All right, I’ll try to express my opinion on Angelo Roncalli…
Everyone knows he was a modernist (and probably even a mason…), but I am not so sure he would be happy regarding the outcome of CVII and especially the Novus Ordo Missae…
He didn’t really love Bugnini and his reforms, he was very critical about those changes of “semana santa” (1951-1956) under Pius XII, so much that he ignored them and continues with the old ceremonies!
Roncalli was ecumenic? Yes, he was… but, he had a predilection for Orthodox with their beauty and rich liturgy; indeed, John XXIII really loved the pomp of cerimonies! In this regard, he didn’t like Protestants and their extreme simplicity without a deep sense of the Sacred… well, Montini (Paul VI) was exactly the opposite!
Pope John didn’t abolish anything of the papal court, and he wanted all the priests to keep the cassock, to keep the tonsure, etc.
BUT, he was going to make a few dangerous opening, and - yes - maybe change some points of the doctrine…
From what I understand he intended to keep the old form (the traditional liturgy and the pomp of the Church) with some changes to the substance…
That was possible? Nowadays the Church would be different? I don’t have an answer…
He wasn't a modernist nor a mason, stop slandering this holy pope.

I'm amazed at the amount of the music used was by Johann Sebastian Bach. I was 12 years old at the time and remember the fascination and hopes that were aroused by this Council and John XXIII.
After 60 years the faith and the church is in tatters. Something went completely wrong. The last 10 years have precipitated the fall and Rome is now leaderless while bishops are openly rebelling against moral teachings on sexuality and true meaning of marriage.
And what did the people think of all the changing done to the Church after it happened?
@@meusisto My reply may not be of much interest to you, since it comes from an American born and raised as a Lutheran who was observing all of this through the eyes of a child. However..., I was barely aware of Pius XII until his death, and it was probably all of the excitement surrounding the election of Angelo Roncalli as John XXIII that gave me any knowledge of the late pope. I had the typical reaction of the time to John's warm personality. He seemed to me to be a kind of grandfather to the whole world. His efforts to mitigate the Cuban missile crisis of 1962 were well-known and appreciated. His calling of the Second Vatican Council gave rise to much excitement and powerful but very nebulous hopes about the future of Christendom as a whole, although I do recall being aware of factions within the Roman Catholic Church that were quite anxious about the possible outcomes of such an event. Later on, when his declining health and physical suffering became widely know, the general concern for his life was universal, so far as I could tell. When he died on 3 June 1963, genuine grief seemed to be widely shared regardless of religious denomination. In fact, his death provided a contrast for the young version of myself in that our (Lutheran) church included prayers for his health in services prior to his death and held a memorial service on the day of his funeral. That had certainly not happened in the case of Pius XII, and I had the impression that such a thing had never happened before. Also, I would say that there are just two prominent deaths for which I can recall exactly where I was and what I was doing at the time that I heard about them. Both were in 1963, one of them being the assassination of John Kennedy and the other being the death of John XXIII. The way I learned of the pope's death was much more gentle than was truth with Kennedy's; when I heard the bell of the local Roman Catholic Church begin to toll slowly and persistently, I knew exactly what had happened, for it was by then expected.
As for the effects of the Council, I can only comment as one who was a young outsider. The first point is to understand that John XXIII died before much of the work of the Council was fully begun, let along finished (not quite 9 months after the opening of the Council that would continue for just over three years). So, I have long been disturbed by the so-called conservative factions in the church who lay blame at his doorstep for what they perceive as the liberal excesses or even heresies that resulted. I knew of a lot of grumbling among the local flock about the change to English as the language of the Mass and the steps that were taken to make it much less formal and open to wider lay participation in the Mass. Objections became more serious when the "liberals" took the opportunity to begin serious questioning of church stands on numerous moral issues. Obviously, this resulted in some deep splits within the Roman Catholic Church, even up to the splitting off of groups such as SSPX. This was all both fascinating and regrettable to watch from the outside, but, as I "had no skin in the game" so to speak, observation was my only role. These divisions appear to have been exacerbated by the election of Francis, so I take the question of the ultimate outcome of the Second Vatican Council as still unsettled. Such things appear often to move at a glacial pace within the church, so I guess that would not be surprising.
I would say that the specific thing that I most regretted seeing was the near total suppression of the Latin Tridentine Mass because of its deep solemnity, a kind of emotional/spiritual poetry and the idea of it having been shared across centuries and across various cultures all around the world. On the other hand, I had witnessed a few "low" Masses in which the priests rattled off the Latin so quickly that I doubted whether anyone could have understood it, and the process struck me as being somewhat less than reverent.
No doubt any member of the Roman Catholic Church who lived through those years into the present would have a much more detailed knowledge to address the question you asked, but here you have mine.

I think that what astonished a world opened up by television and film newsreels was just how...er...CATHOLIC the Roman Catholic Church represented at Vatican II was. Every country, every continent, every colour, every rite (almost). Only very few countries went directly unrepresented - the PRC, North Korea, Albania, and the like. Protestants and Orthodox alike could not bear comparison in universality of representation, as exposed by the cameras.
The beginning of the end of the Church as we knew it. :(

Absolutely amazing. Why can't papal liturgies be like the thumbnail and 51:22? Truly unfortunate. But anyways, If we can't see such beauty again, I pray the subsequent pope fully returns the liturgical beauty Benedict XVI fought for in papal liturgies. The video of Benedict's last solemn liturgy exemplifies what the liturgical reform should've always looked like.
We hope and pray for the imminent cessation of the crisis of faith, the crisis of the Church, the crisis of liturgy, the crisis of morality. May the legacy of Benedict XVI come alive in the papal liturgy!

Thank God JP2 stepped in to improve things after the beauty of the liturgy had been massacred over the course of 1.5 decades of V2 Implementation.

The post Conciliar Church has experienced nothing but auto demolition since the the last session of the Council in 1965. The glory and majesty of the Church will return, but not as long as the Novus Ordo, with its new theology, new rites, and constant need to reform anything that is genuinely Catholic, survives.

The Church's duty and responsibility is to bring them into the Church, not make concessions and compromise the Faith. It explains why the Novus Ordo Mass, is very Protestantized, and the post Conciliar Church is not very Catholic, no matter how much they try to convince one otherwise.

O Concílio foi obra do Espírito Santo, que é a Alma da Igreja. Infelizmente, se houve problemas foi em relação a sua execução. Como dizia o Santo Padre Bento XVI, em sua última alocução ao Clero de Roma, numa aula histórica em que dava um testemunho pessoal de sua experiência como redator do Concílio, houve dois “concílios”: um que era divulgado pela imprensa e o Concílio propriamente dito. Pode-se constatar que muitos que se fizeram “arautos do concílio” com as ideias mais estapafúrdias ao longo desses 60 anos, ou nunca leram os Documentos do conciliares, ou são frutos do pseudo-concílio que a mídia, desde aqueles tempos, tem gerado, provocando tantas divisões e confusão entre os cristãos.

The Council was the debutante ball of Modernism, which it helped repackage in order for it to be acceptable to the Catholic masses. There was a lot of machinations, scheming and maneuvering that went on with this Council, and the fruits of these sinister going ons has borne the bitter fruit that many taste today.
