    This was my first luxury watch. Besides the navitimer I think this is the best sports watch Breitling has to offer. It’s known as cheaper and entry level in their catalog but this gets love from hardcore watch nerds and watch makers. Great review

    Great review Ivan, and thanks to Graham for lending you these impressive timepieces for review.
    Striking looking watch, the dimensions are spot on, not too overblown and chunky.
    The dial is aesthetically pleasing and that bezel is first-rate.
    Nice 🙂👍

    I have just purchased this watch after watching your review. This isn't my first luxury watch but it's very compact and comfy on my wrist.
    I went for the blue dial which is uncomplicated and easy to read.

    Hi Ivan. thanks for Breitling review. A watch that I have never owned (and I have owned and own quite a bit of different watches :+) but always wanted to have one... but I just could not find any good reasons to buy one for myself. Kind of strange when I think of it now.... I always liked their distinctive style of bezel, dial and links and it is really a good think that they did not went away much from their original identity when so many others did and so many has failed miserably recently.
    Ivan, As you said, this watch is a really subtle and quite looking watch for a Breitling and probably a lot of regular people (who does not know much about Breitling) might be able to give this watch a chance. However, besides the Breitling name and its distinctive styling, it is a tough proposition to cough up more than $3K for ETA2824 movement even though it is well regulated. As example, I just bought a Steinhart Vintage Ocean One Verson 3. That also has regualted elabor grade ETA2824 and it goes +4 a day. But of course with $470 price tag. Of course, I am not really comparing $470 Stainhart with "THE BREITLING"..... Even though the Breitling name has been way passed their glory days (we can find their watches from 60% discount to 30% discount from Grey dealers. This Colt 41 is being sold slightly under $3K with 28% discount which is the least discount by the way...), still it is Breitling.
    As for the watch, honestly, I do not have whole lot to say. IT IS WELL MADE AND THE DESIGN IS ALMOST FLAWLESS. Except the bracelet clasp which is almost identically similar quality as my $470 Steinhart, ha ha ha. By the way, as you mentioned, it is a black dial, but from your vid, it certainly looked like Navy Blue dial. is that just camera lens trick or that black dial has some sort of different coating which will change colors in some lighting? let me know.
    As for Breitling brand, They should come up with something unique and differently functional clasp (like Glide lock or at least Citizen Promaster bracelet or something....). if you ask me, they haven't done anything significant for such a long time. they are keep rehashing same designs and concepts for years and years, meanwhile, they are keep taking back seats and back seats. They got to take some calculated chance on R&D and specially in their marketing. If not, I am afraid that they might fall into same trap as Baume & Mercier....
    Again, I like the watch being very quite and subtle, but again, just price tag might be some problem for people who does not know much about Breitling and for someone also who knows about Breitling like me. Still... I can not find myself a good reason to buy one.
    PS: I am going to Hong Kong & China tomorrow for two weeks. I might pick something in Hong Kong. I always buy good watches in Hong Kong and maybe I can find myself a good reason to buy a Breitling in Hong Kong.. you never know.. thanks again for a wonderful review, Ivan. good day to you.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks as always Alex! I do find Breitling quite distinctive, and worthy of consideration if it is within a collector's budget. The clasp is definitely a source of angst for me... really very odd that they continue to do this, and I do hope they step it out soon to something more in line with the asking price.
      Breitling have mainly stuck with the classic designs but I get the sense they are trying to freshen things up in recent years... significantly with the introduction of their first manufacture caliber B01 around 2010. More recently there has been an update model of the Navitimer which is very different from the long familiar look. Also their new Superocean, somewhat reminiscent of a Longines Hydroconquest look, and even the new Colt, which amazingly is EVEN more restrained with a quieter dial, 24 hour marks having been removed.
      Regarding the dial color, the blue tinge which is all so obvious in Breitling sapphire (see also my Chronomat review) is thanks to the AR coating - somehow Breitling AR coating comes of more blue than in any other brand I have seen.
      All the best with your trip to HK - if you pick up a new piece, do post on IG (if you have it) and tag me :)

I've got myself recently the A17350 (blue dial, 38 mm Colt) and, despite the watch being perfect, almost mint condition, running perfectly and all that, I still have great difficulty getting used to a Breitling THAT tiny... It's a great-looking watch. I have the blue-dial Avenger II GMT which has a similar look. On the rubber strap with quick-adjust deployant, I now wear it just about all the time, in fact I'm shedding the bulk of my current collection because the watches sit in my safe.

    • @PerthWAtch

      Thanks, yeah I always though the Avenger range look mostly similar, although I think doesn't come in 41mm right?

      @@PerthWAtch dial 32mm, bezel 41mm, case 43mm, endlink 22mm, thickness 11.8mm. Hard to describe (will try to capture for IG @pilot.watch.doctor) but the bezel slopes up to the the polished steel center ring, which leads to a slightly domed crystal, with rider tabs also sloping up & in. Also the 24 hour rehout is killer and the hour markers match the date wheel perfectly. They nailed the design.

    That’s my only watch for the last 2 years now... I wanted to get a watch for my 30th but can’t find any that comes close to this one... thought about a black bay gmt which is nice but I don’t fall in love with it. Thought of an oyster perpetual 39 in white, which looks nice and it’s a lovely idea to buy my first Rolex for my 30th. I was also thinking about the first omega in space which I like and I have beautiful leather straps to go with it. On the other hand I’m more of a diver guy even though this breitling is not a pure diver. It seems I bought the perfect watch for me... I’m happy and sad about that. I want a second watch but can’t justify spending over 2000€ for a watch which I sure don’t like as much as this breitling. I might buy back the omega 2255.80 electric blue... there is also the Tudor Black Bay 41 with the Blue dial... i kinda don’t want to buy a second diver looking watch with black dial... I won’t ever sell this breitling, only if it’s the last money that can save me from living on the street.

      @PerthWAtch  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Ray, that's interesting, no one else has commented that way about the bezel (including on my Chronomat review, very similar bezel look/finish). I also haven't come across a cheap watch with similar bezel, apart from a Pagani homage in black PVD. Are there any specific brands you are aware of that are notorious for this?

      Perth WAtch I had a microbrand called Breed that had a chrono with that type of bezel, but I’ve also bought cheap watch lots from eBay that had assorted brands that were really cheap (wish.com type) watches that had really similar bezels. That is why I say, it just gives that “feel” for me personally. I’m going to sort thru my “cheap” watch tub and find names. Yes I keep a plastic tub full of cheap watches that I buy to find collectibles and the ones I don’t want go in the tub. I’ll fix when I have time, (ha ha) and give away.

      Perth WAtch At one time, there were over 300, but I’ve given away quite a few. At first, I had planned on selling after getting them cleaned up, replacing bands and such, but I gave some away and thought that if it made people who normally couldn’t spend the xtra money for a watch feel a little better, then that would serve a better purpose. I know I feel better having a nice, clean working watch on my wrist. It’s kind of hard to give away some of the ones that I really like, but I don’t need a bigger collection than I already have.

    A great review.
    Personally I would not get this, the Omega Seamaster is around the same price with the Co-Axil movement.
    Also, I would not spend that much on a watch except maybee for something Like a grail peace. This watch is not very unique and there way too much polishing. Just an opinion.
