    Mike you may want to have a Flir infrared camera (not that expenses), that way you can see the hot spots below the surface.

    This is my experience of putting/keeping fires out under bushes and trees. Use the most concentrated stream of water you can to penetrate down into the ground, do not use the spray setting because all you are doing is watering the top of the ashes. The best thing I have ever seen for getting down into the roots was a pressure washer with a 500 gallon tank. It works much better than you think it would not only for getting down into the roots but also the spray that it puts out will also do well on a grass fire. Mike, you make great videos and I like your sense of humor!

    • @checkengine1752
      @checkengine1752 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They may install lightening cages on top of the poles. It stops arcing by directing plasma inside. The downside is you need to ground it to be effective, which in this situation is probably missing a point, because it will attract the lightning.

    Isn't tilling the ground in a fire just common sense? I think it's even a normal thing to do in the Netherlands, where fields are small, fire departments are close, and conditions are usually not all too dry during harvest.
    About going when there's enough people there to fight it: It should be common sense that even if there's enough people there, as long as there are people there that are not part of your crew, you go there to relieve them. They're helping you, so you make sure they can get back to their own work as quickly as possible. We all know the guy who's like "Oh you're gonna finish that for me? Thanks, bye". That's a bad guy.

    If you want to see what a fire in cropping country can do, Google 'Pinery fire 2015 South Australia". It burnt 210,000 acres in less than four hours and 180,000 acres in less than 2. No amount of water or tillage can stop a fire once it gets going down here ...

    Small farm, big farm, huge farm, it is the creed in America. New York State or Ohio or Oklahoma but city folk will not, maybe cannot understand it.

    Have you ever considered installing a FireTamer (Remote Controlled Water Cannon for High Clearance Sprayers) on the front on one or more of your sprayers and use it a fire truck? It's made by a couple of Canadian farmers in Alberta: www.firetamer.ca

    TH-camr Welker Farms has one installed on one of their sprayers for harvest:

    I grew up in Southern Alberta and we treated fire like you guys. Then I bought this place by ituna and people will start a quarter section on fire to burn the straw and leave. Took some getting used to.

      Theyre usually not 4x4 and are designed to dump massive volumes of water on a plane in a minute or even a few seconds
      Used to live next to an airforce base
      Had a fire in the pine plantation near by and the airforce decided to "show those little volunteer brigades how its done"
      Basically they went in, got stuck in the sand on the side of a track, dumped 15'000 lts of water on 3 trees, spent 2 hours getting pulled out then left
      All the brigade trucks and most of the farmers trucks are either izusu or hino 4x4 trucks with 4000lt water tanks

    Stay out in California where they had a big fire it was caused by Highline wires touching in the wind so every time they get a certain mile per hour wind they shut off the power when that be something that would be out for maybe a week no air-conditioning no water no lights when we had our Wind storm here in Iowa we were out for weeks
