OK. I'm back. My confidence was shaken when it came time to the little stick and hook part, but it's done. In the first attempt at water, we had a leak. 😬 But it was a simple fix that we thought we actually had right. The water hose was crooked. When I say we, as in my son and I. Honestly, this was such a good lesson in how we work together, how we communicate, and how we can have grace with one another. He's 21 yrs old and raised by my single self, and I appreciate us learning together. I can tell you now that we both know how to change out a sink. Hopefully it won't take as long next time. 😅 We had the tools but lacked knowledge. There were so many life lessons, all just from changing a sink. 🙏🏾 Anywho, thanks again. ❤

It's shaped so that the smaller side actually pulls up into the sink hole slightly. Overall a decent install, and no leaks speaks for itself.

I did it ya’ll! First time I’ve tried something like this! I’m a woman and no one taught me how to fix things as I was growing up but TH-cam for the win! (I also fixed my car from a TH-cam video once too!). Thank you Chris! I watched a lot of faucet replacement videos and this one is so much more comprehensive and fully beginner friendly. I ran into some oddities when I was doing it, like a custom shape and weirdly placed hole in the sink and my mounting piece couldn’t anchor properly, but this video made me feel so confident and comfortable that I improvised using the old mounting plates from the old faucet to support the new mounting plate and it worked perfectly! I can’t thank you enough Chris. I’ve been dealing with this old broken down faucet for 6 years. I’m so proud of myself that I’ve been sending before and after sink pics to my friends all day. 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks Chris, I’m not sure you know how empowering this simple sink fix is! I think I’m going to tackle my kitchen sink faucet next!

If there is some biuldup happening in the valve over time it doesnt render it uncloseable cause you can then break that loose by opening the valve a little and afterwards it should be good to close.

Love to see you doing vids like this. As someone who works as a plumber, this is almost exactly how it would be done professionally. A few things for next time, the gasket on the pop-up drain has the beveled edge facing the sink so it seals, and it would be a good idea to hold the cut off valves while replacing the supply lines so you don't risk breaking a water line. This isn't right or wrong, but I like to take the drainage out first, then do everything else, and re-install the drain last. It gives you more room in the cabinet. All in all great video keep up the good work. I would 100% recommend to someone

Another common reason for slow drains? A clogged vent at the roof. Also, i do tend to prefer a basin wrench for water lines, a cheap tool to buy, but perhaps not worth it if you don't use it often. An adjustable works just fine, just with more colourful words in super tight spaces. Haha
Great video as always Chris. Its always great to see your video posts. Hope everyone is staying safe. Take care.

Very true about the roof vents - every winter around when temperatures dip below -30°C we tend to have ice form in our roof vents, so our drains are slower and when the washer drains, you hear it through the kitchen sink. At least those clogs fix themselves by March!

I like using WD-40 to help with installation. Also kitchen sinks that are one handle have an O-ring when it leaks at the stem- you use an allen wrench on the back to remove the handle to get to the O-ring.

Great tutorial. I would like to add, if I may, a time and knuckle saving tip. The plastic nuts that hold the faucet on the sink from below are big enough to slide over there supply hoses. This means you can attach the hoses to the faucet before you install it. Doing this means you don't have to try and get a wrench up behind the sink basin. If you have ham hands like me this space is always to tight. Now you can slip the nut up around the hose to the bottom of the faucet and hand tighten. There are a couple of different specialty wrenches that are designed to work in tight spaces that help with this but I have found they are not necessary If you attach the hoses in advance.

    • @chrisfix

Love your channel Chris! Been watching it for years. Just a little advice from someone who’s installed about a thousand faucets. Considering I use to be a plumber. You put the rubber gasket upside down that connects to the bottom of the sink. I always liked to put pipe dope on it too and also every time I connect any tubular drainage. No worries tho if it doesn’t leak who cares. Just throwing it out. Thanks for all your great content.

    • @P_RO_
      @P_RO_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@chrisfix Most folks don't understand how these sink drains work. Where you lined up the overflow isn't necessary; there's an annular space between the drain tube and sink casting to ensure water will drain however it's oriented. And there's no point in using plumbers putty under the top piece like you do with kitchen sinks since it doesn't need to seal there; anything getting past it goes into that annular overflow space and drains correctly. The narrow end of the conical washer goes up like Tyler said; this centers the drain in the opening. There should be a washer between that and the nut (paper, plastic, or metal). Do not overtighten that nut or you can strip out the threads where the top piece is attached but it needs to be snugged well. Whenever you change a part in a drain which uses slip rings, it's best to loosen all the slip connectors slightly until it's assembled to realign things, then tighten the slip rings in order from top (inlet) to wall (outlet). None of the drain pipe should need to be tightened with tools; if it doesn't seal like that you need new slip ring, but sometimes an extra 1/16 turn will work. Now wipe it all well with a dry towel or paper towels. And always fill the sink, ensuring the overflow is working, then dump the sinkfull of water down the drain all at once. If you see water, fix it and try again. If you see no water wipe each joint one at a time with toilet paper which will show even a tiny trace of leakage. I'm a Master Carpenter who learned what I know of plumbing from a NYC-licensed Master Plumber where plumbing inspections are the tightest in the world.
Glad this went well and super-easy for you- there's about a dozen things which could have happened which would require specialized tools and/or a different approach to get the job done. With some of those problems toy can easily create a nightmare for the plumber you'll have to call to fix things and he's going to charge you for that, so if things are beyond what you know, stop; while you're ahead. DIY is great till you get in over your head and make expensive avoidable mistakes.

I decided to finally replace my bathroom faucet -- and I knew you were the right video because my old faucet is the same as yours :) thanks for clear and concise directions for this old lady.

This will no doubt be the only actually educational April fools day video I watch 😂. Fantastic as always, even if not about cars. Love it!

Awesome to see you make a vid on a faucet replacement! That was a treat to see. I’m a plumber and you did a fantastic job the entire way through! Only thing is the black gasket on the drain should be fine side up, but other than that awesome tutorial!

I remodel homes, and yeah the black gasket for the drain should have been the other way around.

I just watched your video and changed out a broken, noisy old faucet! Had it not been for the ridiculously awkward tight space I had to work in, I could have changed it in 30 minutes watching your video. Great job and thank you!

I don't think you need to align the drain hole with the sink hole, because there's that hollow ring line on the inside which if the holes aren't aligned, the water or whatever will go through that hollow line ring whatever. All though, I would still align the holes just for good measure.
Never heard someone explain something as good as Chris, at least for something like this.

dont think its needed to get align those holes either. but ill align them anyway, cuz it is nothing hard to do and i just like to make things perfect. and Chris is really amazing, try to have everything detailed in the videos, even not entirely correct on this one. No DIYer so far have i seen that explains things to such detail in videos.

For a few extra seconds of work, I would do my best to align them, but it's good to see it would still work even if it's installed backwards!

    • @OldBenOne

Aligned means better flow and some cheap sinks do not have the clearence in that space.
