    The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time introduced a lot to the Zelda series. The thing we're going to be focusing on today though is something that has always perplexed me. When we dive into the Royal Family Tomb and make our way past the ReDeads, we learn the iconic Sun's Song. But... shouldn't this song behave differently? What would really happen if such a song actually existed? Join me for another deep dive into all things Zelda as we tackle another oddity in the land of Hyrule: Zelda's DEADLIEST Song!

    I believe the Sun's Song moves time. Hence the Big Goron working on repairing his sword for 3 days. If the Sun's Song didn't advance time, he would not have finished the Sword yet.

    • @sesshorin738
      @sesshorin738 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      However the running man doesn't move and from what I'm aware is not always is the same place at the same time so maybe link decides who he can effect. Link needs the sword so he allows the goron to escape time.

    • @Incrementium
      @Incrementium 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@sesshorin738 Better to assume it has area of effect radius, because a "choice" would require knowledge of who is around.
      The speed of the running man could be a perceptual illusion, or it could be true that he's some of demonic entity lol
      Or it could be that the song is an area of effect kind of deal, where a certain radius is effected or something.
      A "choice" of who it effects would require foreknowledge of who is around, otherwise how would they be able to select people to effect if you don't know who's there?
      Granted you can count the number of people on your fingers and toes probably. so Link MIGHT be able to assume Running Man is there.
      The sword crafting point is more note worthy to me, because things in the immediate vicinity are more likely to be effected if it is AoE.

      @@sesshorin738 That's a game mechanic, the fact that there running man never once mentions your actions means him not moving when you shift time isn't happening "in the story". Its called ludonarrative dissonance and every gamer should be aware of what it is by now.

    What if the Sun's Song just doesn't do anything to everyone in the game, but it just speeds up time for you. Not for Link, for you, as a player. To you, it's going really fast, but to Link, it's at a normal pace and he just stands there thinking whatever the Sun's Song does will happen anytime

  • @herosshade2247

    I know you already brought up game mechanics, but there is a guard who stands in front of Kakariko Village who tells you the time, which changes whenever you play the song. And if you do the Biggoron Sword sidequest, you can use the Sun's Song a few times to skip to when Biggoron is finished forging the weapon (he says it will take a few days). The fact that NPCs run at the same speed is more hardware limitation than anything.

    Big problem with this theory: Hyrule is not earth. At no point in the series have we been given a planetary model.
    For all we know, it could be a misshapen frisbee tossed past a tiny sun by giants, or an enclosed universe with macroscopic quantum effects where only what is observed really exists.
    On top of that, you don't know if the spin accelerates. It's just as possible that the perception of time slows down for sentient beings. That would tie in with the effect it has on re-deads: It freezes them.

      That is entirely beside my main point, but let's see..
      I remember some spherical objects, but none of them with a map projected on them. But then, that could easily be just my memory failing me.
      In any case, a planetary model needs more than a globe. It would need to show the sun, hyrule's planet, and its moon, along with their paths of movement.
      Maybe the giants are not playing frisbee, but passing a ball. Who knows?

      Mostly a speculation channel dealing in hypothesis that are barely functional and calling it the answer. Not double checking his facts and other things thus leading to wrong conclusions. He never admits he is wrong. If someone calls him out he usually blocks them. Since he now is rich he has a huge team he tried to teach how to do things but they fail because he fails to teach them right thus he blames his team. He aims for kids audience now thus leading to even shittier content and of course cashing in on trends.
      He went from professor to half ass kindergartner. From someone who was sorta acting like an adult to Ninja in his attitude. From facts, to shmacts.
      Basically the entire opposite of what we all were hoping for.
      If you want a scientific look at video games, well look elsewhere because you will not find it there anymore and do not complain or you will be silenced.

    Maybe the song just puts the entire planet in a localized time distorting field where time flows slower than the rest of the universe. Observers inside the field would see time flow faster outside of it, making it seem like the Sun and Moon are moving at an increased rate.
    This would be more in line with the kind of power the Ocarina of *Time* has and wouldn't cause a world ending event as the planet's rotation speed never actually changes.
    Think of the episode "Blink of an Eye" from Star Trek: Voyager, but the other way around (time flows faster on the planet in that episode).

    • @Shinichu

    • @hanburgundy4317

      Exactly what I thought, with the exception of the Star Trek episode as reference lol The Sun's Song manipulates time, as noted by Sharp and Flat on their tombstones; not the actual sun itself or the rotation of the earth. Timeshift stones create temporal fields that alter the flow of time and the Ocarina of Time is made of this material. Yes, you can learn and play this song with the Fairy Ocarina, as well, but the Composer Brothers wrote it with the use of the Ocarina of Time; they created a Door of Time through the use of song, with the exception that instead of you moving through time, time moves around you. The song also has the odd effect of freezing the undead in place (giving peaceful rest to the living dead) which indicates they are unable to harm you as they are frozen in time and you are not. Combine this with the songs to manipulate time taught to you by Zelda and by the scarecrow (among others from other titles) and it's pretty much cemented as time manipulation and not spinning the planet. Remember that veins of Timeshift Ore flow through the planet, so perhaps the notes of the song(s) not only use the Timeshift stone in the ocarina but affect the stones within the planet.

      F=ma the nearly instantaneous change by a factor of 30 would be enough to mess things up no matter what planet you're on. It's not the speed that kills people in a car crash, it's the sudden change going from whatever speed you were going to zero in less than a second. The car stops, but due to inertia your body is still moving and once you smack in to an object your acceleration at that moment will be very high resulting in sufficient force to break bones, cause internal bleeding, and/or rupture organs.

Of course if it's the latter, then it would also have to ghost him for the time period as someone standing still for that long would be bound to gather some attention...

      @nitsudrogers8087 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That's not how centripetal force works. Centripetal force isn't a fundamental force, it come from other forces. In the case of things sticking to the Earth's surface, gravity provides the centripetal force. Increasing the rotational speed of the Earth doesn't increase the centripetal force because gravity doesn't increase. However, increasing rotational speed DOES increase the requirements for centripetal force to keep things stuck to the surface. That's where "escape velocity" and "centrifugal force" come from; if you increase your rotational speed enough to the point that the centripetal force needed to keep you stuck to the surface is greater than the actual supplied centripetal force from gravity, then you get flung off the surface.
      Basically, increasing rotational velocity increases necessary centripetal force, not the centripetal force itself.
      Video is correct about this one.

    A lot of the stuff you said is true. However, that's not how the Sun's Song works. It actually really just a Pre Song of Double Time by time manipulation purpose. You can use it to summon the power of the Sun upon Redeads. But, the Biggoron Sword quest proves that the song as it's used outdoors in OoT is really just Pre Song of Double Time. Thus, debunks your theory, despite the fact everything you explained maybe true, except it has nothing to do with the Sun's Song cause that's not even how the Sun's Song was really meant to work. All the more reason why it was replaced with the Song of Double Time in MM and why Link already knows the Song of Double Time after remembering the Song of Time. Because canonically, that's the song he actually used instead of the Sun's Song in OoT for stuff like the Biggoron Sword quest. While the Sun's Song still exists, just repurposed as simply just a way to deal with those pesky Redeads.
    It's also possible that the Song of Passing is probably the definitive canon version of the Song of Double Time. Just like how the Hylian Shield and Master Sword have changed over the years.
    Anyways, the point is basically, the Biggoron Sword quest alone as it is debunks this whole mess. While the other stuff I mentioned supports the debunking of this madness even further. I'm now starting realize why the Sun's Song has never appeared in a new game (at least not in name anyways) since OoT. The devs likely realized how much of confusing logic defying convoluted mess that song was and replaced it with the Song of Double Time, then later, the Song of Passing.
    Long story short, this video was pointless. You only just proved why the song was replaced/changed with/into different songs in games that came after. The song was really just meant for passing by the time. Hence the name of it's definitive form, the Song of Passing.

      Wouldn't speeding up a planets rotation have some pretty bad consequences?

    • @PJCVita92
      @PJCVita92 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SOMEGUY7893 Speeding up a planet's rotation and fast forwarding through time are two different things. Just speeding up a planet's rotation won't effect time at all. Confusing the clocks and people maybe. But not actual time itself.
      It'd still technically be the same day. But just that everything will be screwed, possibly maybe even cause the Earth to be ruined or destroyed.
      However, just fast forwarding time is different. Everything will move like normal to everybody else, but to the one who's forwarding through time, it's like all that happened before the time of destination went by quickly.
      That hows the Sun's Song, Song of Double Time, and the Song of Passing are supposed to work. The likely reason why the Sun's Song didn't appear in MM and Song of Double Time in WW, when they were supposed to originally is simply because all three songs are actually the same song, but changed by the devs due to logical complications.
      Which explains why not even WW's version of the song in that of the Song of Passing ever returns either. While each version still has purpose gameplay wise in their game's respectively. I don't think any of three versions of the song are even canon anymore. The song really was only meant to make thing's less time consuming and more convenient for the player throughout the games anyways.
      Either that or it's safe to say that canonically, for the Hero of Time games, Link just used the Song of Time for all/any timey wimey purposes. While Link didn't really have any timey wimey song in the WW at all.
      I don't know, time travel really just screws things up just as bad as faster planet rotation but differently and without people realizing.

    What I don't understand is why people are attempting to apply real-world rules and principles to OoT. Even if Zelda WASN'T a fantasy series and they placed any kind of importance on realism, it's still a GAME in which they have to convey a huge amount of information that they can't necessarily represent 1:1. That's exactly what you're seeing, a representation.
    I don't think you're physically affecting everything around you in the way that this video explains, ie speeding up time immensely for 8 seconds. I don't think you change the movement of all the celestial bodies so that the cycle takes 8 seconds instead of the normal 4 minutes. I instead believe that you're transporting yourself forward in time through a number of possible means. The way I interpret it is that link is either stepping through/forward in time with the help of the OoT and the sun song, ie magical interdimensional travel. He's also the god damn hero of time, so I think any of your limitations and hangups on the logic of time travel can suck it.
    My other idea is that he more or less hibernates in a sort of time shelter. Think of his seven year sleep or the song of double time. Time may still pass for him and he may still age and learn things, but it's like he steps out from the world and into the sacred realm while it's happening. I think the important thing to remember is that it's a video game, AND it's from a time of much more limited technology. So not everything they wanted to convey to the player could be a perfect representation. Your imagination is needed to fully enjoy the experience as well as a suspension of disbelief. Oh also another beautiful thing about this being a video game: NONE of your real life rules need apply. Whether they be math or physics or logic. That can all suck a fat dick at the introduction of magic
    Tl;dr link doesn't actually speed the earth's rotation up 30x. That's fucking stupid, no offense. It's meant to represent the passage of time as you MAGICALLY step into the future. With magic. Not by abusing your hero of time powers to undo everything 💚

You say none of those limitations and rules apply, but why not? How do you know this? did you make the game? To hate on someone else opinion and call them stupid over something that can not be proved one way or another does nothing but make yourself look "fucking stupid". Honestly if you had presented it better and not tried to just be a dick and make it like your opinion is fact and everyone else is wrong/dumb, i would have agreed with you to a certain extent. I always attributed it to perception of time. the same amount of time passes within the game world, but Link's perception or perhaps his place in time is altered. It could also distort time around him so that he sees it pass quickly from his perspective, but to everyone else it's passing normally, anyone looking at him would probably think he's spacing out, & moving very slowly, but from his perspective, he would see everyone and everything move exceptionally fast.

    just assume that when its played, a barrier is surrounded around the planet which inside this barrier, earth spins normally due to magic or something, while it is being turned faster to adjust the placement of the sun and moon. so it basically creates an entire universe for earth that is only big enough to fit earth and that universe is being rotated 180 degrees, not effecting the plant itself, in which once it is finished turning, this universe disappears. so from earth, you can see out of this mini universe into the normal one, but is not affected by the normal one

Since time in the game doesn't pass while in towns and houses, and simply reloads the map at night or day time, there's a good chance Link just stands there for hours as they pass by in minutes. It would sort of be like a conscious hibernation for him. Seems a bit more reasonable to me than the song causing the planet's rotation to suddenly accelerate.

    easy way to fix that is if the ocarina were to create a temporary time stasis field on all things on the planet, that would stop the physics from affecting them, by the sudden acceleration and deceleration of the planet, so in other words, the planet and everything has the physics of before the rotation speed change, and the normal orbit speed physics and does not gain the physical effects of the sudden acceleration and deceleration of the planets rotation.
    alternatively, the ocarina would intensify the gravity of the planet itself to match the rotation speed and give it the gravity and rotation relationship that it would need to make everything still feel like its normal without the negative effects from the acceleration and deceleration of the planet, as you are basically counter balancing the effects and essentially normalizing everything again.
