatic crossings, manual ones are good enough.
Thought it was strange that the train moved over to the left hand rail. Couple of minutes later it became clear why when there was a market on the line!!!
China followed the British/Japanese system when the national railway is integrated after the second world war, and national railways has been on the left following this. On the other hand, the road traffic and metro system followed the continental standard of driving on right.
May I ask, when will Nigerians be piloting the trains? Is there a training program and\or timeline for when Nigeria runs this system all by themselves? Thanks
Nigeria is a multi-ethnic, loosely assimilated country. How does this compare to a more mono-ethnic (or at least majority ruled) and firmly regulated country like China in terms of efficiency? Do the Chinese suffer any frustrations?
The track condition appears to be able to support much higher speeds than these, yet it needs to be isolated from pedestrians, it needs to have high fences on either side so none is trespassing instead of this situation where the track isused as a walking treks or even marketplaces.
Sure, you can definitely do it. They have done it in Morocco. First you need to electrify the railroad, and probably rebuilt large part of the bridges over the railroad, to fit the catenary line. Than you have to replace ALL the tracks and the ballast that have to comply to high speed specifications. If the railroad passes over rivers and roads, all the viaducts must be checked to comply to high speed specifications. All the line MUST be fenced, and ALL the level crossings must be removed and replaced by road tunnels. You have to review all the platforms and finally you can buy the high speed trains and train the drivers. This is of course a short list. But it's viable, spending many billions in US$ .
Thanks so much for this video which is I guess the first high quality cab ride in Africa on YT ! Just a question coming to me: Are you working on the design of this railway ? A lot of work seems to stay in progress by seeing this video. First of all the stations, but also signaling (I didn't see any signal on the track side), switches motorisation, only one line in service etc... Is the line opened to trafic, or is it just some tests on the tracks you had the chance to assist ?
I work for sub contractors just managed to get into the cab view. It’s still under construction. Signal system will be done by June or July. After that full operation on both line. Thanks for watching
Hi! Very nice video, congrats!! I asume you are part of the railway developing team? Why is it so slow? 50km in 1 hour is extremely long. Hope it is because pf testings. Cheers from Chile!!
I work for one sub contractor company. The train design speed is 160kmh max, planned operation speed 120kmh. But because too much people walking on the track in the city, they had to reduce the speed to about 40 sometimes
the railway is good but the only missing thing here is a fence. also those footbridges that crosses the railways it doesn't have safety measures any one can jump out of it.
Nigerian railway is like Indian railways in the 70s. When will they electrify the routes? Any plan for high speed railway in Nigeria soon? Love the video 😀
Electrified railway need stable power supply, long way to go. Nigeria is not short of oil and gas, FG could build more power plants and upgrade the grid. Thanks for watching!
I managed to do 40 years as a train driver in UK without ever being involved in a single fatality... now happily retired... I wonder how many victims of death by train you get in a week??? Looks like a very well built piece of railway, but I wonder how long the copper cables needed for the signalling system will last before it gets stolen, or even if the signalling system will ever get installed due to these thefts...
The driver is doing his best to make sure people don't walk in front of the train. There's not anything he can do about people who deliberately jump in front, though.
@@paullangford8179 That's right. I'm so concerned about that behavior. I see it as the condition of Jakarta in the early 21st century. For me, the true solutions are making separator beside rail track and overpass bridge for people (Jembatan Penyeberangan Orang).

We had this years ago. It was lack of maintenance that killed it just like everything else in Nigeria. We had a railway service that was being manned and maintained by Nigerians.
Maintenance and governance
Fences are needed around that train tracks. It’s not good sign peoples are selling close to the track and walking on them. The authorities need to take urgent action to stop this happening.
Under considerations...
It's called the conductor not the driver! Nice video.
I can clearly hear the communication voice of Chinese driver. Good job
This is fantastic!
The train experience is great. Give it a try!
Fantastic Fantastico
Thanks
Thank you guys those are great videos
Will update more
From this video I learnt that train is faster than car in Lagos thanks to traffic,
Nigerians have no fear, they don't use waste bins.
This train max speed 150KMH.
Iddo to Oshodi in 10 Minutes. this i only achievable by flying... amazing, you cant cover that in 10 minutes on a public holiday.
While we blame the wrong behaved people, I do have challenge to throw the garbage in VI Lagos. There is no dust bin on street
Amazing content!
Thank you! ♥️
Are also part of the Lagos Blue and red line project?
Storm water gutters on both sides of track choked with trash and dirt piles. This will greatly reduce life of tracks. Nigeria must act if it wants to protect this asset otherwise it will go the way of other projects in Nigeria.
Thieves stole many gears from the track. Train need to stop sometimes to repair
Do you expect it to be anything different in a shithole like Nigeria? Or any other place in that region/continent? Of course it will reduce the track service life. Just like the life of other components will get reduced due to lack of maintenance and outright stealing. Always has been the case and always will be.
Back in the days at pen cinema you go hear “iku nbo ooo”.... lol
Good vid. Fence, barriers, level crossing & bridge now!!! I develope headache watching the video. Goodness me
LOL, too much horn blowing I know what you mean
Nice to see how the natives live
Very real uncut footage
Government really should build fence in these highly populated areas
Great footage and an excellent way of promoting the initiative.
I'm curious to know, are there future plans to have indigenes trained in main /critical positions as drivers, onboard technicians etc. and not just as support crew only?
Thanks.
Of course, drivers are trained now. Will take over whenever they are ready. This will also make more sense since hiring foreigner is more expensive
Interesting video.
But, is this an inspector train? Because I only see it stopped 2 times (1:05 Papalanto and 1:32 Abeokuta) and the last station.
Also, the speed around 60 km/h I guess?
Trail operation, carry passengers. Max speed 80kmh later will be 120kmh
China is transforming Africa! Bravo 👏👏👏👌👌👌
Thanks! Both benefiting
I wonder if crowds on tracks can be suppressed with higher frequency of trains. Signal-blocking to allow this might be too expensive, well, more expensive than fences :/
They should just build wired fences on the Lagos part of the railway and have a guard or two for the level crossings. No need for automatic crossings, manual ones are good enough.
excelente
Thanks for watching
Incredible ... you can't believe it if you haven't seen it. Especially the firt part . Comparable to the german ice on the frankfurt-cologne route.
Yeah if the ICE could only travel at 30kph maybe.
That poor driver must be deaf from blowing the horn so much oh my goodness....
To save lives LOL worth it
😂😂😂
it's only a matter of time before some stubborn people are crushed to death by the rail, they should be chased away from selling near the rail tracks.
There supposed to be fence blocking people away from the rail lines. That nis how developed countries protect their citizens from dangers
Thought it was strange that the train moved over to the left hand rail. Couple of minutes later it became clear why when there was a market on the line!!!
On 20th March there will be train on both side. There will be no vendors soon
China followed the British/Japanese system when the national railway is integrated after the second world war, and national railways has been on the left following this. On the other hand, the road traffic and metro system followed the continental standard of driving on right.
Thanks
LieutZhuNG are you at the Lagos Ibadan railway commercial Operation today??
No in the office, what a pity
@@LieutZhuNG Buhari was in lagos with the Chinese engineers to commission the railway
Please i like to get an update on the Lagos - kano rail ? IS there any construction going on
I just know that signed the memorandum, supposed to start in 2020 but delayed due to Pandemic
@@LieutZhuNG Ok
When does work begins on Lagos- Calabar railway project begins
Not much detail on that project
Sorry I really do not have idea on that.
🗿they are literally forgetting the eastern states😒😒
Could you please film again on a rainy day? That would be wonderful, hearing to sound or rain and thunder and the tracks.
Please.
Thanks I will try but not sure the driver will let me in the cockpit again since it’s now formal operation
May I ask, when will Nigerians be piloting the trains?
Is there a training program and\or timeline for when Nigeria runs this system all by themselves?
Thanks
Yes Nigerian train drivers are under training. But system will run by Chinese for 3 years before handover
Please no
@@LieutZhuNG please no
@@Sharon_McCluskey You don't want a handover? lol
@@Sharon_McCluskey ugly Sharon what business of yours is it if Nigerians are being trained to operate the train? Silly imp.
I think this train did not go pass 50km/hr. Or did it ?
Nigeria is a multi-ethnic, loosely assimilated country. How does this compare to a more mono-ethnic (or at least majority ruled) and firmly regulated country like China in terms of efficiency?
Do the Chinese suffer any frustrations?
The track condition appears to be able to support much higher speeds than these, yet it needs to be isolated from pedestrians, it needs to have high fences on either side so none is trespassing instead of this situation where the track isused as a walking treks or even marketplaces.
People seating on the railway. This is madness!
LOL, basically the rail is a market
What is the maximum speed achieved on this line?
Now at 80 later will be 120kmh
@@LieutZhuNG Will it be electric?
Not in the near future, it need a reliable national power grid.
@@LieutZhuNG Thank you very much for the information...
Thanks. They increased the speed from Today. I will soon update the video
Probably need walls and fences separating people from tracks.....like
New York Central....
also crossways under and over the tracks!
Yes it do need such arrangement
@@LieutZhuNG can you please suggest this to your co-workers so that they can tell the federal government to provide this? Please
Gradually , one day we'll achieve the 350 kmph. 🙏
Or more since technology will advance.
Long way to go mate!!
This is good enough for now
This one is good for now
Thanks so much for this video which is I guess the first high quality cab ride in Africa on YT !
Buhari scored a high mark on this one
He is serious about infrustructure
@@LieutZhuNG the lack of it is killing the economy
@@LieutZhuNG very serious! I hope the next administration continues.
Flamante ferrocarril a estrenar. Obra pública a full.
Good Video 👍 More I understand why the train moves slowly, Government should do something about the people on the tracks and also put Fencing and law
In the town, only drive at 20-30km/h
@@LieutZhuNG is government saying anything about the traders on the track?
I really got no idea
@@LieutZhuNG all the same great video
Nigerian railway is like Indian railways in the 70s. When will they electrify the routes? Any plan for high speed railway in Nigeria soon?
Love the video 😀
Electrified railway need stable power supply, long way to go. Nigeria is not short of oil and gas, FG could build more power plants and upgrade the grid.
Thanks for watching!
Good thing is that you don’t find thousands of people traveling on top and around trains. That’s a plus.
@@DinizEngland Lol that's in Bangladesh. If you that in India with the thousands of voltage overhead only if one wants to commit suicide.
In China some people pissed from the bridge and electrified to death, old news
To morrow it will be ELECTRIFIED
I managed to do 40 years as a train driver in UK without ever being involved in a single fatality... now happily retired... I wonder how many victims of death by train you get in a week??? Looks like a very well built piece of railway, but I wonder how long the copper cables needed for the signalling system will last before it gets stolen, or even if the signalling system will ever get installed due to these thefts...
No casualty so far, but not sure after more train put into operation
Can you enlighten me about the type of locomotives currently deployed on this track?
Thanks
Diesel combustion V12 engine, if put it into a car gonna be crazy LOL. Max speed 160KMH
The other locomotive we saw in Papalanto Station max speed 120KMH
Like in Indonesia (especially Java), the train is too often for honking. V:
(Sorry for my english)
The driver is doing his best to make sure people don't walk in front of the train. There's not anything he can do about people who deliberately jump in front, though.
@@paullangford8179 That's right. I'm so concerned about that behavior. I see it as the condition of Jakarta in the early 21st century.
For me, the true solutions are making separator beside rail track and overpass bridge for people (Jembatan Penyeberangan Orang).

There are no points motors or any other automation on the crossovers. Is this railway actually in service?
Even in the US and Europe, there are some roads cross on railway.
@@LieutZhuNG I'm not talking about the level crossings. I'm talking about the track points that shift the train from one track to another. There are no point motors of other automation, and not even any signals for the train drivers. It's as if the whole thing is only for show.
Still under construction, signal system will be finished by June. Of course it will have the system, it’s 21st century
