One of the first things I do is strip all the dealer tags off my vehicles. I actually had a service tech offer to put some dealer frame plates back on one vehicle. I said sure, if you cut me a break on my service cost for advertising lol Ya, thats didn't happen.
UNETHICAL COMPANY REVIEWS you did get something. You got a great deal. After you came in , said you were working with 3 dealers and the best price wins, you grinded the shit out of the deal and we of course took it. You should advertise because we made zip and you acted like we were busy buds when you were buying it. Lol
The company that makes these went out of business and closed shop in June 2017. You should do more research before recommending or reviewing products. Not to mention the tons of negative customer reviews for these products many of which can be found on amazon.
The plate covers here are so large as to cover portions of my NC plate. That is specifically prohibited. Do they have any designed to fit so all information on your plate is visible? I'm not looking for a lovely fine from one of the locals.
I found a trick from TH-cam on how to use the back up camera of my 2015 civic while driving. It's very useful as I drive a manual and a live in a hilly area
What a waste of money. I bought a backup cam that mounts to the license plate for $99, and had a screen/mirror that I slipped over my existing inside rearview mirror. It has the gridlines too. Simple, cheap. Just like Chevy.
I'm using a s3 it's called I forgot what else it is called and it works great, it's Android and has a backup camera and front camera built in. It's a dashcam and has Bluetooth and SIM card slot and everything from amazon
How about a reliable recording dashcam (WITHOUT WIRES) to document action that occurs during front and/or rear accidents? Maybe working in conjunction with your smartphone!
Before installing "high tech license plate", you shift to the reverse gear, and your backup camera and sensors start automatically. After installing high tech plate, you switch on your phone's bluetooth, place your phone on a holder visible to your eyes, press a Tap button, hope there's no disconnection/delay via bluetooth/wifi, shift to the reverse gear, and realize you've forgotten to charge the high tech plate's battery as cameras, bluetooth, wifi drain battery quicker than you thought.
Well considering that a decent portion of cars today have terrible visibility and ridiculous blind spots, these aids are becoming more like necessities.
JUMP23MΔN , , , not so easy in an F150 or Fleet van, or a tractor trailer while parking in a city like NYC... Efficiency my friend, it's 2017. I know how to drive, but a back up camera makes it easier. At the same time I've heard of people still crashing even while using back up cameras (some people just don't know how to drive).
Obsolete in an era where every new car is now mandated to use a backup camera. And I sure ain't paying $400 for a camera/phone hassle to be installed on my old corolla. The only market for this product (people with older cars) are way too used to using their mirrors and sight to be "bothered" into buying a fancy camera. Product would have done great if launched about 6 - 7 years ago. But still props to the team that came up with this idea.
This is like having an overly complex app for seeing a reverse camera.. that I have to mount my phone to use.. Or I could get a dedicated reverse cam installed that is compatible with many recent decks on the market and just have that always on hand. I bought a reverse cam with my last touch screen deck thinking I would use it.. Haven really needed it yet.
Hopefully the backup camera license plate frame doesn't block important info on your plate like the state your vehicle is registered. That will get you pulled over and in some cases ticketed.
When i put my car in reverse and my backup camera comes on automatically. Work truck has tow hitch cam for backing up which seems to be pretty much standard on current vehicles.
Living in the SF Bay Area Cooley should know better not to discuss the high potential of this being taken off your car the moment you leave it for 15 minutes.
I was surprised he didn’t say anything about that. It looks pretty easy to put on so I’m sure it’s just as easy to take off. Definitely a huge deterrent to purchase.
I backed a box truck into people's driveways for years. I never hit anything except low hanging tree branches on top the truck. That was part was unavoidable but never hurt anything. I'm more for having dash cams to record insurance fraud. I didn't need a back up camera then and I still don't.
The backup cam plate frame doesn't look like a bad product... but i could never justify spending 400 on something that thrown together when a kit that will engage automatically and includes a screen, is $300 less. Go ahead and spend the extra $300 on install of the wiring and have a couple hundred left over. Also worth mentioning that an entirely new head unit with integrated back up cam wpuld only run you twice that.
These are cool idea but the only time I would ever need a rear cam/ sensors is so I can get 2 inches from the car behind me while parallel parking and if im doing that I dont want to worry about pulling my phone up to see behind me while parking
All those item are stupid. For the price of them you can get a Android head unit with nav DVD aBluetooth ect. And a 20 buck camera and wire it up and have more then just a camera.
I'm not giving up my United States Marine Corps license plate frame. I earned the right to use it. I drove cars for 50 years without backup cameras and sensors, and will continue to do so. BTW, my car is a 1964 Ford Fairlane, and I will not have anything high tech on it.
Why is it solar? Cars have 12v power all over the place, I'd much rather have it be more reliable. You can get a backup camera fully installed with a dedicated monitor for less than this thing.
actually since they are cramming so much power in the name of flagship phones.... it's only good if we use it for many things other than basic phone features
If you car needs a rear view camera by 2018, that means that the camera system probably costs more than your car !! Lol Nowadays all cars come with rear view cameras !!
Some of the factory ones are junk though. 320x200 resolution on a 3" screen in your dash doesn't let you see much, and are dangerous to be relied upon because of the poor resolution and screen size.
UNETHICAL COMPANY REVIEWS Read your comment again and see for yourself whose comment sounds like a butthurt boy. But... what should we have expected from a truck driver to begin with? It's alright.
Last car I got in carmax I had to punctually mention that I didn't want anything that said carmax in my car. When I went to pick it up it had the plates and the sticker in the back. Was about to walk away when they offered a few extra goddies in the deal
Theres something better than this guys and its really cheap costing about £10 per unit. It also doesn't need power, so no annoying wires and its really easy to use. Called a mirror.
I think this technology is good for times where you can't see animals or kids who may be behind your car when you're reversing. This would be the only reason I'd bother getting one.
License plate frames are a pointless waste of money. I took mine off from the dealer and it looks better without. Too bad my headunit doesnt support a rear camera :(
One of the first things I do is strip all the dealer tags off my vehicles. I actually had a service tech offer to put some dealer frame plates back on one vehicle. I said sure, if you cut me a break on my service cost for advertising lol Ya, thats didn't happen.
Agreed
My Road Tours and
I took a car to a dealership for some body work and the bastards slapped their logo on my bumper. I was beyond pissed.
Yup first thing I did to my truck when I got it home was rip the stupid dealer sticker off!
UNETHICAL COMPANY REVIEWS you did get something. You got a great deal. After you came in , said you were working with 3 dealers and the best price wins, you grinded the shit out of the deal and we of course took it. Good to see B. Cooley On car tech again. Missed his top 5 on CNET
I have a back up camera on all my cars I’m good but I’m glad you guys created this
The company that makes these went out of business and closed shop in June 2017. You should do more research before recommending or reviewing products. Not to mention the tons of negative customer reviews for these products many of which can be found on amazon.
More Cooley please he’s the best presenter and in long form he’s brilliant. More please
Still Rockin the"do it in a datsun" license plate frame on my 84 turbo 300zx.
why would I want to open a whole app just to park
Vincent Doyle
Right!!
cool_dude_98 98 ha ha ha..... joke about woman parking is funny ha ha real jokester over here
Women
It opens automatically
Nah I’ll just stick with the “hand over the front passenger headrest” finesse move to park my banana mobile.
turning around is such a primitive way of parking

It's for whinerllenials who want everything to be done for them so they can vape and text while trying to drive.
largol33t1 you mean sick sick? We don't really vape, we suck dick
Just slap a couple fish eye mirrors on your side mirrors and your golden 👌
The plate covers here are so large as to cover portions of my NC plate. That is specifically prohibited. Do they have any designed to fit so all information on your plate is visible? I'm not looking for a lovely fine from one of the locals.

Quick! Look behind you! (There...I just saved you $499.)
So true.
lmaooo
I think they are missing a market. I want front and rear cameras that dump to a DVR so I can record the bad drivers and road rager's.
G Haz other countries it's common to have. People will throw themselves out in front of your car to sue you. I like your idea.
It is sad that our governments make us defend ourselves from the criminals, but it is what it is, and if we do not protect ourselves, we get screwed.
Thank you. I always enjoy peer recognition.
Dashcam.. yeah those definitely already exist
I like this guys honesty, id vote for him as a president
Love this guys honesty.
I'll still go for the wiring kit, that's true DIY in my opinion.
What a waste of money. I bought a backup cam that mounts to the license plate for $99, and had a screen/mirror that I slipped over my existing inside rearview mirror. It has the gridlines too. Simple, cheap. Just like Chevy.
ZombieDieHard basically anywhere especially Walmart I got mine for $70
Is it still holding up well?
do you need to charge the camera manually when it runs out of battery or is it always powered? what are they called? any name of the product?
Hi .. please advice from where I can buy the one you mentioned.
I'm using a s3 it's called I forgot what else it is called and it works great, it's Android and has a backup camera and front camera built in. It's a dashcam and has Bluetooth and SIM card slot and everything from amazon
Is that your r 100 ca in the background? I had 2 of those in a previous life. Before I stopped riding.
My boi Brian is back!
this was awesome, awesome, awesome
Don't care for these gadgets, I'm here for Cooley 😎👍
At 3:21 both ONTARIO and the year are blocked out by the frame...you will get a ticket the first time the OPP sees this
A pity this comes so late. In Europe many cars have standard sensors now and we are not so far to get our packages delivered in the boot.
Make a license plate frame that stops me from getting photo radar tickets! Lol
They exist, although not legal in most states.
There's one on Amazon that flips your plate over. It's about 200$
Also check out Nonda backup camera its just like these but costs less
Could you wire this camera to constantly record video behind the car while you are driving and also save it to a hard drive or thumb drive?
I guess if you own a car pre 2012. Both of my cars purchased since 2012 carry these features standard.
How about a reliable recording dashcam (WITHOUT WIRES) to document action that occurs during front and/or rear accidents? Maybe working in conjunction with your smartphone!

In Ohio, any license frame that covers up ANY part of the printed information on the tag, is illegal and will get you a hefty fine.
Or you can look and know how to parallel park a vehicle... Just saying🤔
porschetr Great! Smartening up the cars and stupiding down the drivers!
JUMP23MΔN true but it stops hose who can't park from messing your car up
Well considering that a decent portion of cars today have terrible visibility and ridiculous blind spots, these aids are becoming more like necessities.

A frame that hurls a loogie at the too close follower...wold be a winner.
Hey RoadShow, any DIY or smartphone-connected recommendations/reviews would be appreciated!

Or I could get a dedicated reverse cam installed that is compatible with many recent decks on the market and just have that always on hand. Some areas issue tickets for plate frames that cover parts of the license plate.
Do they all work on batteries if they're wireless? Cause you would need to change them all the time I would imagine.
So happy my shit comes stock with a backup cam, this looks difficult
Nice Vic!!
Floor / Console shifter on a Crown Victoria ?
They are large and many states now will give you a ticket if the plate cover hides the state name on the plate
I used a wireless camera and screen and Wireless is awful, just get a wired version. It always works
How easy are these for thieves to walk by and go “ooo.. I️ have a screwdriver so MINE!!”?
Living in the SF Bay Area Cooley should know better not to discuss the high potential of this being taken off your car the moment you leave it for 15 minutes.
I was surprised he didn’t say anything about that. It looks pretty easy to put on so I’m sure it’s just as easy to take off. Definitely a huge deterrent to purchase.
Damn. Here in Canada you don’t have to lock your car or house. Don’t have to worry about anything
Haven't you listened to the video
didnt you here him say it comes with security screws ? if you want to use philips head skrews thats on you
I backed a box truck into people's driveways for years. I never hit anything except low hanging tree branches on top the truck. That was part was unavoidable but never hurt anything. I'm more for having dash cams to record insurance fraud. I didn't need a back up camera then and I still don't.

I put a Hopkins parking sensor in my car for ~$50
Work's perfectly
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ROAD SHOW EPISODES?!??!?!
If people learned how to drive properly they would not need this nonsense. Cell phones should not be used while driving for any purpose.
Not exactly cheap. I think these will become lower as so many newer cars have them standard. It's an interesting option for us with older vehicles
You can get a ticket in Florida for having a license plate frame. The dealer put it on and I got a ticket two weeks later.
Your XKE ?
license plate frames are lowkey illegal..they can use it as an excuse to pull you over..obstructing license plate
It took me 3 minutes to realise you were looking at different products. I thought he was just adding stuff on lol
With that amount of brain power you probably own an iPhone, no offense
These are cool idea but the only time I would ever need a rear cam/ sensors is so I can get 2 inches from the car behind me while parallel parking and if im doing that I dont want to worry about pulling my phone up to see behind me while parking
Or you could buy a lincoln and have front and rear parking assist as well as self parallel parking
i must have one while backing up and eating my mcdonalds
You can get a hardwired back up cam and a screen installed at Best Buy for around 300 bucks. Much better than that unreliable Bluetooth.
Lemme know when police band detection or plate scramblers go wireless.
That's dope
Dope
Cooley is no longer with cnet?
These technologies have a long way to go and a short time to get there. Ooops I just described my load assingnment.😀
All those item are stupid. For the price of them you can get a Android head unit with nav DVD aBluetooth ect. And a 20 buck camera and wire it up and have more then just a camera.

Wow this is crap! Definitely by iPhone developers.....
Lol and overpriced just like you'd expect
fensend... Can that work on the front too?
too bad all license plate frames are illegal in Florida I wonder why CarMax keeps giving them away
So I'd have to take off my parking sensors and camera that it already comes with?
Everyone with a push start remote please buy the hide a key plate! This way I can just open your door since the key is next to the car, lol.
society is too dependent on cell phones
i see what you did there...
actually since they are cramming so much power in the name of flagship phones.... it's only good if we use it for many things other than basic phone features
Pretty sure if you're running with a bigass phone you can manage the "bulky" key fob.
in Canada rear view is mandatory, so you don't have to pay this much
They should include a rear view lcd mirror instead of opening a whole app.
Dashcam rear veiw mirrors cost only $15 online.
If you car needs a rear view camera by 2018, that means that the camera system probably costs more than your car !! Lol Nowadays all cars come with rear view cameras !!

A must have for Asians straight from the motherland
Los Pollos Hermanos Dunno, Hispanics are more pathetic drivers from my experience.

as Asian, i shake fist at thee with stern look on face, then calculate cost efficiency of featured product.

Help you back up to trailer by your self. If you don't do it that often
I prefer my skill, than that garbage
How is DIY being defined in this video? Because buying something pre-done instead of doing all the wiring yourself seems to be less DIY not more?
They're fokin casuals who waste money on other people doing the work for them
Theres something better than this guys and its really cheap costing about £10 per unit. It also doesn't need power, so no annoying wires and its really easy to use. Called a mirror.
Most cars come with this standard now or at least an option
Latency?
I think this technology is good for times where you can't see animals or kids who may be behind your car when you're reversing. This would be the only reason I'd bother getting one.
you need to check out bSafeMobile
License plate frames are a pointless waste of money. I took mine off from the dealer and it looks better without. Too bad my headunit doesnt support a rear camera :(
Miguel Angel Medina Rise not if you live in maryland and have historic tags.
I think cars should take the initiative to stop when they see me backing out of my driveway. They don't own the road afterall.
Defeats the diy"Ness" that's literally diy.... LMFAO
But nothing for those of us with cars that have built in back up cameras?
Do they have audio to tell the driver everything will be ok and don’t forget to take your anxiety medication?
i stopped the video when i saw $499.
I bought one and it didn't connect half the time.
People would steal that in a instant. These items don't have security features which makes it almost worthless tbh
So the bottom line is that none of those gizmos work.
Everything is good until someone behind you hits your car
I'll just keep using the wired ones lol..
That’s stupid. Now that it is 2018, all car manufacturers are required by law to have backup cameras, this will only affect 2018 new models.
I ranther have a wired back up camara to my touchscreen radio
what car newer than 10 years old doesn't already have this?
