Super Mario 3D World has a lot hidden within it. What the player can see is only a small fraction of what is within the game and how it actually works. In this video we'll be taking a look from the developer's seat at Super Mario 3D World at out of bounds content, off camera findings, game mechanics, and stage setups to give you a look at something you may have no seen before. @@arturplayz4505 yeah. Different story, but almost EVERY TIME, elitelupus makes a video on a Roblox game that I’ve played before. Is he tracking me?
There's always a chance it was going to be viewed at one point. Like the reflection in the rocket ship, maybe it was originally planned to be something you could explore so they made it really detailed, but that changed and they didn't bother updating the window because there's really no reason to if you can't see it.
This is in no way trying to downplay the work the devs put it, and maybe they did put that reflection in for a higher than necessary level of detail, but I'm thinking not because that's just extra work for no reason and no one wants to do that lol.
And I know I'm talking about the window here but that applies to anything like that. Why is the random thing here? It was gonna do something but that changed and it wasn't worth changing or was forgotten about. From what I've seen, the start of development and the finished product are usually nothing alike.
Either way it's really fun to explore stuff like this, wasn't trying to be all 'uhm actually', I just think it's interesting to think, say, what did they plan on the rocket doing if that's the reason the windows so detailed, what was the level originally gonna look like if there's a random whatever over there, etc?
Am I the only one who thinks that SwankyBox making the models really wide for a second is hilarious?

I would have never thought the cloud platforms in stage 2 would cycle around through the wall. I would expect them to just teleport to the bottom. That's probably the coolest thing I saw in this video
This same feature is in mario oddessy as well. It can be found in a bonus level (in luncheon i think) but theyre regular platforms not clouds 😊

It's cool that the clear pipe segments get connected dynamically at runtime like that! An example of programmers spending time, so that level designers can iterate more easily.
I love that you showcase all of the hard work that goes into making a game work so seamlessly!
When the game came out, Miyamoto said that clear pipes were something he always wanted to do in Mario games but the technology never caught up to that idea. I wonder if that auto-connecting thing is what he meant.

I basically binge your entire channel when I'm having a rough time. This time of the year is particularly hard for me, so I frequent your channel often. I'm happy that Horrorscoped really took off, and I'm also excited for Zardy's Maze 2, but I do miss the uploads to the Swankybox channel.

That’s so cool! I never noticed that there were hidden things and details around these areas, especially invisible walls, before when playing the game! Awesome!
the fact the player falls through everything makes sense - the devs only put collision where they need it, so there's a huge number of surfaces that are cut out when calculating physics, which could save a lot of time in massive areas

Mann, he abandoned this channel for horrorscope. Which is a channel that practically does horror games. Mostly mascot horror. I guess all good things must come to an end, eventually.

It's really cool seeing the different game design practices that are used for Nintendo games. Especially as someone (like myself) who is working towards being a game designer.
Perhaps we could work together.?
I can only assume the left behind things like the water zone and overly large death zones are the result of constant level redesign and tweaking and those things just remain from either the player eventually not being able to go near them or plain old developer crunch preventing enough clean up time.
even without crunch there's no real reason to clean up most of the time
This game was so well made it’s actually insane, they definitely loved making this game, I can’t wait to get more Mario games like this

I remember finding the water away from the level near the checkpoint in the first level as a kid
This is awesome! I never knew there was so much detail in the levels and worlds.
You can escape the death planes on some levels us you get enough speed and height to jump over them. Pretty investing stuff ahaha
The water zone at 6:00 was also one of the first "glitches" I showed off in this game ahaha can't believe that was so many years ago
I really want to see a full series of this, can't wait for world 2 if you do so

This was a super interesting video! One question I have is in the switch port, do you know if the invisible water in super bell hill was removed? I know invisible walls were added to prevent a skip in the final boss level, so it would make sense if more small changes that wouldn’t be seen by most players were made such as that water being removed.

a cool and game breaking trick in mount bean pull if you go to like almost the top then use the cat or leaf power up and for the cat power up you wanna use the dive to like a slight left not facing you to the side it mostly works to the left it may take some times because you may die.For the leaf you wanna use its float ability and and if you keep holding it while going down you just start breaking the game.I used to play this game when i was a kid so when i was done with it i would try see if i could break the system

17:48 and 18:43 what happens if you put the mystery box inside where it warps you to?
Does it just act as a teleporter, or will it actually recurse back out when you leave, so like if you enter 3 times then you have to exit 3 times to leave? (storing each position the player entered from separately)
though if when leaving you just teleport to the entrance, then you probably can't move the box inside the room and be able to leave at the same time : |
