The so-called V that is etched above the front door is actually a tulip (flower) and does not stand for vampire. If you were to go to the front office, you would find out who is buried there. It is/was not a vampire. The crypt NEVER caught on fire. The black color you see on the outside stone is black mold that is impregnated into the stone due to age and moisture. This is a very common occurrence you see throughout all graveyards and tombstones.
@@shaggybodacious8309 No, I'm not from Erie, I live in northeast Ohio. But I use to work at a cemetery. Its nice to fantasize about vampires, werewolves, and fire breathing dragons but they are simply folklore and not real. The BS that people make-up and spread, and then how it takes off never ceases to amaze me.
I loved to walk through the Erie Cemetery with my dog when I lived in Erie. It is very beautiful. I remember walking past this crypt. I don't know the legend behind it, if there is one. There are tours of the cemetery put on by the Historical society...they may be aware of any story about this crypt. I believe there are more than 50,00 people buried here. There is even an old tract where the horse drawn wagons carrying the coffins would travel for burials. There are also deer and there was a coyote den that was there, but they took the pups out due to the mother being aggressive to visitors/pets. The cemetery was incorporated I think in the 1850s but I have seen grave markers there that show dates of passing in the 1700s. Very cool place and kept up well.
I remember this cemetery well, lived nearby as a child, many years ago. My dad and I used to walk through there, usually in the spring because there was a lovely tulip garden. I remember the stone caretaker’s house facing lower Chestnut St. Is it still there? Thank you for this informative video!
I've spent a lot of time at that crypt just relaxing. I've learned up against the building as I was sitting there and even knocked on that door. This was a few years ago and I'm still alive. Would stay there until the sun set and wasn't allowed to be in cemetery any longer for the night.
I'm getting the feeling he's going off of a legend, I'm not sure how much is truth, the vampire I don't believe, the stone's that are black is black mold from the elements, I also do cemetery video's and have seen many black stone's.. 🤗 from Wisconsin I hope you're staying warm..
When comes to the dead vampires and witches graves there are true stories weather u choose to believe or not interesting comes cemerterys see landscape of view of all the graves .
You actually can go at night sometimes: I've gone with my bestie a couple of times and we just drove in through the front gate. A little disquieting at first, but very tranquil otherwise.
Yes I remember this well, I have been going to this spot my whole life,me and my friends still roll up on this side of the hill and smoke it up, (💨💨 pass) and we always reminisce the days we used to climb all over this structure, at one point it had Brown family name written on the top, but somehow it’s definitely not there anymore, also the front door was ably to partially open and you can see what look like drawers i the walls, but that also has since been secured, we always called it the devil’s tomb, and the father supposedly was from Erie and yes the story about him going to another country and upon Returning he wasn’t the same is the rumors but there is a lot more to the story as well i don’t quite remember all of it, but yes the devils tomb, 🔥🤘🏼🔥
I love to see those that are still visited, I do cemetery video's also and have seen many forgotten but many visited. I hope you're staying warm, 🤗 from Wisconsin
Reminds me of a tomb in a cemetery next to my old highschool. My friends and I would sneak cigarettes there. The word was if you knocked on the door and said "what you doing in there?" They'd say absolutely nothing. Well that was true they said absolutely nothing. Lol
Lived in Erie my whole 32 Yrs Alive lol I lived on German St Not Far and Pennsylvania Ave "Ive never heard of this"""" Nor Any Of The Stories.. Ive Had Heard OF """Ax Murderer Hollow""" That was the main one talked about...
I feel like saying a straight portal to hell is so wrong.. I'll bet anything the reason those stones are in a circle was probably back in the day there was a big tree in the center and they probably buried their loved ones under a tree for shade and the black stuff on the stone is mildew from the oak trees.. you should have more respect for these people
Dude you should ask the groundkeeper about this specific flower on top. Be careful. Oh boy every one needs to do more thorough research on things like this before coming place like this. It's never a good idea to do at night either. Just saying

@@ajcopple I know, I just shake my head and laugh too. There are so many people now that love making this bull $hIt up and spreading it like butter.
I guess you never heard of Mercy Brown from Exeter Rhode Island the first vampire of New England.

Every town has their own spooky stories. Erie is home to alot of them. I love it
There was a name on it, but it was sandblasted off! And it's called the Brown Mausoleum which is what I heard on top of the Vampire story
The distant train is so mournful sounding. Spooky.......
Excellent narrative. Thank you!!
Love the sounds of a train at night off in a distance.. 🤗 from Wisconsin
I've lived in Erie for 55 yrs. 32 of those yrs I have lived 1/2 a block from the cemetery. This is the first ive EVER heard about this.
You've only just heard about it BECAUSE you only lived a 1/2 block away.... It was the kids that lived 12 blocks away that came up with the legend 😁
Legend and lore of the 19th century is always fascinating. The reason to keep the gates locked is prevent vandalism and paranormals chasing ghosts.
I'm still so devastated I had to move 6 months ago, I loved that cemetery. It's near my childhood neighborhoods too

Dang I live in Erie and never heard of anything like this before
There’s also a grave marker lying flat right next to the one by the tree, on the right side.

My uncle was the groundskeeper for Erie cemetery for decades. This guy has no idea what he's talking about.

Hi Dustin, watching from Wisconsin 🤗 I also do cemetery video's, just subscribed..
Subscribed all the way from Sheffield - uk 🇬🇧👍🏼
When you knock I can hear a voice say go away I'm doing the dishes.
It's been a right of passage to hop the fence and scare your friends since my grandma was a girl. Good times lol
You gotta go up to the crypt at midnight bang on the door and speak the word's I need a man watch what happens

I often walk through cemeteries in Spring it's peaceful
I love the crypt I live 5 blocks from there would sit there an smoke with whomever is in the crypt
It’s owned by the Brown family
Please pray for the poor souls 🙏
There's also supposedly a few warlocks and witches burried there too.
Fascinating thanks great episode
After he's walking away from the vampires tomb a few feet down the road did anybody else hear the voices in the background?
I sure did!!! It almost oentioned it.
Well anyway let me finish my sentence. It sounded like a bunch of witches!!!! He didn't even mention it. Did he not hear those voices????
Oh snap I live in Erie. There's a few cemeteries. One by 26 st at by St Vincents Hospital , another by Waldemar & Evergreen
How does stone “catch on fire?” You touched it man.
It's probably just black mold, like on the vampire crypt, But where's the fun and mystery in that?
Stone don't burn, I'm guessing it's all a mystery like the vampire.. 🤗 from Wisconsin
How fast you think dude would have ran if there was a knock back?
Dude. If you look closely after you knocked on the door. You can see a symbol of a face
No you can't
4:12 center of door, closer to pink bow.
One of many urban myths here in Erie Pennsylvania
Ax Murderer Hollow 😂🤣 offsetania up that big Hill Road
I wished I could have been in there and walked out when you started knocking
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
❤❤❤❤ sure miss that cemetery
Smoeone put flowers on the crypt door so some family members must still be around.
I love to see those that are still visited, I do cemetery video's also and have seen many forgotten but many visited. I hope you're staying warm, 🤗 from Wisconsin
A trail camera or something much smaller placed across from it would be interesting to say the least.
Shit I sat up on top of it before good photo op.
P. S. Everything he said is bs.
It's the vampire from Salem's lots crypt!
What a wives tale ,,tell me ? how old are you again ? VvvV
Reminds me of a tomb in a cemetery next to my old highschool. My friends and I would sneak cigarettes there. The word was if you knocked on the door and said "what you doing in there?" They'd say absolutely nothing. Well that was true they said absolutely nothing. Lol
I can you all about this grave site and the person who's own it if your not from erie they not gonna tell you the story
There does appear to be a name above the door. It looks like it has eroded over the years
The gate keeper chiseled all the names off and lit it on fire. That is why it looks the way it does 🍺🍻📻👻🪦
there is no name on it because the cemetery owns it. they stored bodies there in winter until the ground thawed and they could bury them
I want in!
It's actually the tooth fairies crypt!
There's no vampire in there cut it out it's just family members that died in past y'all killing me with these fairy tales 😂

I had heard this before
There is a face on the left side of the crypt on the wall
There's the name above the door 🚪 it's just molded
if looking for witches circlentheres a big oak tree in a circle
well , Pennsylvania - Translylvania . That says it all i guess....
If it was a vampire it would be asleep during the day
And there are old foot prints leading up to the crypt door. I think you are joshing us Herr vamire hunter.

All the same, I wouldn't touch the top...
This is FICTION PEOPLE I've done my research on this subject NO SUCH THINGS
Watch "Kari the Mortition". She explains the REAL use for this crypt.
HELLO.
So you saying it's not called Erie Cemetery by accident?????😶😶😶😶😶😶😶😶😶
Idk if you're making a joke about eerie or being genuine lol but this is Erie PA
