A “white” elephant in northeast Thailand prepares to be presented to the country’s new King Maha Vajiralongkorn after his coronation on May 4, 2019. Thai law states all specially classified “white” elephants belong to the king.

Inspite kf the show of "pampering", the fact that the handler is holding a hook to make it obey and he rides the elephant too is a sign of disrespect to the elephant and very abusive method. The bull hook is used to hit the elephants most sensitive parts, to make it obey. Look at that chain around his foot, and the elephant's swinging his head repeatedly is a sign of distress. Elephants deserve a life of freedom and respect. It is a shame that the royal family use elephants for fanfare, that Thailand has no animal welfare law. The country home to the world's richest monarch , and buddhist majority tolerates animal abuse. Stop riding elephants and using them at circus and painting shows!!!
