I spent a ridiculous amount of hours on this game. I'll never forget that time in my life. I even named one of my cats Alfina❤ Legend of Dragoon is another amazing game I'll never forget 😍
I actually really enjoyed this game. I've played through this game in 40 hours during my original playthrough, and beaten it again in just 25 hours. I maybe wouldn't say the story is quite as memorable as the first two games but the gameplay and combat are easily my favorite part about this game. I also really enjoyed the voice acting since Yuki was voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch who voiced acted Ichigo from Bleach, and Miranda was voiced by Michelle Ruff who played as Rukia also from Bleach, and Alfina was voiced by Stephanie Sheh who also voiced Orihime from Bleach. so the whole time I was playing through a game with voice actors I easily recognized and that made the game a lot of fun for me.
I'm of the opinion that no Grandia game will ever top the original title. Maybe I'm in the minority, and that's ok. Justin and his friend's story will always be my favorite.

1000%. The original Grandia was the first game I ever preordered as a kid. It holds a special place in my heart. As much as I loved Grandia 2, 3 and Extreme, the whimsical nature and adorable heartfeltness with Justin & co is just unparalled. Even TO THIS DAY, it's still one of my favourite JRPGs of all time. Needless to say, I immediately bought the digital HD remaster for PS4 and preordered the limited physical copy too :D. Grandia 1 and 2 are fucking masterpieces. Grandia 3 and Extreme are still really good, but not as good as thhe first two, imo. Here's hoping they do put out a remaster for 3 and Extreme later too! Hope the HD Remaster collection sells well and gives em' that thought!
While I liked Grandia 3, not as much as the first 2 games, but for me it felt incomplete. For example the story to me felt rushed in the second half and it felt like the devs wanted to do more with the airplane and let you explore and go to more out of the way areas, but you can't. Like that one island where they have plane races, you can see it on the map and fly by it, but you can't go to it. But I do agree the combat is the best part of Grandia 3 and is at least worth one play through if you liked the previous two games.
For grandia 1 you're probably better of emulating the Saturn version if you have the technical know how. The 'remaster' while functional, is a bit of a mess.

But the port retains the graphical imperfections from the playstation version while adding an ugly filter on the original sprites (and also getting rid of a few sprites). So the Saturn version is still the definitive version. The other versions are viable though
I was hoping for a grandia that combined the best of both the psx and saturn. Kinda like how i want a castlevania sotn that combines the psx and saturn bits, tho i know theres a saturn hack that came out recently thats fixed slowdown and transparencies on the saturn version, adds in 4mb cart compatability and lotsa other fixes etc.
Is a very good game what is still keeps the "journey" theme of Grandia 1 and 2 but is very different than the first 2 Games. I still liked 3 but 1 and 2 are definitely my favorites.
As someone who adored the first 2 games, Grandia 3 is kinda "disappointing", make no mistake it is still a excellent game worth checking out but definitely below 1 and 2, at least for me.
When I bought Grandia III I was really hyped for it. It was beautiful! The battle system was reportedly refined to perfection! The music!! *THE STORY AND PROGRESSION IS ABSOLUTE ASS. GASSY ASS. GASSY **_DOG_** ASS.* Everything is just bloody _boring._ The story is "love conquers all" and that's it. And yeah, I do NOT want to ever play this ever again and have to go through _7+ layers of a _*_normal cave_*_ without save points._ *ASS!!!*
This is my second favorite of the trilogy. I like the setting more then the first two games and always have a soft spot for games with an Engineer or Mechanic protagonist. Still there's something about the first game I prefer though its close enough it might change depending on my mood.
I remember getting it in college and it was my second Grandia after Extreme. I got about 60-70% of the way through and just got bored. The combat system is, as always, great though. Def. need to finally play 1 & 2 with the HD collections now.
Grandia 3 is a mixed bag for me! Combat was good, but as you illustrated I had to REALLY WORK to avoid game breaker builds to enjoy the game! Something I didn't have an issue with playing 1 & 2. And storywise yeah while I did enjoy Grandia 3 story, compared to 1 & 2, ESPECIALLY 1 as ALOT of the Expies in this game as you can see in this game (good god so many felt like retreads! When I first played the game having only played 2 and XTREME as I ONLY got to play 1 after I got the PS3 as I couldn't find a copy of 1 ANYWHERE back on the PS2! Dreamcast was where I first played G2 and was introduced to the entire series as a whole! I didn't know about the cast of the first game, and Grandia 2 didn't do many RETREADS like 3 did! So when I finally PLAYED 1 and replayed 2 and 3 just recently this year, I NOTED that G3 used WAY too many retreads then 2 did where 2 was similar to 1, but felt like a different flavor! And 3 felt like it took the first two games, drained SOME parts out, before mixing them together like how you MIX Mana Eggs in G3!) The ORBS I used may once EACH when I got them to see what they did and then avoided using them again minus a few situations that felt BUILD to force you to use them HELLO BOSS OF THE MELC RUINS! I mean really only TWO of them were ever really useful while the rest were something you already could get from Magic or Special Moves! I guess the DIFFICULTY SPIKE was them taking into mind how much FREEDOM they gave you to make GAMEBREAKERS without taking into mind LEGIT and Challenge type players who don't touch game breakers! I stubbornly KEPT to my and I HATE Casino's in JRPG specifically when they GATE good shit behind the PRIZE EXCHANGE! I refuse to GRIND them And Grandia 3 INCREASED that hatred with how the Master BOOK was IN THE CASINO for a NEAR HIGH price! The Eggs as Prizes you can just make when you can fuse them, but I REALLY think from now on Casino's should have PRIZES you have an ALTERNATIVE to get them, you just have to WAIT abit longer unless you got the patience to try the Casino to get them SUPER EARLY! That would be more fare then LITERAL FUCKING IN-GAME PAYWALLING shit! Plus I HATED how Miranda and Alonso as I was JUST liking the latter disappear from the plot completely when they go! Miranda I liked cause I felt G1 WASTED Lily, Justin's Mom when they mentioned she use to be this bad ass pirate, so seeing Miranda as a MIX of Sue and Lilly was nice! at least have them come back for the Finale at the very least! I even would have liked to have seen Miranda when seeing her FUTURE GRANDCHILD at the end of the game, but NOPE it's like she DIDN'T EXIST anymore! You might as well have killed her off! I get boat travel is LONG where Alonso was going to fill out the rest of the map, but I feel the adventure from when she left to when shit got REAL should have been MORE time enough for them to have come back when shit hit the fan to help, even if they don't return to the party or only for a few fights! A part of me wants a Grandia 4, but I'll be happy if we get a spiritual successor that utilizes the Combat, Mana Egg and Skill Books/Skills systems where Grandia 3 left off to avoid the mistakes XTREME and G3 did, especially story! But I will say I have a good tolerance and enjoyed the interactions of the party and NPC in this game as I did in Granda 1 & 2! Much better then Grandia XTREME trapping you in a Hub Town that barely changes SIGH (What MADE Grandia great to me WAS the interactions with the party and NPC that gave LIFE and character to the world) but as noted, Grandia 3 felt incomplete with ALOT of things dummied out and you can feel it ESPECIALLY once Miranda and Alonso leave! I'd say if I rated story for all FOUR games in the series (I DON'T count the GBC entry) then it would be Grandia 2 and 1 tied for first, and XTREME in last place! Gameplay, G3 surpasses XTREME yes, but Grandia 2 is at the top as I recently beat the game on HARD mode on my Switch! Grandia 1 ironically is the "Just right" for me on gameplay difficulty! It's rare that I like "The original first entry" in a series, but then it's likely in Grandia 1 case, because it had the LEAST game breakers, well at least till you get to Endgame but by then you usually needed them! But in the case of Grandia 3, I feel they went WAY to hard on trying to FIX the difficulty issue seeing how the G2 was too easy! Wish they DID do more with the Skill Books as Mana Eggs had fusion, but the Books got JACK SHIT! But hey, at least it was FUN compared to XTREME! Hence in the games I would replay! I replay 1 & 2 ALOT, 3 I would replay on occasion, XTREME I'm happy to play it ONCE! But 1 & 2 have the STORY, G3 story is AT LEAST good enough ESPECIALLY compared to XTREME to warrent a replay and gameplay is LEAGUES better! So funny how the NUMBERS on games that aren't connected is better then the one that DIDN'T number itself! Grandia is about the ADVENTURE! More then the fights in my opinion
Nothing beats grandia 1 this game was just something else the story was marvelous the battle system was unique in that time it was just awesome to play.
Will there ever be a new Grandia? I’m new to the series, but love everything I’ve played of it. Had I played it when it released the nostalgia would probably have me saying it’s a favorite. Even without that, it’s up there
Played it ages ago. And loved it. Though it always bothers me when RPGs include these metal slime, wiki wiki, lucky minx creatures. Sure I can grind them, but should I have to? by the time they are actually killable you no longer need the experience. It is like a taunt. Other than that liked it better than GD 2 to be honest, thought you may recognize my profile pic if you played it enough. Didn´t even know Grandia Xtreme was a thing. Will have to give a shot now. Nope I pretty much agree with your take. I'll give credit where it's due however. Grandia 3 had gorgeous background scenery. But the story was so bland that I can't really remember it. We are in desperate need of a Grandia 4 so that the bitter taste of extreme and 3 can be wasted away.
For the most part I agree with the story being mediocre but I do remember playing this game so long ago cuz of how fun the combat was. Had some nice music for a ps2 game too.
I loved the story of part 2. But i barely remember part 3 at all. I remembered i was bored & was happy it was over. Back in the day, i thought i had to beat every game i got. If not i would be throwing money away 🤷🏾♀️ but i liked yhe combat system in it. I feel differently nowadays. If i don't like something... I'm not going to play it or watch it. My life is too short for all that
i finished grandia 3 probably 3 or 4 times, their are some rare weapons and items to collect besides that no real side missions expect the one in the city with the detective boy but it's really boring. the story is somewhat okay until the point where miranda and alonso leave so pretty early. i like the art style very much but the conversations are way too cheesy. combat is fun but too easy, it's way too easy to do aerial finishes so every battle basically becomes a chase for aerial finishes which is no challenge. Their is a speaking whale flying in the skies not many people know about but it serves no point. for me grandia 3 is better than grandia xtreme which was just a grind tbh but i understand why the series died with grandia 3. i wish they would give the series one more chance with a new grandia 4. btw i remember data mining the disc and found a name for a city or location that is not in the game so probably cut content.
This one was by far my least favorite of the series. I felt like the character development and overall story was very weak compared to the others. I honestly got bored and just finished it because i had started.
the story and characters felt bland to me if not boring.. specially on second half through the game.. the gameplay is fun.. but it's not a big leap compared to grandia 2 or xtreme..
The World is beautiful, the 360° camera is very immersive the airplane is cool and the soundtrack is great I am from germany, we never got a localisation 😒

This was my first Grandia and I have it down as the best rpg combat system I've ever played. Everything else was middling.
I made it to the end of the game but my disk was scratched. Never finished it. My friend gave it to me. Grandia 2 is still my all time favorite.

To me this one lacked the color and vibrancy of grandia. So many dull colors and browns.

the story and characters felt bland to me if not boring.. specially on second half through the game..
the gameplay is fun.. but it's not a big leap compared to grandia 2 or xtreme..

The World is beautiful, the 360° camera is very immersive
the airplane is cool and the soundtrack is great
