This is irrefutable evidence that we are living in the golden age of metal youtubers these days, in the past 2-3 years we have seen rising personalities such as Keyan, Joao Medeiros, Robin Leneutre, Nik Nokturnal, Andrew Baena and so much more who put countless effort into their covers and are also very responsive to their fans and extremely generous with their knowledge, I don't think there would be a better time to be alive without these musicians. Good on ya cob!

Tip: 1.) Change a track's "Type" to Audio (context menu for the track in the Playlist view). It will link that track with a mixer channel you choose, automatically syncing name, color etc. And of course play back the audio via that channel. 2.) Then, drop your amp sim plugin on the mixer channel's inserts. 3.) Choose the interface input above the FX inserts for your guitar. 4.) To the left of that, toggle the icon to PRE-FX Recording. This way, you will record your DI signal only (while hearing your amp sim), so you can "reamp" at any time by changing the amp sim. No need to record a second dry signal each time.

This is forreal the most helpful FL studio tip i've read in a long time. I've been trying to link tracks in the playlist to mixer tracks for longer than i'd like to admit and could not figure it out for the life of me. And interestingly enough i just figured out the PRE-FX recording thing on my own a few hours ago. I feel like i just level'd up my workflow tenfold just today. Keyan, you're a G for this one. And zendakk, thanks for the protip.

Fun Tip if people aren't fond of Kontakt...
You can record a few velocities of each piece of the kit, save each hit as its own sample then load them into FL's MPC. MPC is VERY overlooked as a Sample playback engine. It allows for multiple velocity playback and it is actually very easy to create your own rhythms/beats in the Piano Roll since all the kit pieces are clearly named and visually assigned. No more hunting to find out that a Rim Shot is a C#0 and the same Rim Shot with a slightly different attack is an F#7. Haha.
You can mix and match just about anything you want into MPC as well. You could take the Toms from an EzDrummer library, the cymbals from GGD and the drums from Slate and make your own kits at will...save them as templates and go about your business of making bad a$$ music.

I’d love to see you continue this as a series. I also use FL Studio to record metal because who doesn’t love lifetime free updates? Also does any other DAW have such a good built in synth library? I much prefer the XL mixer view where you can see the plugins on each channel. It might be easier for viewers to see the mixer in future videos if you use the larger mixer view. It would be great to see you mix and master metal in FL.

Pro tip- do all that drum routing to the mixer and then save it as a FL template. Fl templates are nice. Save as- template. That way you only have to it once. In fact i have a template with the exact same stuff Keyan uses, modern massive drums pre-routed to mixer, nolly nueral, and djinn bass routed as well. For writing i find this super helpful. Every session i load up with those plugins already mapped. Its easy enough to switch kontact instrumentals if im not doing a metal song.

Great job sir! I subscribed as soon as I saw the word Metal! This is the perfect example of why FL is a very complete and powerful multi-genre DAW! All it takes is time and imagination with ANY DAW! So many people instantly discredit FL Studio simply because of...okay...I'll be nice....SONIC STEREOTYPE PROFILING...how's that! Mr. Keyan even got props from Image-Line themselves! They were probably like..."Finally, someone gets that we're a DIGITAL AUDIO WORKSTATION!" I personally remember purchasing Fruity Loops when it first came out on CD. Got home...opened the box...inserted it in my briefcase-sized Fujitsu laptop thinking I was gonna be the next Quincy Jones, and it all looked like prehistoric hieroglyphics. I left it alone. I'm much older now. A week ago I went to FL's website. "The fastest way from your brain to your speakers." I got the 21 Producers Edition. All the tools are there....and I get it! Peace and Love!

Thanks dude! Been recording metal in FL for a while and pretty much doing what you do. FL is amazing for beatmaking and creating songs based on midi but after years of using it and making guitar based music, I still don't think that it's a very good DAW for metal. Just the time you have to spend to name and colour playlist tracks, then mixer tracks separately and then sending each recording to the mixer is just too much. All other DAWs do all that automatically and you only have to do it once. It's just very easy to lose the plot when you have loads of recordings and you have to send every single one of them to the mixer. In my opinion, the playlist track should relate to the mixer track like all other DAWs. Anyway, still awesome DAW for sound processing and beatmaking.

Excellent tips. Thank you for sharing. I want make a note for those using a drumkit plugin outside of Kontakt such as ML Drums Free from ML Sound Labs: when mapping the connections on the Processing tab of the settings, you'll notice that there is an output connection. I map this output to a separate channel than the Master (null) and route my various instruments (kick, snare, cymbals) just as shown here, but I remove all routings on the output channel so that it is no longer audible. This enables me to isolate the kick or snare or any of the other channels if I need to.

for coloring you can just press ''control'' and drag to select multiple adjacent channels , then click right on any channel then ''change clolor'' , now select any color and it will be applied to all the channels you just selected . (excuse my bad english)

go get yourself a razer mamba mouse 2 and assign the 2 left thumb buttons on the mouse, to your Right side Shift and Control buttons on the keyboard.... Right shift key allows you to slice audio in the playlist, and right control key allows you to lasso grab in the playlist.... its the most natural feeling and handy shortcut ive ever came up with (esp considering half the time i got a guitar in my lap and my left hand is usually holding it, so the other hand and being botherthed with pressing the keyboard just to make a quick edit can be a PITA) thank me later if you ever get to giving it a try. You wont go back to a standard mouse ever once you do.

If you don't mind, can I ask: when recording guitars this way, how do you manage latency? On guitar or any audio tracks that you have in the mixer. There should be a tab on it where it says resample. Change that to auto or stretch. Should fix it. Can also tune shit down without it automatically slowing it down in tempo this way as well. Hope this helps.
