I’m always told to never sit in the corner seat. It wasn’t because it was dirty or whatever, but because it was close to the door. On the train I take, many people cart hop the carts, and you’re right next to the door. They always say that you’re the closest so something can happen to you or you can be targeted first if you sit there. I think they say this from experience, but I usually just sit somewhere else

@@shark_kisses5153 Its because they can keep their belongings next to them and take up the whole bench. If they tried that on one of the middle benches people could sneak up and take their stuff. This way their stuff is behind them and against a wall. Also because people dont need to walk past it to get to the doors, it is less likely they will have to move for people to get past or other things. That being said, they are still close too a door, so if they need to get away (for example, from "street cleaners") then they have a quick getaway
For the people who dont know: Those windows sometimes swing open hitting you in the face so if you sit there better be wearing something that covers your face

I’m always told to never sit in the corner seat. It wasn’t because it was dirty or whatever, but because it was close to the door. On the train I take, many people cart hop the carts, and you’re right next to the door. They always say that you’re the closest so something can happen to you or you can be targeted first if you sit there. I think they say this from experience, but I usually just sit somewhere else

For those of you who dont know, as a new yorker these seats are known as the hobo seat and typically will see homeless people sleeping on this seat. But then again you also see them sleeping on the regular seats so reguardless its just as dirty. I sit on that seat as well cause it literally doesn't matter

@@shark_kisses5153 Its because they can keep their belongings next to them and take up the whole bench. If they tried that on one of the middle benches people could sneak up and take their stuff. This way their stuff is behind them and against a wall. Also because people dont need to walk past it to get to the doors, it is less likely they will have to move for people to get past or other things. That being said, they are still close too a door, so if they need to get away (for example, from "street cleaners") then they have a quick getaway

I once got on the last cart of a Manhattan bound 4 line… i walked into the empty cart and got smacked in the face with a powerful feces odor. Someone had taken a dump💩 on that corner seat… i went to the next cart and this lady was fighting with Darnell. She cursed at him, spit at him, threatened him. Darnell had to have been imaginary because she directed her argument towards her reflection in the window. Darnell must have said something horrible that none of us heard because she threatened him with child support.

In Korea, those seats that is in the corner are priority seat for old or handicapped or pregnant people. That's why we don't sit there. But NY does have other reason 🤔

In NYC, it's common for dirty/smelly homeless or crazy people to sit in those seats. I've seen people peeing, using drugs, playing with their feet, being half naked, or humping the seats there. So this person is because saying "Don't sit there, because it's gross."
Those seats are also priority seats for old and disabled people, but tbh most (good) people will vacate their seat for them no matter where the seat is.
Homeless and drug addicts usually take up those seats beforehand. They stick to the corner of subway carts.
