I love that Connor's voice at the end was very creepy but in his head he was just walking around Princess Peach's castle

Their vastly different experience being abducted reminds me of the SNL sketches of the Close Encounter Support group with Kate McKinnon.

It’s like we are all linked to a cloud. Also, there is a bit of a theory that some UFO’s are Mushrooms. It sounds crazy, but Betty’s dress could have had spores on it…

Another good one is some UFO's are time travellers - whether that implies they're from Earth or not. Anyway I doubt the UFO phenomenon can be boiled down to a single explanation regardless.

Also with that cloud theory, definitely agree, sounds like the collective subconscious. Makes me consider regressive hypnosis as possibly tapping into memories from a past life, or perhaps an alternate timeline. That would explain the confusion of whether they are 'real', although it might be hard to confirm they were experienced in this specific lifetime, they are clearly 'real' in some other sense.

Because my sister and I were born in Reno NV, my mom would tell us she found us on the side of the highway. There was a crashed spaceship. A female alien, who was the mother of my sister and I, asked my mom to take care of us because the government was coming. I can remember my mom telling me this story when I was like 8 or 9. I guess it was supposed to be some funny story, but I always felt different from the other kids. Even now, I can still see in my head my mom finding us on the side of the road. My mom also used to joke that my dad worked at Area 51. Good times. I’m loving to podcast. I hope Billy makes his debut soon. Y’all are the best!

Coming from a mystical point of view, I think what is not currently understood about our mind, is that our mind is anchored in our brain but is free to roam in imaginal/spiritual/astral landscapes and can encounter things that are not of us. This is why a discipline of the mind is foundational to most mystical and magical traditions. So the hypo-abuction event was a real and potent event, just not a physical event. Really enjoying the series.

Okay … I am still working my way through all of your podcasts because I can’t bear to watch the finale you just posted until I have seen them all. I’m also working my way through all the fantastic stuff on patreon. Head spinning.
Soooo, I’ve been very afraid to watch anything alien related … for a reason. For a while, I was obsessed and read all of Whitley’s books. Now I find I get great anxiety even thinking about aliens, yet a part of me is still, of course, extremely curious. I will try to make this short, many years ago I traveled across time zones with my husband and I had a flip phone and the morning after our arrival to vacation I was first up, made coffee, brought it to my husband who was still in bed and said you want to hear something really weird. But before I could explain that my weird thing was that my phone had automatically adjusted the time to the new time zone he looked at me very seriously and said “no, do you want to hear something really weird?” He said that in the middle of the night I sat straight up in bed and said “Oh no, not again …” and then I proceeded to speak in nothing but blips and bleeps. Like I was a modem. It totally freaked him out and he just sat there watching and listening to me. He did not wake me up and I can’t remember how long he said it went on. I have absolutely no memory of this. The following morning I got up and looked in the bathroom mirror and there were four long bruises down one cheek like they were made by fingers. I have a picture somewhere. Ever since then I’ve been too afraid to do hypnosis because to me ignorance is bliss. After everything you were saying on this podcast I’m really glad I did not do hypnosis because I don’t think it can be trusted. Also, a few years ago friends were visiting and around 1am we all saw a glowing neon orange tic-tac shaped vehicle cruise silently by the screened-in lanai we were standing on - it was about fifty yards away at eye level and my house is on stilts (I live on a bridgeless barrier island) so we were about 16 feet up. It cruised silently by and then just disappeared in an instant. It was there for about 7 seconds moving south to north silently and then just blipped out. Probably about 30’ long and maybe 10‘ diameter. We were three couples so six adults in their 50’s all saw it. I did report it to Mufon. You guys are making me face my fears … my new mantra is “be curious, not afraid”. Easier said than done. ✌

Love this episode! I'm already familiar with the Hills' case, but you've given all of us a lot more to think about with your experiences/experiments in hypnosis and those results. There are certainly some very substantial, solid facts that lend credence to the Hills' veracity, and I'm not ready to dismiss their experiences as false memories, etc. One thing though - if I had been through all of that trauma, I **would not** keep that dress - it would be gone/destroyed!! I wouldn't want anything around to remind me of what I'd been through! That she decided to keep it/preserve it really seems odd!!

Great episode, guys! While listening toward the end of the pod, and thinking about the power of hypnosis, I started to wonder if the producers of the Netflix series 1899 are fans of the Betty and Barney Hill story. It's scary to think about how easily entire worlds and experiences can be created in our brains.

So I read that first sample report. A couple of things: it is actually less conclusive than it sounds. Basically, there is additional material from an outside source. But, the materials found aren’t exactly out of the norm (many sources possible). The big problem I have with it is it is clear the researcher has a relationship with Betty Hill and the speculations sections, thanks/notes sections etc suggest the researcher is biased. I would liked to have seen a more independent analysis. I find it fascinating, and the possibilities interesting, I find the material evidence (the fact any exists *and* has been offered for analysis indicates some genuine foundations), but that document and analysis wouldn’t be my first choice for such an important job.

Well, the same thing happened in the 80’s with sexual assaults that therapist were supposedly helping patients retrieve sexual assault repressed memories, and it became a huge problem because all this sexual assault cases were coming out at the same time.. so there were well meaning therapist that were getting false memories from patients even children.

Something that makes me lean towards the government's involvement in the Hill case is not only the CIA friend but also how Barney was treated worse. It's possible the aliens were nicer to Betty because she was female. BUT considering the time this happened and that they were involved in the civil rights movement makes me lean more towards human involvement. That's not to say that I don't believe that abductions don't happen etc just that to me this case has always felt like some type of government cover up to me.

Fan-freaking-tastic episode! I had a wild experience with a past life regression when I was in my baby 20’s. I've been living in New England all my life and me and my dad would go camping in the white mountains all the time. We regularly would see lights in the sky moving unpredictably, didnt think much of it after the first few times. The last time we went we found a really odd clearing in the woods with bones, some bones on a rock in the center of the clearing, used burnt twine. I still have videos of that trip on my phone (of the clearing and bones and twine/"burn pile") if you're interested.

That lab report on the dress is fascinating. Much of it was over my head, but the parts of it I did understand were perplexing. Water and non-water soluble protein. OK, that's strange but not super weird. High ACID protein? That's fucking weird. Especially when it is broken down into long alkaline chains. Protein is notoriously low alkaline so long alkaline chains fits, except high acid is literally the opposite of alkaline. I'll have to read it and digest it a little more to wrap my brain around how long alkaline chains turn into high acid protein.
The smell, feeling grimey, then the pink powder that blew away but stained acetate, which was pretty hard to stain- sounds like a fungus. The powder may have been spores.
Fungi have protein, but are still low acid so while that hypothesis certainly answers some questions, it doesn't resolve the high acid protein. WTF protein is high acid? I got nothing. Fungi would cause staining and an increase in particulate matter in the affected areas as the mycelium grew, create a powder, a smell, discolorarion of dye and fiber, and has protein... just not high acid protein. One of those things is not like the others.

My assumption about the alien abduction joke is that it came from Strieber's Communion. I think, for as widely known as the Hills' case has been, the sexually intrusive aspects aren't as prominently foregrounded as they are in Strieber's account, despite the similarities.
I've recently tended to interpret the more human-like aspects of the appearances of the "aliens" here as representing an earlier stage of the development of the modern UFO mythos in a parapolitical capacity. There's enough data about the Hills' political activity/prominence -- in addition to their bizarre closeness with various air force personnel -- to make the case that what the Hills experienced was a form of counter-insurgency. Maybe the involved technology was just a little less sophisticated; or the hallucinogenic drugs were less effective; or the involved agencies were still feeling out how they wanted to visually code what would come to be the predominant ET type; or all three!
In that regard, you could also understand the "star map" as being another piece contributing to the crafting of the extraterrestrial narrative. Jacques Vallée has a good critical analysis of the map in Messengers of Deception where he points out how all of the details indicate the map being placed there for Betty to see, rather than for it to be used by the "aliens."

Your friend who was hypnotized was seeing elementals (floating, no bones, etc.) His mind didn't know what he was supposed to see so elementals moved in to form images for him in his mind. Elementals in this case being other consciousness, elementals are intelligent beings who have never incarnated as a human.

Watching this for the first time, hearing the whole hypnosis dream state thing is making me feel sick. Because hearing Connor say, "it's like remembering a dream well, which, you never remember a dream well" is weird to me. My dreams, since I was a child, have always been so insanely vivid, most nights while I'm dtraming I assume I AM awake. I'll be doing weird dream things of course, but I could tell you in the most perfect detail, every moment of my dreams. I have a drram map of the layout and timeliness my dreams are happening, and I'll continue dreams from years and years ago as if I was JUST there. Now I don't think I'd ever want to do any form or regression or hypnosis D:

Everyone is a good candidate for hypnosis. Hypnosis is actually a normal state and we go in and out naturally every day. Some go deeper than others but it's just your brain in a theta state. You're just opening a door to your subconscious. You're completely aware of what's going on.

Uhhh, hypnosis. I would like to try it, BUT to learn about my past lives - if possible - because I am just so curious and I have had a couple of experiences with knowledge that I have no idea where it came from regarding places I have never been in and cultures I am not part of. So… I want to know.
If I have ever been abducted, I don’t want to know either. But my mom did see an UFO that she describes exactly like the one in the photo. This was in the 90s, 1998 probably, in Mexico City. In the middle of traffic so many people saw it. I don’t think it was in the news or something because she said that many people didn’t seem to realise it was there, a few people in other cars around her did see it and they were pointing and she got to talk with others about it but in passing. And without a cellphone with a camera back then there is no proof, today is just a story she tells now and then, but I remember her coming home and telling us about it right away. She was with two other women in the car and all of them say the same story.
