1996 NBA offseason arguably has a lasting memory with big-time/quality players moving from one team to another. Shaquille O'Neal signed to LA Lakers (Orlando left without compensation) headlines the movement. NYK reloaded by signing Allan Houston and Chris Childs while trading for Larry Johnson. That's why this game is one of the highly-anticipated matchups in the regular season. Nice seeing this game (only read the result) almost 30 years later.
Not a fan of either team but I knew all their players back then! No clue who plays for the Knicks now and only know of LeBron and Davis for the Lakers currently! The NBA is unwatchable today!
@@dreamcage1801 It happens maybe for one day only Marv Albert can come out of retirement to announce one game with Mike Fratello on NBC. Remember as well CBS use to have nba games won't be surprised if nba go to that network one day again.
They really turned the Forum into a mini-Staples the last few years so I guess nobody would notice when they did move IOW, the opposite of Boston Garden and Chicago Stadium
@@nickblank3633 Simple, whether it's the added lighting or new floor that they were using, this more resembles LeBron and prime Kobe than it does Showtime
I liked Del but he probably wasn't the right coach for this Lakers squad as soon as Shaq arrived. He sure loved to clap alot. The original Jason Garrett.
Sorry brother if you watch again you'll see Allan Houston and Larry Johnson for the Knicks who only joined the Knicks that year in 1996. Not to mention Travis Knight playing for the Lakers who got drafted in 1996. Shaq missed this game to injury and Kobe only played 3 mins here.
One of the best games of the 1997 NBA season. Teams always seemed to kick it up a notch when they were on NBC.
Elden Campbell played like a beast in this game with Shaq out!
Campbell always play good with Shaq wasn't on the court when Shaq came back ed didn't play strong I think that's why they traded him
LJ and Houston vs Nick the Quick, Kobe and Jones. Throwback! Love this game… and I love this channel!
👍
I love this camera angle
This Lakers team can still play without Shaquille and an 18 year old Kobe getting no minutes.
That move by Van Exel was VICIOUS

thanks for interesting match up as alwayz!enjoy

12:20 George McCloud, the last one to claim no. 24 before the Black Mamba would
Didn't Jim Jackson wear number 24 for the Lakers in the 05-06 season? (which obviously was also the last season that Kobe wore No 8)
@@brianmao5296yes he did
Jimmy Jackson was the last
Cambell is in this match the best.
Big Patrick 🤝
Elden Campbell was ballin in this game while Shaq was out.
P.S.: NBA will absolutely likely be returning to NBC next year.
Are you serious? The NBA needs NBC!!!
@@roshaungoolsby4554 no bullshit. It’s just the matter of when they are going to announce it when the tv deal is all set and done.
@@dreamcage1801 🥲 that's the 90s and early 2000s kid in me
@@roshaungoolsby4554 yup and I was born in 91. Great announcers on nbc too.

@mgb4692 they changed the court for the 1991-1992 Season, lights have stayed the same since 1967-1968
dang i thought it was gonna be Ewing Vs Shaq with infamous Dudley dunk of death haha!
As much as I love LJ, we really should’ve kept mase especially with Oakley getting older
Thought the knicks were home
Listening to the crowd 😂

James Goldstein in the front row never cheers for the lakers only roots for the opposing team.
..., but Ewning didn't understend, at 35 you can't go uphill.
Learn to spell his name right
Is this the game Kobe got 2 pieced?
No, that was a few years later.
This was in 95 big dog. This was the year right before Shaq and Kobe got there. Great video still tho 💯
