    Such an underrated series. 97' Playoffs were really close and exciting.

    The 1997 NBA Playoffs had plenty of clutch moments, game winning shots, historical performances, and violent confrontations.

      The Bulls had 3 winning shots in the 97 Finals alone

      Which meant the offenses had to be very precise.

    A playoff series that was a majorly forgotten classic. Seattle showed a lot of heart coming back from 3-1, but Houston with the edition of somewhat past his prime but still a REALLY good version of Charles Barkley, ultimately proved to be slightly better than the previous year's WC champion Supersonics.

      Very well said. I was a Barkley fan since I've been following basketball (1992) and what was different between his Rockets years and his Sixers/ Suns years was that he knew the Rockets didn't need him to score 26 ppg so he really dialed in on his rebounding. I didn't check his numbers before the post but I'd bet he was top 5 in the league. He took shots less frequently, which doesn't always necessarily mean high efficiency, but I feel he was able to preserve energy for long games. The 96-97 version of Barkley was still a pretty awesome player. Regressed a bit more each year after

    Seattle losing both games 3-4 at home is what ultimately lost this series for them.

    • @CliffPierson777
      @CliffPierson777 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      And both those games were very close losses right down to the wire.

      The series would have been in their favor if Game 7 was in Seattle

    This game went back and forth like a pendulum. When it seemed one side is about to take control then the other would go on a run.

    Hersey Hawkins and Matt Maloney: the unlikeliest of 3 point heroes

    • @Riles3152
      @Riles3152 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Matt Maloney yes. Hersey Hawkins was a legit 2-guard back in his day. You could absolutely see him making big shots when his team needed it.

  • @Classicbasketballdvds

    absolutely luved this rivalry. The Sonics had the Rockets number from 92/93-96 until the Rockets got Chuck

    • @Kennyisdarkvanilla
      @Kennyisdarkvanilla 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep. Barkley was one of the few who could go at Kemp. Problem was when they got Chuck, they gave up a lot of their 3 point shooting and decent point guards. I think Rockets could have played the Bulls in the Finals if they got Chuck without giving up Sam Cassell.

    • @Classicbasketballdvds
      @Classicbasketballdvds 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree...the point guard position was the missing link imo. I think they needed a solid veteran starting, and with Cassell coming off the bench woulda been crazy. I think if Cassell & Horry were still there, they woulda made it back to the Finals. I heard they were trying to get Derek Harper@@Kennyisdarkvanilla

    The 1997 NBA finals should have been a rematch of the 94 finals but Stern didn't want him step son to play the Knicks or Rockets this year because Jordan would have lost to both of them or at least after a 7 game series with the Knicks he would have lost to the Rockets

    Back when the NBA was enjoyable to watch. Post play, isolation, and team basketball. Nowadays it’s just pick n roll everytime until someone shoots a 3pter. No actual post play. Very few iso plays. Boring to watcy
