Death Mountain? More like Baby Mountain for Babies.
For death babies 😆
I always grind my attack, life and magic up before I go into death mountain. Love this game and death mountain is the best!
I used to as well but I know a lot more about the game and can get through most of it a very low levels.
of course! i will NEVER forget that maze. It's like SMB 8-4 castle it's impossible to forget.
go right no maze, never wuda thought to make um disappear tho . now do no damage w/o the candle.;0)
Makes a video about not taking any damage, dies multiple times!
My first thought too, but I believe this is actually a breakdown of his previous no damage zelda ii run, which is a good watch.
When I played this as a child I always just leveled up my stats to 4-5 before going to death mountain. Made it quite easy and relaxing. Always got my stats to 8 before beating any palace anyway, to get 6 extra lives for the journey to the grand palace, because then you could just bruteforce through it, and I remember playing the entire day a couple of times and beating it without saving or ever getting the game over screen.
that was exactly my strategy too. 5x attack before putting the crystal on palace 1
Death Mountain has lived up to its name so many times when I played this. I was able to get the hammer and progress thanks to your explanation
Zelda 2 speedrunner here, always fun to watch this kind of stuff. Always nice to help those who struggle with it.
Ah someone that loves zelda 2 as much as I do. Or atleast someone that loves it. Just discovered the channel. Keep up the badass work broski.
Zelda 2 maybe my all time favorite and I have played it so many ways. Here is a no hit full playthrough Zelda ll Flawless NES Playthrough [ No Hit / Damage / Death ]

Death Mountain should be called Bucket Mountain because it sucks
This is such a smart and well thought out answer and I would like to award you with all the points. You win!
Before I started speed running it, the Red Dairas were my kryptonite. Now its bats and bots,
Bots are the worst. Treat all Z2 bots like all spam bots-zero trust and remove on sight.
The way they are programmed make them a nightmare!
So we're not gonna talk about all those p bags your ignoring. I feel so unsatisfied. Blatant p bag neglect😂
I feel great shame😆 I should know better no P-bag left behind
I've fought Red Daira sometimes throwing a triple axe. I remember once a Red Daira threw 4 axes. That was insane. But I think it's a glitch or something because the 4 axes happened just once.
The way the code works for the Red Diara axes is they throw and axe about ever second but have a 1 in 4 chance to throw one on a half second timing. This is likely to happen only once but I have seen 2 and 3 not sure I have even seen 4 but I’m sure it is possible. Just imagine rolling a 4 sided die and herring the same number 4 times in a row. Not likely but possible
glad to see more people giving some lov to this amazing game
Goriyas also utilize the same movement structure as the Dairas by the way.
Yes with the added different boomerang throws that make them in my opinion harder to defeat consistently without damage. That’s why I leveled to attack 5 in P1 in my damageless playthrough.
Great video walkthrough! But I died inside when you left the P bag(s) behind 😬😬 Lol
😆 This video was just for the explanation. I would never leave a P-bag behind in a really playthrough!
@@slackanater6639 😂, right? I loved all the little tricks you taught!
I finish this game a long time ago thanks for the memory
Your welcome! Still one of it not my favorite game of all time. I know this version of Zelda was not universally loved but I sure loved it.
So the strategy is to memorize all the locations of all the enemies, and all their possible movements, and to perfectly execute battle or evasion on every one....
Essentially yes for a no damage play through but it not as crazy as it may seem. Location of enemies is always the same and there movement is for the most part simple. There are for sure easier ways to play through but this is how I did my no hit play through.
Thanks to your advice, I can easily win this game and subscribe.
Your welcome
Super detailed breakdown as usual. Great video.
Thank you! I’m having fun making these so I’m glad people like them.
No problem. Really enjoyed the JAWS video too. Even though ive completed alot of these games and make tutorials myself, these breakdowns are extremely entertaining and your presentation, style is great. Keep KILLIN THAT SHIT !!@@slackanater6639
@@slackanater6639I grew up on NES (had Atari 2600 first). I was 10 when Zelda 2 came out, quite possibly my favorite NES game (at least top 5). No wussy butt save states. Stop crying and get good, or go play dolls with your sister.
Your health & magic stats should be a couple higher (attack could have been lower), plus you didn't grab the heart container south of Parapa (the rapper) palace. You also didn't have the shield spell.
I would ALWAYS run through Death Mountain a couple (3 - 4) times after the first palace, and before defeating the 2nd palace. Was great for early game grinding as well as getting better at fighting & dodging (without your cheese). I usually wouldn't have to really grind that much the rest of the game.
For those of you who haven't figured it out yet (don't know if you have mentioned it) you shouldn't place any of the crystals into the palaces until you have only the most expensive 6 levels (stats) left to raise. This saves SO MUCH GRINDING at the end.
There is also an end of game crystal placement (last stat / most expensive) trick where if you pause at the very second the exp starts rising, save & quit, then start a new game, you start the new game with 8000 / 9000 xp.
P.S. I would grab down thrust inbetween the 1st & 2nd Death Mountain run through.
P.P.S. There is a glitch that can be done while shutting off the NES without holding the reset button in that can cause your attack (possibly other) stats to become letters. It is some kind of over flow glitch that makes you insanely powerful. Like 1 shotting the palace bosses powerful. Doesn't one shot shadow Link though.
I always went to get down stab after making it through. Makes the hammer cave almost too easy. Down stabbing dairas for the win. 💪🏽 Even as a kid, I never considered this game hard until valley of death and the great palace.
This was the way to do it. Always get the Down Thrust before Death Mountain.
i always played death mountain until my skills were....well...6 across each one, then went forward. The trick of in and out of the room reminds me of Level 1 in the original zelda with the door
Yup the old in and out😁
I noticed you also had your attack stat at level 4 to help with killing some of the enemies in 1 shot or at least faster.
Yeah I would always recommend leveling your attack first. Maybe I should make a video on leveling. I know some neat tips and tricks for that.
Get the downward stab before the hammer !
Very useful for casual players to do that.
8:47: you don't need to find the timing. There's a range at which he doesn't try to swing at you. Just run straight in from beyond that distance and duck-stab (he'll whiff right in front of your ankles), then run away far enough that he stops swinging. Then at your leisure, repeat the process
"the beam sword" yeah........................ sadly its the size of a knife so its the beam knife
Thanks and happy new year you distinguished gentleman
Awesome work. Do you have any pointers on dealing with the bird soldiers in the final palace?
I do! Maybe I can make a video on getting through GP!
if you 'climb up' 4 or 5 blocks (about their jump height) and stay in the breakable wall area and just stab them as they jump towards you until they're destroyed. In other open areas, just jump and downstab over them, and run if you don't want to fight them.
As they jump over you, Up jump stab into the under side of their shields.
Ever play Faxanado? i put so many hrs as a kid into that.
Faxanadu was a huge childhood favorite of mine. I can still remember the day we got it. I have learned the speedrun and for a few years was very competitive. I no longer speedrun the game but I still play through it from time to time. I also have a no hit playthrough Faxanadu NES Damageless Playthrough!

@@slackanater6639 thanks for the link !
You are a genius
Wow! My stats are Attack-4, Magic -3, and Life-4 and I still having trouble. You made it look easy. 😂😂
The stats here are a bit weird as I’m just explaining my approach to the rooms. I’m not even picking up P-bags because it’s just a demonstration. My stats normally depend on the route whether it be casual, speed, or even a full no hit playthrough
@@slackanater6639 I just beaten Death Mountain.Thank you so much 😊
I'm glad it was helpful! Let me know if there is any other spots you would like a video on?
@@cassandrabrooks5185
so underrated
I think I need to go and look at the old game again, isn't there a down thrust stab you can use for enemies?
Yes. You get it in the same town you get the fairy spell in, Mido. There is a church in the town with a door on the top ledge. Get onto it with the jump spell and you'll learn the ability.
6:22 I got red diarrhea after eating beets, scared the hell out of me 😅
That’s does sound terrifying 🤣
good thg there not blue dia that wud b vicious
u can use reflect to block but cant getit till way later
U da man, Slack! ✌️💜
Now do it without candle
Just a week or so ago I was challenged to get the hammer without candle or spells and at life 1 attack 1. It was a nightmare but I did eventually get it.
meh, Im just going to keep doing it the hard way. It's a lot easier. 😁
Could you beat Ninja Gaiden 1 from the SNES trilogy without taking damage? That is an official release after all, not a romhack played on Mastersystem or whatever.
This one? Ninja Gaiden First Ever! 100% Flawless NES Playthrough [ No Hit / Damage / Death ]
th-cam.com/video/cJtmZpRTVO8/w-d-xo.html
No the SNES version. From the Trilogy cart.
Not sure never played it?
So the difference then would be that you'd have to get all those button hits in with a SNES controller
with my understanding of the snes controller it should be possible. Now I don't know how well the game was ported. sometimes when a game is ported to another console the rom(gamecode) is not exactly the same and the game run differently. So somethings like mashing my not work the same. I would guess that it is possible but can't not se sure without trying it.

Not since the first time. No...
😂 your not the only one
Why are you at Death Mt. without Shield magic??
In my no damage playthrough. I did not take the time to collect the thing I wasn’t going to use like the shield spell life spell or life containers
Shield is actually optional in this game. The following spells are optional: Shield, Life, Fire, Spell.
You can beat the whole game without taking damage...
I did yes and it was stupid hard th-cam.com/video/ow-1vznCGNw/w-d-xo.html
Only if you're a sadist. No-hit runs are not my forte.
Great game
It maybe my all time favorite
I call it not as impressive as your Metroid kraid fight.
That would make the mother brain fight sooooo much more impressive the 🤔
Even I have made it through death mountain with no damage. Can't be that impressive.
It is not especially compared to the mother brain hallway! I would say more equal to Kraid fight strat @@jodosh
OMG its not that hard until death mountain do I even get a challenge..plus oh course grinding
What a nice video, I am looking for a good place to download this game, can you help me out please🙏.
He s not collecting treasure bags where you can level up and refill your heart power. Take the damages but not all damages. Maybe level up first
This was just for the explanation video. If you would like to see the full playthrough it is here th-cam.com/video/ow-1vznCGNw/w-d-xo.html
I'm a huge Zelda fan. The Legend of Zelda for the NES is what got me into video games. But then came The Adventure of Link. That game is just as bad as E.T. for the Atari 2600. But then Nintendo redeemed themselves with A Link to the Past and every game thereafter. But The Adventure of Link I don't even consider a canon game. I consider the shitty Zelda games that were on the Philips CD-I more canon than The Adventure of Link.
It’s not even that hard. I have been playing Zelda 2 since it came out. I did a full play through last night on the MiSTer fpga NES core and made it through death mountain without taking damage. Meet bagu, cross the bridge town and once I’m in death mountain I just head east and avoid elevators .I beat the game when I was a little kid in the late 80’s and it’s still one of my favorite games today. I’ve played through so many romhacks and randomizer levels it’s kind of ridiculous. Amidas Curse, and Resurrection of Ganon are noteworthy. Winter solstice is also great
You are correct it’s not really that hard but many people struggled there. If you are looking for a real challenge try playing the full game no damage. th-cam.com/video/ow-1vznCGNw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=UXDL31SU9rjoienz
Says no damage, no hits.
Gets hit, damaged and is using save states.

Palace 2 is harder than death mountain imo
