There is no benefit for Steam considering they are pushing their own hardware, besides steam announced days ago their plans to expand the Steam ecosystem to the other handhelds.
The reason the og Xbox was appealing to me was the fact it had more pc games that came to it. As someone who couldn't keep up with upgrading a pc or wanted to troubleshoot all the time, having a console that just worked hooked me. So if they went more pc design, it would feel more like they went back to their roots.
I love my PC, but it drives me crazy when things get glitchy for no reason. Example: One day recently, my Headphones were turning on my microphone by default, and I had to Troubleshoot the issue. It was a pain. All I wanted to do was listen to music, without having to hear myself breathe! What's worse is the convoluted measures you sometimes have to make to fix the issue. A Plug and Play PC that is like a console, would be a nice addition.
@@SWOTHDRA no, GTA 6 is pointless. I never understood the desire, especially the console version. GTA 5 has the worst 3rd person controls in the industry. and was dated at release. The world is pretty much the only thing going for it, however because of the god aweful game design and dated controls. (worse than it's contemporaries.) I will never understand what makes it a "good" game. It will not sell consoles.
Perhaps for PlayStation seeing as almost all of their games run on PS4, but that's a lack of software issue. The progress of hardware has still been marching on in the background.
@DestinL and you dont think SONY would block their games from it? You do know DEATH STRANDING was on PC gamepass and not XBOX in any way shape or form. Right?

@@chasejackson7248 Now you have finally mentioned ehat videogames you are playing, I hope that you keep this up 🤣 What new games are you looking forward to?
How does Microsoft make money with this? Selling consoles *costs* them money. Selling a hundred million consoles is a hundred million *losses* on their balance sheet. They currently make that back on game sales, but if those sales go to Valve instead there’s simply no profit anywhere in the equation.
@@Newsoul9 No they wouldn't, Valve won't lower their cut and devs would opt out of selling games on this weird PC if they had to give a 30% cut to valve and a 30% to Xbox.
@@Newsoul9 But most xbox users are in game pass, they wouldn't be selling first party IP. Xbox makes the majority of it's sales from 3rd part or microtransactions. If devs stop doing native Xbox ports because they just go "just buy it from steam", how is Microsoft making any money from digital sales? If they aren't making digital sales, they aren't going to subsidize the "console" and it will be sold at or above cost. So it would be over thousand dollars to buy.
You forgot one crucial thing Destin, PlayStation would just block their games on Xbox even if Xbox Next has Steam. PlayStation blocks the ability to play their first party games via GeForce now on Xbox.
Blocking access to games on steam would also mean blocking access to games people have already purchased on steam. Also I can guarantee that Herman Hulst, Hideaki Nishino, Doug Bowser, Shuntaro Furukuwa, Phil Spencer, Matt Booty, Sarah Bond as well as all the other heads of gaming companies/studios/publishers would laugh at you as you literally don't have a clue as to what you are talking about 🤣
It wouldn’t be blocked. Theyre making a PlayStation pc launcher. Those games will need to launch via that and Sony won’t allow access on an Xbox piece of hardware
It's probably easier for Sony to block their games on a would-be Xbox with Steam if that Steam client is made specifically for Xbox OS. If it's a box running full Windows, then maybe Sony can't block their games, though they'll try. Xbox would have to be defined specifically, and behave as a Windows PC in order for Sony not to be able to touch it. So is the supposed future Xbox a console or a PC or can it be both? That's the question.
@@CarlosFernandez-lg6fw No doubt, but really if I wanted that much hassle in my life I would have stayed with my PC. No thank you, I'm too old to be trying to keep up with specs every three to six months and too poor to be able to keep shelling out multiple thousands of dollars every couple of years. That why I prefer console, one purchase for around the price of a GPU and a good CPU and I don't have to think about it anymore. I just play games.
Can't a steamdeck already do all of this? It has all the Xbox and all PS games they have released on PC and it's not dominating the market. Also if Xbox is bringing over all their games then why would people leave PS?
It’s not dominating because it’s not very powerful I don’t care about running PC games at low settings and 30 fps… But if you gave me a console like PC experience with higher settings and frames for $500-600 I’d jump in
We are watching the current "most powerful console ever" sit on shelves and sell less than half of the competitors. The next "most powerful console ever" will have to shake it up drastically, or it will absolutely suffer the same fate. I'm not really sure Satya and the like would be all in on the loss leader hardware angle though, and the power we're talking about here will be expensive all the way around - especially in a hand held
OK, but let's not forget Xbox One stifled the Xbox's momentum, and then MS didn't have adequate exclusives ready for launch (1st, 2nd or 3rd party). The next console will need demonstrable power, services, and compelling exclusives at launch. A portable could be attractive, though that raises the incongruous power couple issue again (Series S and X) if the libraries are identical.
As Nintendo dances in money using a tablet with 2015 tech. Just make unwoke games , but they won't. The new Halo diversity club proves that ain't happening.
Destin I hope the family is doing well man. Also I thought you would continue the trend of just moving the plant in your video and play find the plant in the background
Destin, nice to see more people getting on board with this concept (I noticed Alex mentioned it too). I first talked about it in early February, when guesting on a podcast (also posted a Hot Take on X on Feb 9th). I convinced the panel it made sense. I talked about it again in April on my channel. I've been promoting this for a long time, however as I said it's great to see much larger channels than mine starting to talk about it. Everything you're saying is hilarious to me because it sounds like you've listened to what I said way back (right down to the $700 price lol...). If they ditch the walled garden and build an open system that supports full windows with a controller friendly interface it could be a huge win. It changes the conversation from why buy an Xbox to why buy a PlayStation. It also softens the blow of giving all their games to PlayStation, because they're getting all PlayStations games whether Sony wants them to or not. The Xbox name alone will sell 30M units but I also know PC mains that would buy it for their living room if it gives them access to their Steam library. I talk about it a fair bit in one of my videos on TH-cam as well, channel info in my X profile.
People who think this are going to happen are delusional. The Xbox store subsidize the hardware. Putting steam on it means Xbox makes no money. So the handheld is gonna cost $899 And the actual console over 1k. I'm glad you said this is your fantasy Destin, cause that's exactly what this is, lol
Putting steam on it does not mean XBox makes no money. There are deals that could be made. Don't be so narrowminded. The XBox store and Game Pass can still subsidize the hardware. I agree with you about the pure idiocy being espoused by the content creators that seem to want everyone to pay more for their consoles. Asus charges so much for the RoG because they have to make a profit on it. There is no income after market. It's all about economies of scale.
@@SWOTHDRA I don’t think Sony can block it after the fact. If it’s on Steam it would need to be accessible. Sony would need their own launcher. Sony would be morons to do that.

It's not about the games on steam. It's about having more people in your ecosystem who haven't or won't buy a pc. This would bearing pc games to a console which no console can do right now. Your missing the point!
Selling Game Pass. Thats what microsoft wants to sell. I see your point and thinking about it, if this was the plan, opening the platform, maybe they wouldn’t have made those changes to game pass subscription prices.
I think that's because they will be forced by law in a few years. They (MS) see the storm coming and now surf on the wave in front of the storm to bring 'pro-consumer news' that would otherwise be forced on them in the future. Smart thinking. The writing is on the wall imo.
MS would have to back the Brinks truck up to Valve AND give them a very favorable partnership in this to challenge BOTH their steamdeck and steam with this device.
how are they going to make money if everyone buys games from another store? or are they going to force buyers to have gamepass or the console won't work?
Because XBox would cut a deal with the other store. XBox would invest in said other store. XBox hardware, believe it or not, is on a completely different scale than the hardware of said other store.

@@DestinL Thanks, bro. I've been trying to tell people Xbox's new strategy is the trinity of software, services, and stores. The HW will always be there to highlight those things. This is the way. Love the show btw
Yeah, I've been saying what I think ms will do, a cheaper handheld for the casual (maybe be dockable, maybe), and a premium console for the gaming/console or Xbox enthusiast, so the price will be premium. They ain't selling like ps consoles so it's mainly the hardcore Xbox fans mostly picking them up, and hardcore fans for a product would pay for a premium console. And the handheld for the curious and casual, or just wants access to GP. Remember all the BG3 drama over parity and split screen, well this would no longer be an issue as a handheld is more a personal experience, and you wouldn't expect it to be as powerful as a desktop product, so to expect complete parity between games is irrational. So this in turn would avoid the "X console is holding X console back" talk. As for steam, that would be awesome. As a console gamer I still see games on pc I want, like orcs must die 2, I had to play that on my laptop, I enjoyed it but I'd prefer to play it sitting at my console etc.

Yes, I think having the PC stores and xbox stores on it would consolidate those two markets similar to how Nintendo consolidated the handheld and console market with the Nintendo Switch. Xbox has been hinting at this all along by releasing very pc centric games to the Xbox, along with mouse and keyboard support. What if it was so powerful that it could also just play all previous generations of Xbox natively? I’d also like to see some easier upgrade path instead of having to purchase a whole new console each time.
A $700 console that is setup as a streamlined PC could be fairly powerful. Kinda reminds me of when Steam launched their Alienware Steam Machines, but those did poorly.
I hope your right Destin. I've been playing on Steam for sometime now and I like the option of cheaper games on steam. One issue I have is returning to Destiny 2 on my xbox. The last time I played was Beyond light. I returned to get the expansions through discounts but I would have to buy all the expansions again to play on my PC through steam (when my wife is playing her games on the xbox). If the handheld xbox allowed me to play my Steam and xbox library, it would make it easier. While you can play some xbox games on your PC through game pass, I would love the option to play my entire xbox library on PC. The handheld or new xbox your referring to, would be a no brainer for consumers.
I still keep saying why would Xbox want to promote a direct competitor? If you ask me Steam is actually better than Gamepass. Yes I get you get Day 1 drops on Xbox games but with Steam you get even better deals on actually owning the games and Steam has a way bigger selection of games as well. If push came to shove, I’d rather just buy a steamdeck and use Gamepass occasionally. Thats just me but yeah don’t expose your fans to a competitor that might take customers away. That’s why Sony doesn’t let Gamepass on PlayStation

Not that many people do I guess, but that would surely completely kill the Microsoft / Xbox store once and for all? Sure you'll have Game Pass. Which will keep people engaged in that ecosystem to an extent. But I'm not sure how having your library so disjointed would actually work out. For an Xbox handheld (and maybe even console) work, it needs an OS that's fit for purpose. With them adding 'Compact Mode' to the Xbox app and Game Bar recently my worry is it's just gonna be 'Windows' again. It just adds so much bloat and sluggishness. Microsoft should let other companies make the handheld hardware and just release the Xbox firmware as an iso, which could be installed on basically any handheld you like as long as it meets the minimum hardware specifications.

@ThomasTheTankEngine22 it comes down to licensing. Unfortunately MS runs into lics hurdles either direction. Xbox game's entitlement (3rd party T&C) are for the "XB OS" & vice versa for PC side on Steam. MS will even have trouble bringing 3rd party XB games to a "Windows handheld" ... this is why not all games are Play Anywhere today.
Bro it still feels like this Gen hasn't even kicked off
It hasnt, it will kick off with GTA6, next year
@@SWOTHDRA no, GTA 6 is pointless. I never understood the desire, especially the console version. GTA 5 has the worst 3rd person controls in the industry. and was dated at release. I will never understand what makes it a "good" game. It will not sell consoles.
Perhaps for PlayStation seeing as almost all of their games run on PS4, but that's a lack of software issue. The progress of hardware has still been marching on in the background.

How does Microsoft make money with this? Selling consoles *costs* them money. Selling a hundred million consoles is a hundred million *losses* on their balance sheet. They currently make that back on game sales, but if those sales go to Valve instead there’s simply no profit anywhere in the equation.
GamePass, I think this is Microsofts goal, get everyone on GamePass eventually
They would get a % cut for every sell
@@Newsoul9 No they wouldn't, Valve won't lower their cut and devs would opt out of selling games on this weird PC if they had to give a 30% cut to valve and a 30% to Xbox.
@darkdeath174 I'm referring to every game sell that's xbox 1st party IP.
Just having the PC store on the next xbox hybrid console
@@larrymcdaniel1658that would be the move.

Remember all the BG3 drama over parity and split screen, well this would no longer be an issue as a handheld is more a personal experience, and you wouldn't expect it to be as powerful as a desktop product, so to expect complete parity between games is irrational. What if it was so powerful that it could also just play all previous generations of Xbox natively? I’d also like to see some easier upgrade path instead of having to purchase a whole new console each time.

If the handheld xbox allowed me to play my Steam and xbox library, it would make it easier. While you can play some xbox games on your PC through game pass, I would love the option to play my entire xbox library on PC. The handheld or new xbox your referring to, would be a no brainer for consumers.

most xbox gamers have a handheld just for that reason. i know a lot of xbox gamers have a steam deck or Rog Ally.
XBox gamers are not dreaming of this, in general. A couple of them, in particular, the Pro SteamDeck guys, are jonesing for it, but in general, XBox gamers couldn't give a flip.
so have steamdeck users lost their minds too?? itd be an xbox/pc, steamdeck can run all the sony games that are on steam,so sony would have to open up their system too,so ps owners could use all the xbox games on ps6,microsoft is forxing sony to do what they dont want
Whatever the case I feel Microsoft resorts to sleezy practices instead of just making quality games. They've had 20 years to figure something out and they've just ended up playing dirty
Sleezy is still gatekeeping your games to force people to buy your console and Sony been doing that for years 🤑🤑. They don’t care about you.
Microsoft should let other companies make the handheld hardware and just release the Xbox firmware as an iso, which could be installed on basically any handheld you like as long as it meets the minimum hardware specifications.
What a stupid idea, it would just be a cheap steam box with the crappy xbox ecosystem ignored.
I wish xbox would make an update for homepage customization! Wouldnlove to go back to the xbox 360 lobby even with avatars, etc. Or any hud that was previously made!
Bro you literally get all of that now if you get a pc
200 million console users every gen. At least half just aren’t PC gamers
Yes. And if Xbox can make a console that’s more like a PC and more open, but easy to use like the console peeps like I think it would sell like crazy
@@DestinLwe have that already. It’s called the Steam deck.
Yea for 2000 dollars to run modern games decently 😂, you think Xbox will charge that much for their next
Console?
I think we mean that it firstly xbox and that it can boot up steam games thru a layer or smth vs its a classic windows that can also play games. Also, if MS manufactures it we will get a resonable price and performance. I think max price that console people are willing to pay is 600-700 USD
As a PS5 main. Id love if they made Xbox Great Again. But i got a feeling were going to get a series x switch hybrid. Where the handheld connects to the console. And makes it stronger.
It would sell like hot cakes 😉
That sounds all well and good, but Xbox always seems to step on a rake and screw it up. Sorry I sound so pessimistic, but Xbox has yet to earn my trust.
It's always the next year when we'll finally see Xbox dominating the whole industry, 2025 will be just as impressive for Xbox as 2024 is supposed to be, just wait...
That is a stupidly smart idea but I can't help but feel something is gonna get in the way.
Wishful thinking Destin. I doubt it will happen. Sony and Microsoft would have to agree to this. That’s just how business works
Sony doesn't own steam. What's there to agree to?
@ThomasTheTankEngine22 it comes down to licensing. Unfortunately MS runs into lics hurdles either direction. Xbox game's entitlement (3rd party T&C) are for the "XB OS" & vice versa for PC side on Steam. MS will even have trouble bringing 3rd party XB games to a "Windows handheld" ... this is why not all games are Play Anywhere today. This is still achievable, just significant contract riders involved either route (XB OS or Windows OS). Yea, I'm aware XB OS is technically Frankenstein Windows but it's still distinguishable & walled off.
@@JAGO_Techthey would have to pull their games from steam, to stop them from selling on an Xbox with steam
E se a Xbox, Microsoft fizer uma opção de subscrição com a nova consola, pagar com prestações? Junto com game pass?! Seria épico... A nova consola estaria em todas as casas...
Sony have a Contact with steam, it can stop thé New xbox
This xbox will have a configuration easy to detect and stop.
Hmm... Gee, I wonder who else has contacts at Steam. Who at Steam happened to start his Career at Microsoft? Who is very chummy with XBox leadership, at Steam... 🤔
True
@@vaguedreams ITS NOT the PROBLEM; STEAM WORK with sony and dont want to loose her game. Steams dont care xbox, its just to control the new xbox faor confirme the sony game wait on steam. If the new xbox is en Mini PC that mean xbox leave the consol, and sony will help xbox for this this good move
@@ahmedseghiri What games? Do you think Sony games make a significant amount of Valve's money?
Valve couldn't care less about any single publisher but if they did do you think it would be Sony, or Microsoft who is now one of the the LARGEST gaming publisher in the world? The company that brought them Activision back to Steam. The company that brought Blizzard to Steam. The company that owns Bethesda and all their games.
You really think Sony would be more important than XBox now?
@@vaguedreams steam buy abk game and xbox with the gamepass is an enemy for steam. If sony say stop this consol steam will accept.
If Xbox and PlayStation work together
They can’t make another POWERFUL CONSOLE nobody is buying an expensive Xbox…most people would just buy a pc
Personally as a console gamer id rather buy a more powerful Xbox over a pc still, because I like consoles and I like Xbox, and I'm betting the majority of Xbox owners would do the same, hence why they bought an Xbox.
@@jingtroc23 I bought the series X and sold it a year ago & don’t miss it at all…Xbox hardware sales are abysmal anyone that thinks they can sell a 700 dollar Xbox in high numbers is sniffing glue
Exactly this, why would somebody buy this instead of a Rog ally ,or legion go?
@@americanmack30exactly, they cant even sell a 280$ xbox series s!
No most people wouldn't lmfao
I would absolutely love that. I prefer a console for many reasons but I would absolutely love to be able to play some steam games on console. This would be a real game changer to the industry ❤
2:41 come on, Xbox is almost non-existant at this point, what competition are you talking about ?
More people playing Xbox games than the other 2 console platforms but go on.
Higher player base on Xbox ecosystem, so what you talking about?. Gamepass has now surpassed 35m, so what you talking about. Xbox is at Gamescom ps isn't, so what you talking about. Xbox slayed E3/summer games event, so what you talking about?. Sony keep following xbox's path, so what you talking about?. Sony need to use ms azure, and Minecraft, and cod, so what you talking about?. Without Xbox ps would not have trophies as Sony copied xbox's achievements, so what you talking about. Ms Xbox got so many games ponies at begging for them, so what you talking about. Ps lacking games so ms has to keep them eating by giving them Xbox games, so what you talking about?. Ms Xbox games sell great on ps, so what you talking about. Ponies don't buy games on ps or exclusives, so what you talking about?. Sony messed up and lost money on bungie and now made employees from bungie redundant, so what you talking about?. I could go on but you get it
@@jingtroc23 basically… what they talking about?
@@TheBean87 😂 yeah
There are now almost more Xbox exclusives on PlayStation than there are Sony exclusives on PlayStation 😊and that’s great now pony’s can try all of the games Xbox doesn’t have( according to Sony pony’s)😂
It makes sense. Almost all of my friends growing up from 360 era are on pc now. So many people are moving in the pc direction
Sony would never allow that. It's honesly that simple.
Sony won't have a choice though. imagine the class action law suit if if Xbox puts steam on their next console and Sony suddenly pulls all the games from steam.
@@Scarface1602 What class lawsuit? It's Sony games. It simply won't happen.
@@Scarface1602sony wont have to pull anything, the psn overlay will simply detect the hardware and when the hardware is not steamdeck or rog or msi or legion, the game gets blocked from playing
@Scarface1602 it's sonys ip they absolutely have a choice where their games are played.
@@Scarface1602Why would Sony lose a lawsuit over their own first party IPs on where they go? It’s literally up to no one on where they should go other than Sony themselves. Same goes for Microsoft and Nintendo in terms of their games.
Wishful thinking or not, I would buy a multi-store console in a heartbeat. I moved over to PC gaming because I wanted access to more games. If they bring that availability back to my couch, I'm 100% in.
Xbox won’t dominate shit what don’t you guys get
We are right now witnessing the most insane Xbot delusion in history. Worse than the Xbox One era
@@ImViruxx I’m honestly laughing everytime I see an Xbox video come up

Naaaaw, but they allready are dominating, poor little schnoukums... 😂
I love the idea and id be all in, but doesnt games have separate right? Like a console license, pc license, handheld license, mobile license etc? If the next xbox is a pc, then how does Xbox give you the console version of the game, and vice versa
Make a plug and play console that would be like a PC. Maybe offer a regular model and a 'PRO' model with better graphics. Although it would be less modular/up-gradable than a regular gaming PC, the user should be able to add and change M.2 NVME/SSDs. also offer, a USB port to support an external drive. I love my custom PCs, but I would also love an, all in one Box, that is Uniform, offering a Dependable system that is built to be stable.
Even having my main gaming PC, I wouldn't be opposed to having a 2ND XBOX-PC to serve back up duty. ( As a rule, I try to keep two computers up anyway) It would be nice to have a plug and play system, that is dependable and stable, even if it isn't as fast, powerful or modular as your main Gaming PC. Just make it good enough, for this generation.
Aww it’s so cute to see that so many xbots still have so much faith and hope into future Xbox consoles 🥺

If the next Xbox will be a console/PC hybrid, which can also play Steam/Epic/whatever PC store games it will be my first Xbox since the 360 in 2012.
@destin what are you thoughts on black myth being secretive on the ps5 port?
This makes sense! I expect Xbox will be very much like PC in future to where all PC apps and games work on it. We might see new ui too. You bring up some great points. People forget Microsoft owns so much and owns windows so there is alot of options Microsoft has.
The steam deck will probably never get a sequel. But I think the Xbox handheld will be like the successor to it because it plays all steam games and Xbox games. If all this is happens then we all win as gamers because no not exclusives locked to one device.
This is definitely a possibility! One problem for Steam is that the new xbox handheld, if it's specs are better, and it can play Steam games, that would destroy the steamdeck sales going forward... The only counter would be is they release a steamdeck 2 that has better specs then the xbox handheld but can they afford to release it at a competitive price if xbox continues to sell consoles at a loss to recoup the money in game sales? Interesting discussion though! 👍
You're on to something, Destin! That would be a great scenario. Break the walls down!
