The plaza theater was absolutely gorgeous in its hay day I loved going there as a youngster it felt So sophisticated I remember watching James Bond movies with Sean Connery thanks for The memories ❤
I met my first friend after moving here from San Diego in 1978, I was only 18 years old He worked in electronics at Murphy’s. It would be so cool to be able to find him
I worked at Sherwin Williams in the plaza in 74, 75. I used to walk down to Befwicks for a sandwich and always noticed the pretty girl working behind the counter. I told my coworker Sheri how cute I thought the girl at Befwicks was and Sheri said " ask her out ". I replied that that girl was way out of my league and besides, I would never have the stones to ask her out. Sherie went and checked her out and said I better get some balls and ask her out. After days of sweaty palms and sleepless nites I finally asked her out. To my surprise she said a firm YES. We went to a Blue Oyster Cult concert that nite and today we are celebrating 43 years of marriage. I want to thank Sheri for pushing me to meet my soulmate and the girl Id be with for the rest of my life. Call it fate, call it karma, we call it love at first site.
Man loved the west erie plaza Murphy's D n k was some of my favorite store to go to remember loved the movie theater, but hated those wood seats they had those were the days a theater in the neighborhood
What an amazingly researched video! I didn’t expect documentary-quality when I just clicked on this video out of nostalgia (I lived near there in my teen years). Great work!
I saw so many movies at that theatre. I remember the lunch counter at Murphy's, and the Little Professor Book Center is to this day still my favorite book store ever.
I shopped and hung out at this plaza many times as a teenager. It seems like the movie theatre was always playing Gone with the Wind. It would be great to have a piece on the Erie Central Mall, the first interior mall in the area. My Dad had a barber shop there and my Mom worked at Scott's 5 & 10. Keep up the great work.
I wish I could've seen the theater in its prime. By the 80's it was chopped up into a multiplex. I still have good memories there. I remember seeing Batman.
I as well it was a field trip at my High school Strong Vincent in my Auto Visual class. Watch couple times Hell we might have been in the same movie theater at the same time
Lived very near the West Erie Plaza and loved it as a little kid in the 1950s. We moved away from Erie in the early 1960s but continued to visit family until the early 2000s . I believe there was a Loblaws store there in the 1950s . It preceded an A&P that was built as a separate building circa 1960 across the parking lot . Please correct me if I am wrong . Love the video.
I went on a field trip to the theater when i attended Maryvale pre school. At the time the theater was in its original condition. It seemed huge to this pre schooler.
Remember growing up in the neighborhood and walking to the WEP on a regular basis with my brother and sister. The 'good time clock' (didn't remember that was it's name) was cool when it was first installed and working in the 80s. It seemed to be always broken soon after. It was a mechanical Rube Goldberg type of machine with steel pinball(s) in there that would roll around and make sounds and was a cool and interesting visual display. There was also a public library there. Murphy's and D&K were the "5 and dime" stores of the day. I'm disappointed they didn't salvage the "Plaza" marquee from the theatre. They could have restored it and placed it somewhere on the property as a historical point of interest and decoration. That new steel arch is nothing special - but am very glad they revitalized the WEP instead of making it another Walmart or something. Also happy about the EV chargers put in there. Would like to know if Litl is still coming, it if that is no longer planned. Thanks for the video of memories
The weather factor is so ridiculous everybody was covered from the snow, heck I moved here from San Diego in 1978, and I loved ,it it didn’t bother me at all and I am a California girl, that plaza pretty much had everything, maybe not as many food service as the mall had , but it had Murphy’s and there was a soda fountain there before Hyatt’s moved in, and then there was Dudleys just a little pass there, loyalty could’ve kept that place going

I remember watching the movie Tora! Tora! Tora! there in 1970...and epic film in an epic theater!
I was at that concert. Erie County Fieldhouse 😮
Nice video.
I've been looking for a channel just like this.
Fascinating!
I remember the moving rock!

You guys are awesome for making these!
Thanks so much!
@@ProjectAlgerine Having lived in Erie the 60s and 70s, and moved away, these series have brought a lot of pleasure in viewing.
Thanks for the interesting and informative video! I remember WEP well. ❤️
I miss the plaza theater, very sad.
I saw so many movies at that theatre. I remember the lunch counter at Murphy's, and the Little Professor Book Center is to this day still my favorite book store ever.
Would be interesting to have a segment about the Erie Central Mall.
I though it was a skating rink in the 80s.

William Scott has quite a history in Erie! Very interesting research. Enjoying all of your videos.
At one time he was the richest man in the entire country.
I worked for the Scott's @Arbys 12th +Peach St in the late 70s. They were snobs and phony. 😮😮😮
I wish I could've seen the theater in its prime. By the 80's it was chopped up into a multiplex. I still have good memories there. I remember seeing Batman.
The moving rock on the sidewalk at the WEP was the best.
Great video! The research was superb. Many great memories there and glad to see it has survived in any form. Thank you for telling the story.
I saw The Phantom Menace there in 99, and my life has basically been in a downward spiral ever since.
I as well it was a field trip at my High school Strong Vincent in my Auto Visual class. Watch couple times Hell we might have been in the same movie theater at the same time
Hahahahaha ❤😂
Loblaws as a Canadian chain? Love this Project Algerine series, who is this narrator?

I have such fond memories... I can still smell the newspaper and rock candy from the store "Book City"! :)
I went on a field trip to the theater when i attended Maryvale pre school. At the time the theater was in its original condition. It seemed huge to this pre schooler.
Great video; fascinating history!
"Shots were fired" lol so subtle
The interesting shape of the Millcreek Mall has been remarked upon before in those terms... very gun-like.

D+K was the shit
Loved it ❤😮

Chuck Hyatt was gay ❤ hahahahaha
I grew up down the street from the WEP and these images are very resonant. May I ask how you found them?
Lots and lots of digging.
The East Millcreek Plaza.
They have haven’t done anything with that area since then no plaque for the theatre either like they promised
From what I've heard the Plaza theater marquee hangs in lobby of the Plaza's offices, but you might want to contact them to be sure.
