53:00 Speaking of the city vs settle settle. One thing you didn't consider (out loud) is, if you go for the city, do you port 10 sheep or 8 sheep and 2 wood. To settle twice you need 2 wood and 2 sheep, but (especially after you city) you produce a lot more wood than sheep - more importantly you have 2 wood numbers vs 1 sheep number, so you're more likely to produce *any* wood than *any* sheep. For that reason, I would make the city with 2 wood and 8 sheep.

I agree. If I were in his position I probably would double settle because you would only need a city to win with tons of chances at popping as well.
If he were to build a city outright in this position, black might talk his way into getting fed the plow (or pull a RB which hasn't come out yet).

Haven't watched yet, but the 8510 as first pick is the most flexible option while having tons of outs for your second pick. I also envision the 4 wheat and 10 ore being blocked often, while it's going to be hard for anyone other than the OWS player to justify blocking the 8 wood when there is so much wood on the board, or the 10 brick when it's not even the best brick.

Hey Drew I noticed on the very first turn of the game Purple took the starting road but didn’t place it. Is there a benefit to holding there? It allowed him to road settle on the following turn, but in my mind it felt vulnerable to the robber. What do you think? Trying to learn : )

Building the road makes it more likely the ore would get stolen, and that's the rarer resource.
