I actually bought a hood scoop, turned it into a detachable roof scoop with my sunroof to cool off my car. Cost a fraction of the $600+ that a new AC system would've.
@@LibertyDrives it was definitely a fun project! Driving a car with AC now though sometimes I turn it on and am like Anakin when he starts his pod racer. I looked stupid but worked for me 😂
I just wanted to clarify what you stated about fuel octane. If your car REQUIRES a higher octane and you put a lower octane in it, this WILL decrease both your fuel economy as well as performance because some cars' computers will retard the timing to prevent knocking...
Motor trend channel has a video where they run 87 to 116 race gas through a 383 (NA) crate motor & tune the fuel & timing for peak output with each fuel. Would you be surprised to learn that none of the fuels made more than 2-3 hp difference between 87 & 116? The exception was E85. It made significantly more power over the other fuel choices. Note: 87 made as much power as the 116octane but the testing was done on an engine Dyno where conditions were tightly controlled. If you try running 87 in your 11.5:1 power plant be prepared for less than desirable results as you are in real world where variables aren’t so tightly controlled (primarily heat). Anyway a very interesting and eye-opening video. Octane buys you a margin of safety for you motor. Run what your manufacturer recommends or what your engine builder recommends. Good video sir!
Oversized big wheels are not only ugly, they really hurt ride and handling of any car not designed for them. The suspension system would need to be changed to counteract the lack of tire sidewall. People can do whatever they want to their cars, but that doesn't mean they are doing a smart modification.
My friend had a junker 91 cavalier in highschool back in 04 and he had fake hood scoops on it that actually said "Totally Functional" right on the side of them lmao
Exhausts on there own definitely don’t do much other than sounding good. When my dad first put an exhaust on his truck it sounded good but it didn’t do much, then he got an intake and a full tune on it and now it actually pushes about ~20-30 more HP. It’s also on a V6 Colorado but still a fun truck
The only time I go on about fuel grade is when it comes to newbies in the classic truck/car community. Especially if you're going the stock option route. If you're planning to use stock option carbs or even some early TBI systems, you can't run ethanol gas through them. At least in some cases. Just the only time I'll harp on what fuel grade you use.
You've scarred me for life with that thumbnail picture. Here come the nightmares. I just hope I'm not the owner in those nightmares, and mine better not have curb feelers.
I have a 2014 f150 with a bull bar on the front with KC Daylighters mounted on it. I might used them once a year, if that. Those KC smiley face light covers have been the subject of several compliments I’ve received over the years. People love them for some reason. Lol 😎
The biggest problem I have with custom exhausts is the owners. I don't like people who constantly rev their engines at stop lights or while driving slow down the road; most of them are fart can mods that sound terrible. Also, if they're already compensating for a small protuberance, having that sound coming out of a 12 year old Civic with bad paint isn't going to help. It's not impressing anyone.
Octane should align to your tune. If I run 87 in my truck it will detonate and since my timing is a stand-alone unit without a knock sensor it will never retard the timing. While octane isn’t super important for stock motors it does completely come into play when you start trying to make more power. But you’re right the fuel alone won’t make it any faster.
My buddy got a Geo Metro and he bought a fake hood scoop from Autozone, cut a hole in the hood above the carburetor and cut out the baffle in the hood scoop so essentially it was a functional fake hood acoop
Cold air intake. Modern cars draw intake from outside the engine bay. You most likely have one. An engine is basically an air pump and despite the kinks and resonance chambers in the factory intake, the volume is optimal. the limiting factor is usually the throttle body. Engineers aren’t stupid, and there is no reason to restrict airflow unless there is a packaging issue. You aren’t likely to do better than they did.
I don't think throttle bodies are usually a staple of first engine mods to bring out more power. At some point yeah it's necessary but not until you've done other things first. Messing with the throttle body on it's own probably won't be too beneficial imo
I would say this a lot of cars after search around runs better on some gas than others it varies by car and area never let fuel run low with destroy fuel pump 1/4 tank max also people with 90000 keys on ignition switch it will damage it by to munch weight
I got a cf hood and fenders because they are big metal pieces. And losing weight on a fwd car always help. I also have them painted, because the mismatch color just looks weird. Don't consider gas as a mod though.
So I have one of the most hated cars in the market. 2001 Mitsubishi Spyder GT. I have Megan suspension and some low cost rims that look good, intake and cat back exhaust, with a tune. Although it's not a fast car I love it and it does sound really good. Other than that no fake mods lol.
I'm very much a Corvette guy lol, I think even if I didn't get a Vette some day I'd get a Challenger or Camaro over a Mustang just cause that's my preference, I think they're all great in their own ways though
vents can work you just gotta cut the holes for them, most wings ive seen even from Amazon do function, infact most track racers use fixed wings for a constant downforce
Ok like I know there's some people that like it but I absolutely hate the big diameter wheels on cars like Camaros and Chargers. Never liked it and honestly can't appreciate it either.
Burning a fuel that has a higher octane rating than the engine needs (compression of gases increases the temperature inside the combustion chamber, past a certain point gasoline will auto-ignite. Benzene is added to prevent this) is literally a waste of money my dude. Spark plug material is negligible unless you’ve already beefed up the ignition to allow the spark to jump a larger gap (like going from copper to a platinum electrode). The more important factor in spark plug selection is the “temperature” of the plug, and that’s got more to do with where you’re at currently (climate wise) than it does with producing more power. In most cases the OEM spark plug is the best choice. You can run a hotter plug to help in starting, but if there isn’t enough insulation around the electrode (hotter plugs have less porcelain around the electrode iirc) it becomes a glow plug and can cause spark-knock (auto ignition).
