- Today is cleanup day with PLS Bend and the many other volunteers who showed up to help clean up the forest. There were about a dozen campsites that looked like a disaster when we showed up, and now are restored to a nice place that the public can get out into the woods and enjoy again. In addition to the trashed campsites, we also removed five abandoned vehicles, tons of scrap metal, and got rid of other hazards that could contaminate our forest lands. I want to say a HUGE thank you to all of the volunteers that helped out, and all of businesses and organizations that supported the project. Casey, there seems to be a decided and growing consensus here that you have to save that Ford that put up with a tough life to find you again. I have to agree. There is a great automotive story already part way told, and the junk yard is just not an acceptable ending. You need to write a better one, and it seems many of us really want to follow along!

What a great project that Ford is going to make for you. Just get it running and you have a great dump truck you’ll have plus all of the memories. Please don’t let it go to the crusher. over here on the coast near Brookings we have been doing the same thing from old abandoned homeless camps in and around our beautiful state parks it just makes me sick to see the messes they leave for others to clean up. Thanks for all of the time and energy put in to help clean our amazing state up.

The prices of old pickup trucks has gone through the roof here in Norway. That old dump truck with a story would easily sell over here for about USD 10- 12.000.-. Wow, that burned out truck was a mess!! It's a wonder it didn't start a forest fire. When things are going well, appreciate it. If you expect something bad to happen, it will! And you created it. Just because a job doesn't go as you expect it to, doesn't make you look like an idiot. Chaos theory is alive and well in this universe - relax and enjoy it. I think you look like a hero to me, because you care about the environment, and are doing something about it.
For someone who has been homeless this is disgusting what these people have left behind.I always left my camp area cleaner than I found them.

👍tip when using a fixed object to pull off your trailer use a old chain binder in the middle to create a release point for slack chain 👍

Make a bipod/A-frame for trailer that mounts into stake pockets for stability. like a cherry picker, sort of, so can run cable thru snatch block and lift up items over tail end of trailer. Cheaper is better, must be safe tho.
I took my pickup and slide deck trailer to the Gambler 500 last year and my buddy and I pickup up a Tacoma that was rolled upside down and burned out by Prineville. Was a fun adventure

Casey I've used that method of unloading many times. A wise old gentleman showed me how to put a binder in the chain to give you the slack you need when the cargo is unloaded.
That's exactly what I do on a vehicle that even remotely somewhat matters. But on these I can just push them backwards with the trailer and make slack

You should definitely keep the ford truck....it would be awesome to fix it enough to use on future cleanup programs since it is a dump truck and you have been wanting something that dumps.
Sad that we have so many dirt bags who leave their trash on our public lands. I live in the high desert of So Cal and you cannot believe how many people dump their trash in the desert. If someone starts dumping in an area, the dirt bags will continue to dump more.

Casey, an old trick...when using a chain to drag something off a trailer like that, put a binder on so that you can get some slack back if needed. Much better than having to 'ram' things 😅
