Around 1966, Turnpike Street between 13th and 14th was eliminated for construction of the Pennsylvania Unemployment Office on the west side of State Street. Prior to that, the Unemployment Office was located on the south side of West 7th between Peach and Sassafras.
So what was considered the Turnpike? Was Peach St the Turnpike, and what we call Turnpike St. simply a detour around a creek? Did I understand that right?
