    I don't know what it is, but I love how there's a certain charm of seeing CGI printed on film. It's kinda impressive and magical.

    I saw this for the first time when I was 5 years old. I was at the cinema to see “Twister” with my dad and this came up before the film started.
    I felt like “Geezzzz. What an amazing theme for sound check” (I didn’t know what Dolby was)
    But it was a very good memory about seeing films in cinemas and soundcheck before the film begins.

    Seems to be less saturated (especially in the sky) than the version on LaserDiscs and DVDs. Is this a faded print?
    Probably because I'm used to it, I prefer the neon blues of the video version, and the Dolby Digital logo at the end is more abrupt in the film version, in spite of the video version's end being jarring in relation to the low FPS city animation.

    • @ChristopherSobieniak
      @ChristopherSobieniak 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      RkivUnderground Sometimes that's possible. I think one explanation for that is perhaps due to this animation having been produced digitally rather than on film, and transferring that to film probably shifts the color timing around a little bit due to the conversion.

    • @ChristopherSobieniak
      @ChristopherSobieniak 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      RkivUnderground This is similar to the way some people noticed differences in how Pixar's Toy Story had looked on video when it first came out on VHS compared to it's later home video releases due to the fact they used a film master over a digital source.

      I'm surprised you never heard of LD, how old are you ? It's a two sided 12 inch disc that looks like a CD, with analog picture and digital sound. Laserdisc was the noble source for home theater back in the 90's, with its phenomenal uncompressed digital sound, Dolby Surround and then 5.1 (Dolby AC-3 at the time). Laserdisc was also highly sought after for the huge collector editions and boxsets, along with state of the art beautiful covers.

      You didn't mean Dolby SR Digital?

    • @RkivUnderground
      @RkivUnderground 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think he's referring to the standard of Dolby Digital prints having an analog SR track as mandatory. Because of this, most people in the film projection industry refer Dolby Digital as SRD.
      I believe there are three versions of the "Train." The first had the older Dolby Stereo Digital logo and is said to have the best mix out of the three. The second was an extended version of the first with a more neutered mix. The third is the standard trailer length with the gold, newer Dolby Digital logo with a mix somewhere between the first and second in terms of quality and dynamics. I think you can find a variation of the first one on some LaserDiscs (Stargate and True Lies have this) but there's no telling (with my knowledge and resources) if the mix is identical to the first theatrical run. I used to see the third trailer (as well as "Rain") at the Landmark Bethesda Row Cinema in Maryland before films when they used to run 35mm.

    I know I saw this in front of /at least/ one film back in the 2006-2008 timeframe, but I was not even a child at that point, so I forget which one it was.
    From informed opinions and archived tickets, I have narrowed it to a few candidates.
    Cars at the Northland 7 in 2006 (less than a year before it closed forever, probably the only time I was in there and I can't remember anything else about it, and I might have the memory confused with WALL-E below)
    Kung Fu Panda at the Galaxy 16 in 2008 (The Galaxy being essentially the good theatre in town at the time, and unfortunately it still is considered that)
    WALL-E at the Galaxy 16 in 2008 (I vaguely remember this showing before the film, and a bit of the film itself)
    Quantum of Solace at the Galaxy 16 also in 2008 (this to me seems like the most likely candidate for obvious reasons, but why would my parents, in their right mind, take their [then] 5-year-old son to a James Bond film?)
